 Making evaluations meaningful

PURPOSE OF
EVALUATION
The purpose of evaluation is to grow a
teacher. Growing a teacher closely
relates to student achievement and
student achievement is our focus in
education.
WALK-
THROUGHS
The purpose of walk-throughs are to lead
to instructional conversations. Walk-
throughs should be no longer than 5-8
minutes, student centered, have a
focus/strong purpose, and be used for
teacher growth. It is important to build
consistency and trust among teachers, to
ask open ended questions, and to always
share your data.

FORMAL
EVALUATIONS
 Formal observations should include a
pre-conference, the observation, and a
post conference. Documentation should
be in 3rd person.  Feedback is important. provide critical, meaningful feedback.
You need to be present. Always
remember your purpose and the
importance of follow up. Video taping in
encouraged but needs teacher approval.
POST-
CONFERENCES
Focused conversations are important 
during post-conferences. Using the
"ORID" framework can help. You should
Always remember to follow up. Consider
going to the teacher instead of the
teacher coming to your office.Remember
to thank them for letting you observe!

IMPROVEMENT
PLANS
Assume that every teacher has the best

CLASS REFLECTION
During this class, I have learned the importance of being an instructional leader.
Instead of trying to change beliefs and attitudes, administrators should be
providing teachers with new strategies and practices, observing student learning,
and providing critical, meaningful feedback. The focus should always be on
improving practices. It should be a goal to get teachers and students to invite you
into their room.
Remember : "Everyone needs a coach" and to always ask, "What is best for kids?"
