1 Introduction
The TSA-1000X Electrical Automatic Control and Delay Device (CDE) is designed in
accordance with EN 54-2; EN 54-4; and EN 12094-1 Standards.
The TSA-1000X is a combined conventional (i.e. Non Addressable) Fire Alarm Control
Panel (Control and Indication Equipment, CIE) and an Extinguishing Control and Delay
Device (CDE).
It supports one flooding zone and four inputs, of which three are detector zones inputs
and one input is a programmable Detector/MCP/Auxiliary/Manual Activation input. All
four inputs can contribute to the extinguishing decision group (referred to in this manual
also as the decision matrix).
The TSA-1000X has an internal and integral Power Supply/Charger, the PS_40W,
designed and certified to EN 54-4.
In addition to being a Gas Extinguishing system, the TSA-1000X, due to its flexibility and
the additional options it supports, can also control other extinguishing systems, such as
water and aerosol systems.
Using Telefire's proprietary adapters, the extinguisher output can drive different
extinguishing devices, such as solenoids, GCA, Detonators, etc.
Most inputs and outputs of the TSA-1000X are pre-assigned and fixed function, and it is
shipped with a default configuration and parameters. However, Input No. 4 of the Main
Board, output 4 of the Main Board and relay 6 of the EM083 expansion board can be
programmed, and the Control Panel can be configured to adapt to different extinguisher
systems and sites' requirements (Using Telefire's proprietary extinguishing adapters).

3 Important Notes
3.1 Manual Triggering Devices
An integral Manual Triggering device (Push Button) is installed on the front panel of the
ECD.
This is a double action, positive activation device.
It is designed to prevent accidental activation, but it can be easily activated if the
operator deliberately chooses to operate it.

Note
i The Manual triggering device mounted on the front panel of the TSA-1000X
ECD is not in accordance to EN 12094-3.

Note
i If a remote (non panel mounted) extinguishing manual triggering device is
used, then USE ONLY an approved and certified Extinguishing Triggering
Device of the correct color as per EN 12094-3.

3.2 Manual Triggering and Zone 4

The EN 12094-1 standard, (para. 4.4,)requires the ECD to start the extinguishing when
triggered from a single source (zone) or from a Manual triggering device.
The standard also states that some countries require triggering from two independent
sources for starting the extinguishing process.
The TSA-1000X ECD default configuration is to enter the Activated state on trigger from
Zone1 AND Zone 2 (i.e. two zones coincidence). Zone 3 and 4 are fire alarm detectors
zone, and do not contribute to the extinguishing decision.
Zone 4 can be configured as a detector zone (default), a MCP input, a supervisory input,
or as a Push Button input.
If configured as "Push Button" (PB) input, and the zone is NOT configured as a member
of the extinguishing decision group, the input becomes a Manual Call Point (MCP) i.e. a
Fire Alarm input.
If zone 4 IS CONFIGURED AS A PB AND IS ALSO PROGRAMMED AS A MEMBER
OF THE EXTINGUISHING DECISION GROUP, the input becomes A MANUAL
TRIGGERING DEVICE (EXTINGUISHING!).
In this configuration, operating the PB will trigger the extinguisher after the same delay
as that of the integral triggering device programmed delay.

Note
i If a remote (non panel mounted) extinguishing manual triggering device is
used, then USE ONLY an approved and certified Extinguishing Triggering
Device of the correct color as per EN 12094-3.

TSA-1000X
© 2010 – 2012 Telefire Fire & Gas Detectors Ltd Revision 1.12 April 201

Note
i If a remote (non panel mounted) Manual Call Point is used, then USE ONLY
an approved and certified Device of the correct color as per EN 12094-3 and
EN 54-2.

If two zones coincidence is not required by your national regulations, you may change
the configuration so the ECD activates on any single zone which is configured as a
member of the Extinguishing Decision Group.

Note
i Trigger on coincidence of more than two independent sources does not
comply with the 12094-1 standard.

3.3 Two Zones Coincidence

The detailed explanation of the operation of the ECD is provided in CONTROL PANEL
OPERATION, page 40.
Two zones coincidence, required n some countries, is explained below,
When the ECD is configured for two zones coincidence, then a trigger from one of the
zones which are members of the extinguishing decision group will change the state of
the ECD to "Fire Alarm", and to the "Preactivated state". Trigger from a second zone,
which is a member of the extinguishing decision group, will cause the ECD to enter the
"Activated" state. If a Non-Zero Delay is programmed, the ECD will enter the "Pre
Discharge Warning Tim". If Delay is zero, or the warning time (delay) expires, the
extinguisher is triggered.
The default configuration of the TSA-1000X is activation on two zones coincidence of
zone 1 and zone 2.

Note
i If zones which are not members of the extinguishing decision group are
triggered, the ECD changes state to "Fire Alarm", BUT DOES NOT ENTER
THE PREACTIVATED/ACTIVATED states, and the extinguisher is NOT
ACTIVATED even if two such zones are triggered.

In the default Configuration, zone 3 and zone 4 are NOT MEMBERS of the extinguishing
decision group.

3.4 Dependency on More Than One Alarm Signal

The TSA-200X supports the "Dependency on more than one alarm signal" function, also
termed (By UL) "Alarm Verification Function" (AVF), as detailed in EN-54-2,
paragraph 7.12.
The alarm Delay and Confirmation (verification) feature allows the control panel to ignore
false, short and transient alarm events, which may cause a nuisance and unnecessary
extinguishing.
This feature is based on an Alarm Delay Period, and an Alarm Confirmation Period.
The alarm delay can be programmed, PER ZONE, to OFF (No Delay, No Alarm
Verification) or to ON. Each detection zone can be programmed independently.

TSA-1000X
© 2010 – 2012 Telefire Fire & Gas Detectors Ltd Revision 1.12 April 201

If the zone Alarm Delay is programmed ON, there is a 30 seconds alarm Delay. During
the delay period alarms are ignored. This is followed by a 180 seconds confirmation
period.
When a zone programmed for alarm verification is first triggered, the control panel resets
the zone in alarm, waits for 30 seconds (if Delay is ON) and enters a 180 seconds (3
minutes) confirmation period. During the 30 seconds delay period, alarms are ignored.
During the 180 seconds confirmation period, the control panel enters the alarm state
immediately if a trigger from the same zone or from another zone is received, even if the
other zone is programmed for alarm delay and confirmation).
If, during the alarm confirmation period, no alarm is received, the ECD reestablishes the
quiescent condition.
Each detectors zone can be independently programmed for Alarm Delay and
Confirmation, (Alarm Verification).
The dependencies supported, as per EN 54-2, paragraph 7.12 are type A or type B,
depending on the configuration of the TSA-200X.

3.5 Note Regarding Default Configuration

Note
i By default, the TSA-1000X is programmed for Two Zones Coincidence, and
NO Alarm Delay (No Alarm Verification).
To modify these and additional settings, the TSA-1000X must be
programmed accordingly.

3.6 Maximum Number of Detectors

EN 54-2 specifies a limit of 32 detectors per zone, which is the limit of each zone of the
TSA-1000X, hence the TSA-1000X is limited to 192 detectors.

3.7 Suitability of use in various environments

See Mounting, page 24
3.7.1 Environmental Limits and Protection Level
The TSA-200/TSA-200XT environmental limits are specified in EN-54-02:1998 para. 12.
The TSA-200 / TSA-200XT is specified for -5°C to +40°C, RH max 95% temperature
range, and IP30 protection level.

Note
i See Routing cables into the ECD and maintaining the protection level,
page 25, for information about maintaining the protection level.

Note
i Do not operate the ECD outside the specified limits.

an indoors location, well ventilated location, protected from the elements.
Avoid locating the CP in direct sunlight or near sources of heat.
It is recommended to install the CP in an electrically quiet location (i.e. away from high
power cables, motors, etc).

3.8 Limiting the Consequences of Faults

See POWER SUPPLY, CHARGER AND BATTERIES, page 21 for explanation of
PS/Charger limiting/protection devices.
The Main Board, which contains the charging circuitry and the battery protective
resettable PTC, also has a common electronic limiter for most output ports (It does not
protect the contacts of relays!)), which are monitored by the CPU
If there is an overload on an output (or outputs), the common limiter shuts off, the buzzer
sounds and the visual fault indication and the Fault relay are switches ON. The CPU
switches OFF all the controlled outputs. It then switches ON the separate outputs in
sequence, until the faulty output is isolated. All "good" outputs are then switched ON,
except for the faulty outputs.
The controlled outputs (i.e. not relays' contacts or OC outputs) are continuously
monitored.
Recovery from faults is detected by the CPU and all relevant recovered outputs are
reactivated, if necessary.
Open Collector outputs are current limited by design, by series connected high value
resistors.
NOTE! The control panel shall be powered by a dedicated mains circuit with its own
circuit breaker.

Note
i Relays' contacts are neither monitored nor limited.
Connect external protective circuitry to the relays' contacts circuitry.

5.2 Batteries Handling and Safety

Note
i Batteries require special care and safety precautions.
Refer to the batteries’ manufacturer literature for full information.

The following information supplements and highlights manufacturer’s information.

WHEN HANDLING BATTERIES, OBSERVE THE MANUFACTURER’S
RECOMMENDATIONS REGARDING CLOTHING AND PROTECTIVE GEAR
Use two 12V 5 AH sealed Lead Acid batteries, such as Yuasa NP5-12 or equivalent,
connected in series.
Use the supplied wires to connect to the batteries, and to connect two batteries in series.
Since the batteries used are maintenance free, and the ECD automatically controls the
battery charging, discharge and test, no SPECIAL maintenance is required.

OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING:

Connect the battery to the ECD main board battery terminal block using the supplied
wires. Observe polarity.
Keep the batteries clean and dry
Keep the area well ventilated
Smoking, fire or sparks ARE NOT ALLOWED near batteries.
When working on batteries, DISCONNECT THE BATTERIES AND ALL OTHER
POWER SOURCES

Note
i If batteries show any signs of swelling, rupture, fluid leakage, emission of
gases or fluids, heating or discoloration, or accumulation of corrosion
products near the terminals, OR YOU HEAR A HISSING SOUND, disconnect
the batteries and replace with a new pair of the appropriate type.

Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning the batteries and the enclosure, if
necessary
Dispose of batteries properly
Do not short-circuit, puncture, crush, or dispose of batteries in fire.
Do not connect batteries to makeshift chargers or power supply.
Do not expose the batteries or its terminals to mechanical stress
Handling of materials that leak from the batteries should be done by qualified personnel
using the appropriate protective gear, materials, and procedures.
If the ECD indicates a battery fault, check the wiring.
If necessary, replace the batteries

6 Access Levels
The control panel provides protection from unauthorized access of certain functions by
various access levels.
The TSA-1000X includes electronic and mechanical mechanisms that enact 4 access
levels, as per EN 12094-1 Annex A:
• Access level 1 – not limited, immediate access by operator
• Access level 2 (operator) – protected by an operator password. Provides all of
access level 1 functions and allows access to additional functions that are
performed on a regular basis by the system’s operator.

Note
i To avoid multiple PW key punching, there is a 3 minutes period after the
operator's PW has been entered, when the PW remains valid and effective,
which enables the operator to perform several tasks continuously without
entering the PW separately for each action.
(Since. In the password delay, the reentering of level 2 PW is not required,
level 2 access appears to be level 1 access, and level 3 appears to be level 2
access).

• Access level 3 (programmer & installer) – protected by a programmer password

(different from the operator's password!) or a mechanical key. Provides all of
access to level 1 and 2 functions and allows access to additional functions such as
programming, and access for functions performed during installation.

Note
i Access levels 2 and 3 have different passwords. This is not correlated to the
number of times the password has to be keyed in to access a certain menu.
Some sub-menus which are accessible at level 3, require that the level 3
(programmer) password be entered in a single menu, while others (for
additional safety) require the level 3 password to be entered in to different
menus.

• Access level 4 (manufacturer) – Only accessible using a dedicated PC SW tool or a

mechanical key.
The mechanically controlled access elements are detailed below.
The ECD enclosure has a door/front-panel with a mechanical lock. A detachable key is
required to open the lock, which requires a positive and deliberate action and prevents
accidental and non authorized access. Hence the access level to the batteries and AC
power lines and the field wiring connections is 3/4.
(SEE EN 12094-1 5.3.2)
Two switches are located on the front panel. A Manual &Automatic/Manual Only key-
switch and a Manual Activation Push Button switch.

9 Installation
9.1 Pre-Installation Planning
Planning of quantity and location of detectors, push buttons, notification appliances and
extinguishing devices shall be done according to the local codes and regulations and in
accordance to the planning consultant's requirements.
9.1.1 Capacity Planning
Ensure that the total number of input initiating devices does not exceed local regulations
of the number of initiating devices per zone, area or other limitations. Ensure that the
number of zones satisfy the requirements of the consulting planner,
You can connect up to 5 sounders, beacons, or sounders-beacons to programmable
output 4 and the horn output.
Note
i Do not connect devices that should be supervised to the TSA-1000-EM083.

9.1.2 Calculating Current Requirement and Battery Capacity

For every control panel, calculate the total current consumption of all devices such as
sounder, beacons, extinguishing cylinders actuators, Ext. Activated sign, automatic
dialer etc. Ensure that the total current draw does not exceed 1.5A.
The batteries are rechargeable, sealed lead acid batteries, in total voltage of (Nominal)
24 volts (two 12 volt batteries in series) and capacity of 4.5 or 5 AH.
9.1.3 Cabling Planning – Input lines
Use a 2-wire cable, 12 – 18 AWG (0.8 to 3.3 mm2) for IDC (zone) connections.
Wire Type Cross-Section (mm2) Maximum IDC Length
18 AWG 0.82 mm 1,200 m 3,940 ft
16 AWG 1.31 mm 1,900 m 6,230 ft
14 AWG 2.08 mm 3,000 m 9,840 ft
12 AWG 3.31 mm 4,800 m 15,750 ft
Table 2 IDC cable selection

9.1.4 Cabling Planning – Output Lines and 24VDC Out

Use a 2-wire cable, 12 – 18 AWG (0.8 to 3.3 mm2) for Output Lines and 24VDC Out
connections.
The length of output lines and 24VDC out cabling depends on the required current and
cable size. Ensure that the maximum voltage drop to the end of the line at full load does
not exceed 3V and will leave the last device the minimal operating voltage as per the
manufacturer's specification.
9.1.5 Cabling Planning – Shielded Cables
It is highly recommended to avoid outdoor wiring due to the increased susceptibility to
lightning strikes. Overhead cables running between buildings or on roofs should be
shielded. The shield should be connected to the ground by using the Master Ground
Terminal in the control panel. Grounding should not be connected to any other points.
Ensure continuous grounding by soldering.

9.3.4 24VDC Powered Devices

To ensure operation of alarm or initiating device that requires relatively high current from
a 24 VDC source, use appropriate cables.
Wire specifications should be between 12 and 18 AWG and the cable resistance running
between the 24 VDC source to the I/O module and from the I/O module to the device
should be calculated. Ensure that no device receives a voltage below its specified
minimum operating value and that the total voltage drop will not exceed 3 volts.
Calculate the total current drawn by the system and system devices at normal operation
and alarm modes. Ensure that the total load on the power supply does not exceed its
limit of 1.5 Ampere.
9.3.5 Output Wiring
Activation circuit cabling between the 24VDC source to the output device such as
sounders, extinguishing devices, strobes, etc., shall be calculated to a maximum voltage
drop of 3V or a voltage drop that will leave the device with the lowest operating voltage
specified by the manufacturer – the lowest voltage drop of the two.

Note
i Input and output lines must be wired as a single radial circuit, without stubs or
T- junctions.

Warning
! Disconnect all power supplies, (main and batteries) before connecting
or disconnecting cables to the control panel.
Verify that the system operates normally and that there are no zones in
alarm prior to connecting or replacing extinguishing devices.

9.3.6 End of Line Device (EOL)

Remove EOL resistors from the terminal block. Install the End of Line resistors (E.O.L.)
to the last device of the Input or output.

9.4 Installation of Detectors and Manual Call Points

Install all detectors and manual call points at their locations according to the applicable
regulations.

Note
i Input and output lines must be wired as a single radial circuit, without stubs or
T-junctions.

Test all wiring and fix all faults before connecting the devices to the ECD.

Note
i Telefire's detectors can be activated for testing the system by bringing a
magnet close to a defined area of the detectors, simplifying testing.

12 Control Panel Operation

12.1 Control Panel conditions and functions
As detailed in EN 12094-1, paragraph 3.1.3, the TSA-1000X ECD can be in the following
conditions:
Quiescent condition, Pre-activated condition, Activated condition, Fault warning
condition, Disabled condition, Released condition
The TSA-1000X inherently supports, by being basically an EN 54-2 fire alarm control
panel, a Fire Alarm condition.
It also supports a Test condition (per EN 54-2, section10), and Auxiliary and Supervisory
indications, explained later.
The ECD also supports an Alarm Verification function, and the Evacuation function.

12.2 Control Panel Interfaces and Capabilities

12.2.1 Inputs
The TSA-1000X has four detection Inputs. Inputs 1-3 are preconfigured as detection
zones, Input 4 can be programmed as a detection zone or as a fire alarm manual call
point (MCP), a remote manual (extinguisher) activation input, or as a supervisory input.
The ECD supports the following additional inputs:
Hold input, to delay the extinguisher release and enable people to evacuate the
protected premises before extinguishing starts.
Abort input, to abort the extinguishing process.
Flow switch, to monitor the flow of extinguishing agent.
Pressure switch, to monitor low pressure in the Extinguishant container
There are two manual switches on the front panel:
A positive action “Activate Extinguisher” push-button, and
a key-switch to select either a “Manual Only” operation (i.e. only the manual
“Extinguisher Activate” PB switch is enabled, detection zones do not affect
extinguishing-they activate only the alarm devices), or a “Manual and Automatic”
position, where extinguisher operation can be triggered by either the “Extinguisher
Activate” PB switch, or by detection zones.

Note
i As described in EN 12094-1, Para. 4.21.5, FOR TEST PURPOSES ONLY, a
“Terminate” switch Input is provided, enabling the termination the
extinguishing pulse.

Note
i DISCONNECT AND REMOVE THE "TERMINATE" SWITCH AND WIRES
AT THE END OF THE TEST

12.2.2 Outputs and Output Devices

The TSA-1000X has the following outputs:
• An extinguisher (reverse polarity) output.

TSA-1000X
© 2010 – 2012 Telefire Fire & Gas Detectors Ltd Revision 1.12 April 2012

It has the following level activation outputs:

• A Fire Alarm Sounder device, usually a Horn or a Bell,
• A general purpose (default-alarm) output (4), (Programmable)
• An Alarm Dialer output,
• An Extinguishing Sounder/Strobe (Note! The Fire Alarm Sounder and the
Extinguishing Sounder must have different sounds),
• An “Extinguisher Activated” sign output,
The ECD also has 8 Open Collector outputs to indicate abort, hold, “Manual Only” input
activation, ,an output indicating the activation of a pressure switch an output indicating
the “Released” condition, And an output indicating an alarm per zone for zones 1-3.
12.2.3 Relays
The TSA-1000X has two alarms relays, one fault relay, one 1st stage relay, one 2nd stage
relay, and a programmable relay..
Relays 1 and 2 activate on any alarm from any of the four zones, FS or the "Activate"
Push Button.
Relay 3 (fault) will activate at any fault event.
Relay 4 (1st stage). It will activate when the ECD enters the Pre-Activated state.
Relay 5 (2nf Stage), will activate when the ECD enters the Activated state.
Relay 6, a programmable relay. (default- alarm)
12.2.4 Interfaces Monitoring
All the Inputs and the MB output lines are monitored for the following faults:
Open, Short and ground Faults.
The EM083 card Open Collector outputs and the relays contacts are NOT monitored.
12.2.5 Extinguishing Decision Group (Matrix)
To enable the ECD to activate the extinguisher by alarms triggered by the inputs, a
decision group (or matrix) must be defined from the four inputs. When the matrix is
asserted (i.e. the extinguishing conditions are fulfilled) the extinguishing process can
start.
The TSA-1000X supported matrix can include a single zone, any two zones of selected
group of zones, or all member zones of the group.
12.2.6 History File
All events are saved to a History, or Log File, which can be printed or be accessed by a
PC with proprietary Software installed.
12.2.7 Alarm Counter
The Alarms are counted in a special register (ALC, Alarm Counter), which can be
displayed in the status display

12.3.2 Quiescent Condition

If there are no active events, the ECD is in the Quiescent (or Idle) condition.
12.3.3 Fire Alarm Condition
If an alarm event trigger received, the ECD enters the “Alarm” condition.
In this condition the following outputs are activated:
The relevant Alarm LEDs, Fire Alarm Sounder (Horn), General Purpose output (4),
Alarm relays (1 and 2, ) and the programmable relay (6) and the (if relevant) appropriate
Zone alarm output.
12.3.4 Pre-Activated Condition (1st Stage)
If the (single) trigger source is in the Extinguishing decision group (Zone 1 OR Zone 2 in
the default configuration), the ECD enters the Pre-activated condition

Note
i This is the 1st stage of the automatic-release process.

In this condition the following outputs are activated:

The Pre/Activated LED flashes, 1st stage relay is ON
12.3.5 Activated Condition (2nd Stage)
If an additional alarm occurs in another of the decision group member zones (Zone 1 or
2), the extinguishing matrix is asserted, and the ECD enters the Activated state and
RESET IS INHIBITED.

Note
i This is the 2nd stage of the automatic release process,

In this condition the following outputs are activated:

The Pre/Activated LED is ON, 2nd stage relay is ON, the Sounder/Strobe output flashes.

12.3.6 Pre Discharge Warning Time (Extinguishing Pulse Delay Time)

The ECD now enters the Pre-Discharge warning time, (extinguishing pulse delay time),
which is, in the default case, 30 seconds. Note, if the Delay is programmed to Zero, the
ECD triggers the extinguisher immediately, skipping the Pre-Discharge warning time.
During the Pre-Discharge warning time, the Extinguishing Strobe/Sounder flashes at 1
second ON, one seconds OFF, and the buzzer ticks at a 1 second interval. If Hold is
activated, the Extinguishing Strobe/Sounder flashes at 1 second ON, 4 seconds OFF,
and so does the buzzer (Fault sound).
The delay is programmable between 0-50 seconds in 5 seconds steps.
In this condition the following outputs are activated:
The Delay LED is ON, the Internal Buzzer ticks at 1 second intervals, the status display
indicates the countdown time to extinguishing.
Add explanation of Hold
12.3.7 Extinguishing pulse duration and the Released Condition
When the delay elapses, if Hold or Abort are not asserted, and if there is no fault in the
Hold Or abort inputs, The ECD triggers the extinguisher and starts the extinguishing
pulse duration period, and enters the Released condition.
In extinguishing pulse period, he extinguisher output is ON for (default) 20 seconds.
The extinguisher pulse duration is programmable between 20-495 seconds, in 5
seconds steps
In this condition the following outputs are activated:
The Extinguisher output and the Extinguisher Activated sign outputs are ON, the
Sounder/Strobe output is ON ,the Released out is ON. The status display shows EEE.
When the extinguishing pulse ends, the extinguisher output is switched OFF.
12.3.8 Reset Inhibit Period
The ECD then enters the Reset Inhibit Period, where reset is inhibited for an additional
period after the extinguishing pulse has ended. In the default case, it is 1 minute.
The Reset Inhibit Period is programmable between 1 -15m.
In this condition status display shows E‫כ‬.u (Extinguisher activated, Reset Unavailable)
12.3.9 Reset Enable
After the Reset inhibit period ends, Reset is re-enabled.
In this state, the General fault Led, the Extinguishing Zone fault LED and the Fault relay
are activated. Also, the zones in Alarm and Extinguisher Fault are indicated by the
Status display, (which can be scrolled for details). This is done in order to verify that the
operator is aware that the extinguisher has been activated, it is now empty (i.e. in a Fault
condition), and needs attention and corrective action.
12.3.10 Reset Performed
After Reset is performed, ALL alarm indications, outputs and relays are OFF.
The General fault Led, the Extinguishing Zone fault LED and the Fault relay are ON
Also the Status display indicates E1.A and the Fault Status LED is ON, (Indicating an
Extinguisher Fault.)
12.3.11 Reestablishment of the Quiescent (Idle) Condition
After ALL the issues are resolved and the Extinguisher is replenished brought to working
order,
The ECD can be set to the Quiescent (idle) state.

13 Operating Instructions
13.1 Default Operation
If the ECD is in the quiescent state, the Manual/Automatic switch is in the Automatic&
manual mode, then alarms in fire decision detection zones/Call points, or manual
activation, will start the extinguishing process according to the programmed
configuration and timing parameters. If the process was not interrupted by other inputs
or faults (i.e. Hold, Abort), the Extinguishant is released.

13.2 Manual Only

It is sometimes necessary to inhibit the extinguishing process from being triggered by
the detection zones or manual (Alarm) call points. (For example, when welding is being
performed in the detection zone)
In such a case, turn the "Automatic/Manual" switch to the "Manual Only" position.
In The Manual Only position, ONLY Manual activation (or Flow Switch activation!) will
cause the ECD to enter the Activated state and proceed to extinguishing (i.e. alarms in
zones will not cause the ECD to enter the Activated state).
This state is indicated by the "Manual Only" LED in the Extinguishing zone display and
by the "Manual Only" output being switched ON.
DO NOT FORGET TO SWITCH BACK TO Automatic& Manual position when the
Manual Only mode is not required.

13.3 Manual Activation

Pressing the Manual Activation Panel Mounted push button switch will cause the ECD to
enter the Activated condition, with all its indications and outputs activated. In the default
case, the Manual Activation Delay is zero, and this will cause an immediate activation of
the extinguisher and the ECD enters the extinguishing pulse period. If the programmed
delay is not zero, the ECD enters the Pre Discharge Warning Time, at the end of which,
if not halted (by Hold, Abort, or a fault in the abort or hold circuits), the extinguisher is
triggered, and the ECD starts the extinguishing pulse period.
This switch does NOT activate any zone LED indicator.

Note
i The pushbutton cover is yellow and is labeled “Extinguishant Release”

To activate the manual Extinguisher Release, forcibly pull the yellow hinged lid up to tear
the securing nylon tie wrap, and then press the Push Button.
This input is latched.

13.4 Abort
The operator can abort the extinguishing process (as long as the extinguisher is not
triggered yet), by asserting the "abort" input.
Asserting the Abort input (pressing the Abort switch), switches the Abort LED and the
Abort output ON, aborts the Extinguishing process, and prevents the ECD from entering
the Released state.
All active "Alarm" outputs and indications remain ON.

TSA-1000X
© 2010 – 2012 Telefire Fire & Gas Detectors Ltd Revision 1.12 April 2012

When "Abort" is pressed, most of the Extinguishing Group Members are inhibited: The
Extinguishing strobe/sounder, the extinguisher output, "Extinguisher Activated" sign, and
the Released output are OFF until the Abort state is removed.

Note
i The 1st and 2nd stage relays are not affected.

In this state, the buzzer sounds the Fault signal

This input has no effect after extinguishing has started.
The Abort state is removed only after the Abort switch is released, and the ECD is reset.

13.5 Hold
Sometimes, when the alarm is triggered and the extinguishing imminent, some additional
delay is required before release. This can be achieved by pressing Hold.
Activating the hold input (pressing its PB) switches the Hold LED and Output ON, stops
the Delay Count down, and the Pre Discharge Warning Time and its display are
reinitialized to 30 seconds. In the default case,
The countdown starts again when the Hold is deactivated, i.e. when the switch is
released.
During the Pre Discharge Warning time, the extinguishing strobe sounder pulses one
second ON and one second OFF.
If Hold is activated during that time, the buzzer sounds the Fault signal (1 second ON, 4
seconds OFF), and so does the Extinguishing Sounder/Strobe.
This is done so people are informed audibly that Hold was activated.
This input has no effect after Extinguishant release has started.

13.6 Flow Switch

The flow switch is triggered by Extinguishant flow. Triggering of the Flow Switch causes
an immediate activation of al the Released-state outputs and indications, except for the
extinguisher output, which, obviously, has been already triggered.
The Released LED and Release output are ON if the extinguisher output was triggered
by the ECD or if the Flow Switch was activated.

13.7 Pressure Switch

A pressure switch input and indication are provided, as per "Monitoring the status of
components – EN 12094-1 Section 4.19 option with requirements"
This is intended to monitor low pressure of Extinguishant, in systems that have such a
switch.

13.8 Terminate Switch

Operating this switch terminates the extinguishing pulse and/or the Reset Inhibit period
and enables reset.

Note
i This is to be connected and used for TEST PURPOSES ONLY!

TSA-1000X
© 2010 – 2012 Telefire Fire & Gas Detectors Ltd Revision 1.12 April 2012

Note
i Disconnect and remove at the end of the test.
Terminate pulse as quickly as possible, to avoid depleting the Extinguishant.

Note
i This input is tested by the ECD for correct logic transition only, AND IS NOT
MONITORED OTHERWISE

13.9 Reset
Pressing the Reset key resets the ECD if it is in the Quiescent, Alarm and Preactivated
states. From the start of the Activated state to the end of the Reset Inhibit period, reset is
not possible.
If all events and problems are cleared and resolved, reset (when enabled) reestablishes
the quiescent state, with one exception.
After the reset inhibit period has elapsed, reset will change the state of the ECD as
described earlier and only after entering and exiting the programming mode, and then
pressing the reset key again(if all issues are resolved. i.e. no events) will the Quiescent
state be established.

13.10 Silencing
The Control Panel (ECD) has a FIRE ALARM Sounder output referred to as the Horn,
which is the MB local output 6.
(See remark about numbering of ports)
This output operates on ANY alarm signal, even if the trigger source does not belong to
the extinguishing decision group. (i.e. will not cause the Preactivated or activated state,
and will not cause the extinguisher to operate)
Silencing of the FIRE ALARM sounder Main Board (MB) local output 6, typically a Horn,
is possible at access level 2, as it requires the Operator's password.
However, the EN 12094-1 Alarm Device (4.3.2 c), which is referred to in this Technical
Manual as the Extinguishing Sounder/Strobe, MB local output No. 2, operates when the
ECD enters the Activated state. The Extinguishing Sounder Strobe flashes in the Pre
Discharge Warning Time, and is continuously ON in the Released state.
It cannot be silenced from the start of the Activated state until the end of the Reset
Inhibit period, at ANY access level, as required by this standard! If the Fire Alarm Horn
(Output 6) is ON, it can be silenced by pressing the Silence key of the keyboard. Also, all
outputs programmed as silenceable are switched OFF. The internal buzzer is silenced,
too
Any Alarm event will re-sound the Horn.
The silenced devices can resound again if the Silence key is pressed again for a longer
period.
The Silenced condition is indicated by a dedicated LED in the General Display area.
The Extinguishing strobe/sounder cannot be silenced.
Silencing is possible when Reset is enabled, and is inhibited when reset is inhibited

13.11 Disablement
It is sometimes necessary to disable certain functions or interfaces of the ECD. (For
example, if some welding is done near detectors, the ECD might be activated, and it is
required to disable the affected zones, and rely on Manual Activation for protection
against fire)
The control panel will ignore alarms from disabled zones and will not activate disabled
outputs or relays.
Programming the Disablement is possible only when Reset is enabled.

Note
i Disabling the Extinguisher also disables the outputs and relays associated
with it, (i.e. the Fire Extinguishing Group).

Flow Switch Actuation: Even if the Extinguisher is disabled, If the FS is actuated, all
the appropriate alarm, outputs, relays, and released state outputs and indications are
ON. (Except the extinguisher output)

13.12 Fault
The ECD monitors most of its inputs and outputs for faults.
When a fault is detected, the following occurs:
Flashing fault LEDs: general fault LED, zone fault LED (if applicable), Ext, Zone LED (if
applicable)
Also, the specific fault LED in the general area left column is ON, the Fault status
Led is On, the status displays the zone # where the fault occurred and the fault details.
The buzzer sounds the Fault signal (1-4 ON-OFF ratio)
Fault relays are activated (default RL3)
Correct and repair faults when they are discovered.
13.12.1 FWRE (Fault Dialer) Output
This is an INPUT PORT, USED AS AN OUTPUT. It is used as a FWRE (Fault Warning
Routing Equipment, or fault dialer) connection as specified in EN 54-2.
During normal operation, the output is powered. When a fault occurs in the ECD, the
power to this output is OFF.

13.13 Supervisory
An Input programmed as “Supervisory” will switch ON the "Supervisory" LED when
triggered.
This is used to indicate that an event has occurred, which is neither an alarm nor a fault,
but which needs some action to be resolved.
Supervisory events do not latch – at the end of the event; the system returns to the
previous state without intervention.
In the TSA-1000X, only input 4 can be programmed as Supervisory.
Also, output 4 can be configured as "Supervisory" which will switch ON when a
Supervisory input is triggered.

TSA-1000X

13.14 Auxiliary
When a fault occurs in an output which was configured as "General, Not Silenceable",
the Auxiliary Fault LED is switched ON.
In the TSA-1000X, this refers, in the default configuration, to output 4 only.

13.15 Internal Buzzer

When an alarm event is triggered, the buzzer sounds continuously.
When a fault event occurs, the Fault signal is sounded, i.e. 1 second ON, 4 seconds
OFF. The alarm signal has precedence over the fault signal
The buzzer can be silenced by pressing the Buzzer OFF key (Left key of the keyboard).
Any event will re-sound the buzzer.

13.16 Alarm Verification

The alarm verification feature allows the control alarm to ignore false and transient alarm
events, which may cause a nuisance.
When a zone programmed for alarm verification is first triggered, the control panel resets
the zone in alarm, waits for 0 to 55 seconds (programmable) and rechecks whether the
zone is still in alarm. During that time, the control panel will enter the (verified!) alarm
state if an alarm from the same or another zone is received.
During alarm verification timeout period, the control panel will enter alarm state
immediately in case that there is another zone alarm indication, even if that other zone is
programmed for alarm verification.
If, during the alarm verification period, no additional alarm occurs, the alarm and
verification clock will be reset and the control panel will reestablish the quiescent
condition.

13.17 Evacuation
If it is necessary to activate the Fire Alarm Sounder (Horn) output ONLY, without
activating other outputs and/or relays (For example, for Evacuation drill), the Evacuation
function, which switches ON (only) the General alarm output (out 4), The Alarm Dialer
and the Fire Alarm Sounder (Horn), can be activated at access level 2 (i.e. a password is
required) using the keyboard.

Note
i No Other output, and NO relay are activated.

13.18 Field test and Test State

Field test is used for testing of the system by a single person. Field test can be selected
for a single zone or a group of zones.
During field test, activation of a device in the selected zones will light the device's alarm
LED, indicate the zone on the control panel by the zone number and alarm LED in the
status display section. The test will not activate output devices. The system will reset
the activated zone about 15 seconds after activation. An alarm from a zone that was not
selected for testing will immediately activate the fire alarm condition at the panel.
This state is indicated by "– – –" in the status display.
See Field Test (ft), page 65.

19 Troubleshooting

Note
i The # symbol in sections to represent the number of the input, output' relay'
expansion module, etc.

19.1 Maintenance Alert

Photoelectric and multi-sensor smoke detects manufactured by Telefire have unique
physical characteristics that allow them to operate for very long period under normal
operating conditions.
The detectors perform drift compensation automatically as dust residue collects in the
detector until such time that the detector can no longer compensate for the drift. At this
time the detector will indicate the need to clean it by increasing the led flashing
frequency from once every four and a half seconds to twice a second.
The TSA-1000X indicats the zone with detector and maintenance fault by indicating the
number of the zone in the left and center digits in the Status display and by alternating
the top and bottom lines in the right digit.
