Positive Influence of Technology to Architecture Education

Architecture is a focus of science in which deepens about the design and

make a building and make it happen and do not forget to care about the
environment around development. The architect should be equipped with
knowledge of many branches of study and varied kinds of learning, for it is by his
judgement that all work done by the other arts is put to test. This knowledge is the
child of practice and theory. Practice is the continuous and refular exercise of
employment where manual work is done with ani necessary material according to
the design of a drawing. Theory, on the other hand, is the ability to demonstrate
and explain the productions od dexterity on the principles of proportion
(Vitruvius, 1914, Chapter 1)

As the times progressed, the development of the world in terms of

development brought a strong influence on developments in various fields, such
as architecture. Changes in the era of demanding architects more important in
improving the progress of development in the country. At the same time, the
architect's role is not just to build a solid standing building but to make how one
building can stand and reflect an identity. Similarly in Kendari, the built MTQ
monument is the identity of the city of Kendari. This demand needs to be balanced
with a resource that can support architectural performance. Resources that can be
used as well as the use of technology in the science of architecture. Combining
these different fields of science and the emergence of new building materials and
technology, an architect will be able to focus from the technical aspects of the
building to the aesthetics.

Related to technology, computers in the world of design and architecture

have been started since the computer was invented. This form of engagement is
certainly not the same as what we think today. the latest generation of computers
produces very realistic images, it seems to be the dominant evidence of computer
involvement in interior design and architecture. As for previous generation
computers, computers were first involved in architectural design in the form of aid
in calculating construction, costs and the like. Technology, on the other hand, is
the application of scientific principles, resulting in something meaningful to
human life. Application of these principles can be in the field of engineering and
social. (supriadi, 1994; 116).

The process of design and architecture utilizes computers in line with the
development of computer capabilities. When new generation computers are able
to perform heavy calculations as required in 3D architectural rendering, the world
of interior design and architecture responds with optimism and high interest. From
it the pictures of interior and architectural design presentations are almost
indistinguishable from real conditions. The process includes: problem analysis,
problem solving synthesis, evaluation and communication of the stages. How far
the role will depend on both parties, namely the creativity of architects and
advances in computer technology (digital) (Satwiko, 2010; 11).

Technology in the field of Architecture plays an active role in the

development of Architecture Science. With the development of the era,
application applications that support performance in the field of architecture is
growing rapidly and facilitate the architects in completing a project.

Software / applications used in the field of architecture include:

1. AutoCAD.

CAD computer software for drawing 2 dimensions and 3 dimensions

developed by Autodesk.

2. 3d Studio Max

Often used as an animation software, both animated architecture and graphics

such as animated films.

3. Revit Arsitektur
This software is a combined software from AutoCAD and 3dMax, because
this product can create 2D and 3D display simultaneously.

4. ArchiCad

This software has the same system with revit, but for the problem of rendering
the system is still much different from the revit. More widely used in some
consultants in Indonesia because in terms of dimensional has been in accordance
with dimensional standards in Indonesia.

5. Google SketchUp

Google SketchUp has a 3d image warehouse facility that provides multiple 3D

descriptions libraries derived from other Google SketchUp users around the
world.

Satwiko in digital architecture book mentions, when made outline, the

utilization of information technology on the work of architects can be found in the
following activities (not a standard sequence);

1. Communication (correspondence, consultation, either written or drawn by

means of manual or electronic mail),

2. Data search (climate, topography, transport network, utility network,

population distribution, local regulations, product materials, research results, etc.)

3. Preliminary Sketching (initial ideas for discussions with clients and team
planners both in 2D, 3D, animation and virtual reality),

4. Calculations (construction, cost, building physics, utilities, energy,

pollution)

5. Development of Design (towards the more integrated design work in the

form of animation or virtual reality that can be done manually or automatically
with morphing technique),
6. Introduction of Utilization of New Technology in Buildings (solar energy,
intelligent / smart buildings),

7. Presentation (presentation of the final design product),

8. Work drawings, and

9. Archiving of Design Works (keeping the design work in a systematic and

safe way to be used at a later time).

Utilization of information technology in the field of architecture feels very

needed because with the support of technology can simplify and improve
architectural performance. As in Early Sketching, designers and architects used
the concept of hand-sketching, and color visualization using color pencils,
markers, watercolors, oil paints, while using sketching technology can be done
through smart phone media, net book and computer and various data processing
with software related to interior design.

With the support of technology in the field of architecture can facilitate the
work and provide benefits such as more effective and efficient learning, easier
computing, reduce costs for procurement of expensive physical lab equipment and
the procurement of expensive import reference books.
