Sermonette for Sabbath Services, August 2, 2014 at Sabang Congregation, Sabang, Baybay City, Leyte

Introduction
When I was still studying in high school, specifically, fourth year, in the mid of the school year, our
unfinished school stage was at last continued to its original layout and structure. We were glad since we will
be the first batch of graduates who will be using first the newly constructed stage then. We were excited as
well. We were even part of the construction since we helped in gathering gravel and sand to be used in the
construction.
Graduation is fast approaching and our thoughts are still lingering to the idea that we will be using
the newly constructed stage. But to our disappointment, the newly constructed stage is not safe to be used.
The stage was not properly constructed due to the mistake of the engineer. There are several mistakes
were seen:
1. The foundation in weak, and the engineer did not see it first
2. The lay-out. The roofing is more weightier than the posts
3. The engineer did not listen to the advice of some people.
At present, the stage completely bowed down, leaving as an eye sore of the institution. And that
school is where I am working right now.

Body
As a Christian, as members, associates of this church, there are some points in the story or the
situation wherein we can get. As aiming, and waiting for our savior Jesus Christ we are also building
something for Him. We are building not a stage of course but we are actually preparing for a temple for
Him.
1 Cor. 6:19 – Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you,
whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Brethren, we ourselves are our engineers, building the temple of God which is in us. The question is
How, how are going to prepare a temple which is not easily trampled down?
There are three things in the story wherein we can get:

1. Select a good foundation. Matthew 7:24-25. 24. Therefore whoever hears these saying of
Mine, and does them, I liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 “And the
rain descended, the flood came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall,
for it was founded on the rock. (The Rock was Jesus Christ 1 Cor 10:4)
2. Make a proper lay-out and realized them. A lay-out is a plan, when we plan we already look on
different possibilities, what will happen if I’m going to do this or to do that. Meaning we should
and must know already what are dos and don’ts as a Christian. Christ already remind us that we
should always keep our body as a temple as clean as possible.
Romans 12:1-2. I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present
your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And
do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you
may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
3. Be open to advice. As human as we are we sometimes act as we already know all, we sometimes
disregard advice from our parents, brothers and sisters, friends.
Proverbs 12: 15 the way of the fool is right in his own eyes, but he who heeds
counsel/advise is wise.
Proverbs 3:7, 13,(7) Do not be wise in your own eyes,..because (13) happy is the man who
finds wisdom
Sum up and Review
Conclusion

I Cor 3:11-17
11 For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ
12 Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw,
13 Each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire;
and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is
14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.
15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire.
16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
17 If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which
temple you are.
