FACT SHEET
Zander HumusTM (SaprozemTM)
1. Soil in General:

Zander HumusTM (SaprozemTM) not only supports ecosystems but is an ecosystem in itself,
accommodating a range of organisms and agencies that use it and change it. These relationships
are chemical, complex, and important in determining the properties of the soil and the
establishment of plant communities.

Organic carbon influences the structure of the Zander HumusTM (SaprozemTM) and improves
the physical environment, enabling the roots of plants to penetrate more easily. As part of the
system, the roots are also involved in the transformation of the soil, taking it apart, distributing
its mineral elements and providing organic wastes, etc.

The organic matter in soil is composed of plants, animals, microorganisms and their degraded
remains. Usually it represents 1 to 6% by weight. A healthy balance of organic matter is of critical
importance because of its influence on soil structure, its ability to retain water and nutrients, and
the biochemical effects of molecules on the plant.

Organic matter is a source of food for the soil fauna and contributes to biodiversity, acting as a
store of nutrients such as nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. A considerable part of a soil’s
organic matter consists of micro-organisms which thrive on organic remains and derived
substances. Soils containing organic matter have a good structure that improves the infiltration
and capillary flow upwards of water and reduces exposure to compaction, erosion and
desertification.

2. Desertification and drought:

Desertification is currently one of the great environmental challenges and a major obstacle when
it comes to the basic needs of a crop.

Impoverishment or land degradation is caused by multiple forces, in particular extreme climatic

conditions, drought and human activities that reduce soil quality, impoverish food production and
reduce land development.
Reduced organic carbon means less food for living organisms in a soil and hence less biodiversity.
The reduction in content of organic carbon limits a soil’s ability to provide nutrients for sustainable
agricultural production. This may lead to a greater use of chemical fertilizers, and thus to higher
cultivation costs and progressive environmental deterioration.
The chemicals can affect the natural pH of the soil, create salinity, contaminate aquifers and

reduce carbon content. In some cases irreparable damage to the natural environment can result.

Synthetic fertilizers (nitrates, phosphates, chlorides, etc.) should be used with moderation and
calculation, as its abuse may intoxicate and kill fauna (earthworms, insects) and flora (fungi,
bacteria) in the soil. Diluted in water fertilizers are leached into rivers, lakes and the sea, producing
eutrophication or excessive growth of aquatic plants and animals. The use of organic fertilizers such
as manure, humus, etc. avoid the occasion of these problems.

3. Zander HumusTM (SaprozemTM):

Zander Group proposes a natural, innovative and distinct system of agriculture. We offer solutions
for most of the problems facing the current agricultural system, always from an ecological
framework.
This is Zander Humus (SaprozemTM).

In its natural environment it appears as a gelatinous deposit but when extracted, it loses
water and resembles black peat. However, the appearance is its only similarity to peat. Physically
and chemically Zander Humus contains unique properties that can be channelled to provide a
means of growth for almost any environment, from very arid to equatorial zones.
The source material from which the product is processed is a dark grey gel with a humidity
of 90-95%. The material exhibits some of the properties of clay, and represents the growth and
recycling of freshwater sediments of algae, reeds, plankton and diatomaceous organisms, formed
during a period of 12-15 thousand year through various anaerobic chemical reactions. It is 100%
porous, having 90-95% dry weight organic matter and an exceptional water retention capacity.

Applications and advantages:

Possibility of cultivation in saline and arid areas

Savings in water of 50% and in some cases a single drip irrigation of 15 liters at

the time of planting and further one time more 15 days later is enough in the life of
the tree. This has been proven with Mango trees in Southern Spain.
Substantial savings in crop establishment and specific crop costs
Complete elimination of use of chemical fertilizers
Stabilization and regeneration of nutrients in the soil (including sand)
Regeneration of more stable and natural soils (previously contaminated
with heavy metals, chemicals and crude oil)
Contribution of carbon to the soil input of fulvic acids, favouring a
natural chelation with Fe, Cu, Mn, Zn etc
Greater crop productivity
Germination and faster growth
Stimulation of root systems
Greater protection against pathogens
Reduction of stress caused by sudden changes in temperature or lack of rain.
Highest organoleptic quality, increased nutrients in fruits (organic).
