Objective

To demonstrate how simple, parallel, and series circuits work.

Materials:
- Decoration: Cardboard, Popsicle Stick, Glue (Hot Glue), Plastic
Trees, White Colour
- Circuit: Batteries, Battery Holder, Wires, LED, Resistor, Black Tape

Set up:
Background and Introduction:

In this experiment, we are curious how 3 differents circuits

work and how is it different from each other.
The first electric circuit was invented by Alessandro Volta in
1800. He discovered he could produce a steady flow of electricity
using bowls of salt solution connected by metal strips.

Discussion of Physics Concepts:

This experiment shows 3 types of circuit, simple, parallel, and

series. A circuit is the path that an electric current travels on, and a
simple circuit contains three components necessary to have a
functioning electric circuit, namely, a source of voltage, a
conductive path, and a resistor.
A parallel circuit is one that has two or more paths for the
electricity to flow, the loads are parallel to each other. If the loads in
this circuit were light bulbs and one blew out, there is still current
flowing to the others because they are still in a direct path from the
negative to positive terminals of the battery.
A series circuit is one that has more than one resistor, but only
one path through which the electricity (electrons) flows. From one
end of the cell (battery), the electrons move along one path with no
branches, through the resistors, to the other end of the cell. All the
components in a series circuit are connected end-to-end.
Discussion of Design:

1. Stick the popsicle stick and form into a house. (Can separate
roof from the building.)
2. Stick the grass and road onto the cardboard to be the base.
3. Connect the circuit: Simple circuit will be in the small house,
parallel circuit will be in the big house, and series circuit will be
the park light.
4. Decorate with trees and rocks.
Data/Analysis of Data:

Elements Data Data Analysis

Power Source 1.5 Volts 1.5 V. battery is cheap a
(Battery) standard type.
Resistor 1- 4 Ohm Because we need bright
light so the resistor
needs to be small
Conducting Wire 16 cm. We use short wires so
the project will not be
messy
Switch Simple Switch Easy to control

Conclusion:

In our town model, we were able to demonstrate the 3 circuits.

Simple circuit in the small house, parallel circuit in the big house,
and series circuit as park lights.

Recommendation:

While connecting the circuit you should avoid attaching positive and
negative charges to each other because it will cause an explosion.
Don’t forget to use a resistor to control an amount of electricity; if
the amount is more than LED can hold, then you will risk of it
breaking right in your hand.
