1.0 Abstract

A healthy lifestyle is key to human well-being. Healthy people can certainly play an
active role in the development of religion, nation and country. World Health Organization
(WHO, 1948) defines a healthy lifestyle as a physical, mental and social health, sensational,
intelligent and free from any disease based on social and community conditions. This definition
emphasizes that healthy lifestyle status is characterized by healthy, functional, active and
physically and mentally and socially healthy factors, and is not threatened by any illness that
can be harmful to the human being. Health is one of the main focuses. The study is about
Healthy Living Practices. The study was conducted at University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia
where this study aims to collect data or information about their lifestyle from the aspects of
nutrition to exercise and to determine patterns or lifestyle patterns. The number of participants
studied was 40 students. The research method that we used is questionnaires and the
questionnaire for data collection of participant information of collecting procedure using
google form. The findings of the research are being held by observation and questionnaires. To
anyone who read this research, they are able to generate ideas and get the value of the reference.
Hopefully, this study will be used to determine the health status of the community at large

2.0 Introduction

The concept of a healthy lifestyle is the aspiration campaign of a government, even

though the private sector provides a healthy, active, prosperous and free-of-life diseases
through sedentary lifestyles. The effectiveness of the campaign in improving health among
Malaysians, however, can be doubtful. The four core components on healthy lifestyle is set :
(1) enhancing knowledge and nutrition; (2) enhancing stress management knowledge and
practice; (3) enhancing anti-smoking knowledge and practices; and (4) enhancing leisure
knowledge and practice. So that, our main target of this research is focus to UTHM students.
To prevent this problem among the students, ensuring the student’s lifestyle has been of priority
to the university health clinic. This research of the project is timely in delivering the initial
implications of finding the best way to prevent this problem in campus.

Various efforts have been made to enhance knowledge and practice among nutrition
and sports students as well as recreational practices. Unfortunately, in daily life, this knowledge
is less practiced. We believe the consumption and nutrition among UTHM students are still
weak among although they are good basically have a broad knowledge base on eating and
health. The lack of or neglect of nutritional aspects due to the "take it easy" situation students
on nutritional and due to lack of time on classes also is the main reason why they did not keep
their body in a healthy lifestyle way. We are concerned about their lifestyle and need to identify
the problem from the data we get to countermeasure. We organize the survey among the UTHM
students themselves to gain sample data for our research calculation and discussion.

We had to apply at least two basics of statistical analysis that we had learned in this
semester's statistical course in our research. Next, we use the statistical chapter's probability
distribution and estimation to support our data calculations. In addition, we focus the scope by
taking some of the Faculty members of Mechanical Engineering and Manufacturing (FKMP)
students to represent all UTHM students as we believe all of UTHM students have the same
lifestyle as a student. If we are going to get the data from all of the students, it's going to be
really hard about getting the data on their healthy lifestyle as it's going to waste a lot of time
and energy to justifying the data. By applying statistical data analysis, we expect we are able
to predict the probability and the data for the problems.

3.0 Methodology

In this projects, there are few method that we use to get the data on our research :

 The method we used is to collect data using Google Form platform and distributed the
forms via link on social application such as WhatsApp and Facebook application.
 The study location was in University Tun Hussein Onn and the respondents was
students (FKMP Students).
 A total number of 40 students data been recorded.
 Data forms was carefully labelled and organized. Data was reviewed after the survey
for unusual pattern and its accuracy. The data is then followed up with presentation and
analysis.
 The question we asked regarding daily routine such as “How often do you exercise in
a week”, “How many hours do sleep in a day” and “How many meals do you consume
per day”.

ANALYSIS AND RESULT

For the part of how often do you exercise in a week, we can calculate sample mean and
sample standard deviation as shown below where students who exercise more than 3
and less than 3 is 18 and 22 students respectively with sample size of 2.We need to
construct a 95% confidence interval for the population mean, we need to find the
probability at least 21 students exercise .
Sample mean, x= xn

= 18+222

= 20

Sample standard deviation, s = 1N-1 i=1N(xi-x)2

= 2.8284

Now, we can construct a 95 % confidence interval

n=40 , x=20, s=2.8284

=1-0.95=0.05

z/2= z0.05/2= z0.025= 1.96

xz/2(s/n)

201.96(2.8284/40)

200.8765

19.1235 < <20.8765

Thus, based on sample data, a range of sample mean of students exercising in a week
is between 19.1235 and 20.8765.

The probability at least 21 students exercise in a week as shown below :

x==20

x= /n=2.8284/40=0.44721

xN(20,0.447212)
P(x21)= P(Z21-200.44721)

= P(Z2.24)

= 0.01255

For the part of how many hours do you sleep, we can calculate sample mean and sample
standard deviation as shown below where students who sleeps more than 8 hours per
day and less than 8 hours per day is 7 and 33 students respectively with sample size of
2. We need to construct a 95% confidence interval for the population mean, we need to
find the probability more than 15 students sleeps less than 8 hours in a day

Sample mean, x= xn

= 7+332

= 20

Sample standard deviation, s = 1N-1 i=1N(xi-x)2

= 18.385

Now, we can construct a 95 % confidence interval

n=40 , x=20, s=18.385

=1-0.95=0.05

z/2= z0.05/2= z0.025= 1.96

xz/2(s/n)

201.96(18.385/40)

202.9069

17.0931 < <22.9069

Thus, based on sample data,a range of sample mean of student sleeps less than 8
hours in a day is between 17.0931 and 22.9069.
The probability more than 15 students sleeps less than 8 hours in a day as shown
below :

x=20

x= /n=18.385/40=2.9069

xN(20,2.90692)

P(x>15)= P(Z>15-202.9069)

= P(Z>-1.72)

= 1-P(Z>1.72)

= 1- 0.0427

= 0.9573

For the part of how many meal do students consume per day, we can calculate sample
mean and sample standard deviation as shown below where students who eat more than
3 meals a day and less than 3 meals per day is 15 and 25 students respectively with
sample size of 2.We need to construct a 95% confidence interval for the population
mean, we need to find the probability that more than 22 students have less than 3 meals
per day.

Sample mean, x= xn

= 22+252

= 20

Sample standard deviation, s = 1N-1 i=1N(xi-x)2

= 7.0711

Now, we can construct a 95 % confidence interval

n=40 , x=20, s=7.0711

=1-0.95=0.05

z/2= z0.05/2= z0.025= 1.96

xz/2(s/n)

201.96(7.0711/40)

202.1914

17.8086 < <22.1914

Thus, based on sample data, a range of sample mean of students consume less than 3
meals per day is between 17.8086 and 22.1914.

The probability more than 22 students have less than 3 meals per dayas shown below :

x==20

x= /n=7.0711/40=1.11804

xN(20,1.118042)

P(x>22)= P(Z>22-201.11804)

= P(Z>1.79)

= 0.0367

5.0 Discussion

We are given the task to come out with the idea to make any type of questionnaire and
the data that being obtained should be inferential statistic that we learn throughout the course
BDA24103 ENGINEERING STATISTIC. We decide to collect the data on the lifestyle of
student of UTHM by using Google Form as the platform. We collect the data by sharing the
link. We start collect the data during the link being share and stop once the quota is achieve.

We approximately collected 40 respondents from UTHM student. The questionnaire

consists of 4 type of short question. While conducting the questionnaire, we ensure that it is
easy for everyone to understand the purpose of the question. We successfully conducted the
survey and collected a reasonable result for our data.
From our study of engineering statistic, we have learned total of six chapters. Chapter
1 Random Variable, Chapter 2 Special Probability Distributions, Chapter 3 Sampling
Distribution, Chapter 4 Estimation, Chapter 5 Hypothesis Testing And Lastly Chapter 6 Simple
Linear Regression. For the inferential statistic that we have learned we choose to use Chapter
2 Special Probability Distributions and Chapter 4 Estimation. In statistical analysis we make a
claim that by using the method from both of the chapter we can find the probability and the
mean of the students actually living their life in a healthy way.

We can, therefore, determine whether the sample does or does not support the statement
of students having a healthy lifestyle. Probability and estimation is a procedure based on sample
evidence to determine whether the statement is reasonable.

6.0 Conclusion

To sum up, we know that it is important to have a healthy lifestyle since it give great
impact on our life either emotional or physical. Having a healthy lifestyle means we need to
learn how to take a good care of ourselves and try to prevent ourselves to get sick.

Based on the data we notice that majority of the students exercise less than three times
a week. This can lead to an unhealthy lifestyle in physical state where the lack of exercise can
lead to certain risk such as depression, overweight or obese and other more. It is important to
work out or exercise more than three times a week to prevent our body from getting any risk
of any kind of disease.

Other than that, majority of student also sleep less than 8 hours a day which can lead to
several bad effects in their physical and emotional state such as gaining weight, depressing,
stress and can increased risk of new and advanced respiratory disease. To avoid from getting
all the bad effect student should learn to manage their time and get enough sleep so that they
can wake up with a better and refreshing life.

Lastly, we notice that most of the students consume more than three meals a day. For
the amount of meal eaten in a single day is no very important. We can eat more or less depend
or ourselves. But the important of having meal is get enough calories that a normal person
should have in a single day so that the body will be healthy.
