Title The Positive Effects of Relocating the Capital City of Indonesia

The idea of relocating the capital city of Indonesia has been

emerged since the era of President Soekarno, and this idea has never
become the realization by the government. However, in the era of
President Joko Widodo, this idea is reemerged, and it is planned to be
implemented soon. The idea of relocating the capital city that has been
planned to be implemented as soon as possible is due to the condition of
Jakarta which is no longer potential to become the capital city of the
Thesis Republic of Indonesia. Relocating the capital city is unarguably very
prominent, considering the positive effects which will be felt by all the
citizens of Indonesia.
The first positive impact of relocating the capital city of Indonesia
is the improvement of infrastructure in other regions of Indonesia besides
Java. As everyone knows, the establishment of infrastructure only occurs
Argument 1 in Java while in other regions the infrastructure level is still poor.
Nevertheless, when the capital city is relocated to the new area, the
government will build infrastructure needed there, since one of the
requirements to relocate the capital city is adequate infrastructure. As a
result of relocating the capital city into the new one, other regions will be
positively effected in terms of infrastructure sustainability.
Another beneficial effect of relocating Indonesia’s capital city
away from Jakarta is to help the country's economic development become
more Indonesia-centric. For a long time, Jakarta has been carrying the
burden of being the center of Indonesian government services as well as
the pivot for businesses. Many people believe that Indonesia's economic
Argument 2 growth has become too focused on the island of Java, especially Jakarta.
Therefore, the plan of moving the capital city from Jakarta, which is
known as economically dominant city, to the submissive city may
simultaneously boost Indonesia’s economic development to the city and
its surroundings, and it also may aid to tone down the Java-centric image
of Indonesia so that the economic growth would spread out evenly across
the country.
The last advantage of relocating the capital city of Indonesia is
that it would become a solution for the rapid urbanization problem. Rapid
urbanization in the megacity of Jakarta has been the cause of a wide
Argument 3 range of urban problems for a few decades. The problem occurs because
many people coming from rural areas consider that Jakarta, the
congestion-riddled city which suffers from seasonal floods, is the only
place that provides their needs for jobs, schools, medical, and
entertainments. As long as Jakarta remains the primary growth machine
of the nation, the economic growth will only keep corresponding to rapid
urbanization in Jakarta. Otherwise, if the plan of relocating the capital
city of Indonesia will be realized, the infrastructure development and
economic growth will be sustainable across the country, so the reduced
number of population living in the peripheral areas of Java island will be
reflected in the long run.
Overall, planning the relocation of the capital city of Indonesia
may become the right solution to the ongoing problems faced by
Indonesia. Additionally, this idea may also give positive effects as
mentioned above. However, relocating the capital city is not simple as
Recommendation there are multiple aspects to consider, such as the geopolitical factor, the
readiness of infrastructure and financial support. In regard to this
immense plan, the government should arrange the strategies and prepare
everything in detail. Thus, the ideal capital city which reflects Indonesia’s
identity will be established successfully.
