INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, many people are racing against time to do their important thing such as, go
to work, attend classes and being home on time. With such an important thing to do many
people try their best to manage their time as good as possible but they still late on their
activities. In this very busy world, being late is never been a good image for a person,
imagine if you have an important meeting that can risk your company to lose a big
opportunity that can only happen once in a lifetime and you ended up late that would be
ashamed if you lose a chance because you are late while late is never been a reasonable
excuse for specific occasion such as, an important meeting, chasing a flight, attending class
etcetera. It is a reason why transportation is now common to citizens because it lower the
chance to become late and with this kind of reason transportation is such a critical factor to
support life of many people
For such a critical factor, transportation has to be managed properly and creatively so
people will feel comfort and safe because of the transportation itself. The main objective of
transportation is to pleased people’s journeys and manage their time from one location to
another on time. So transportation needs to be well facilitated and run schedule on time
because this two thing is a serious matter that made people want to journey with any kind of
transport. The transportation itself means any device used to move an item from one
location to another. Common forms of transportation include planes, trains, automobiles, and
other two-wheel devices such as bikes or motorcycles.
SOCIETY AND PROBLEM FACED BY THEM

In author’s university which is University Utara Malaysia (UUM) there is public

transportation that is provided by the university for student activities. The primary
transportation that student use is a bus. Bus for the student are well facilitated and run on
schedule, therefore, the student can do their activities and manage their time properly, in
theory. In this university (UUM) bus is very important to all of the students because it is the
only way we can go from one place to another and it is the only transportation for some
student that does not have their own private transportation like cars, bikes and motorcycles.
With the only transportation in UUM bus will be very crowded in several times such as, in the
morning when class started, in the afternoon when everyone has their own schedule and in
the evening when student want to go back to their dormitory. Here author will explain the
main problems and the solution that can be used to reduce the problems.
1. Problems
The first problem that is being faced by UUM student is the number of the student itself
with 30,670 students from Degree, Master and PhD. The high number of student became
the reason why the buses are always crowded in a specific time. When it comes to the
problem of the number of students it can come in unison with the nonproportional number of
buses, therefore whenever the buses come to the bus stop in specific time for example in
the afternoon when student need to go from one place to another, the buses will be fully
loaded with student and it will take extra time to go to another place and some students
would be forced to wait for another bus. This became the main reason for students to come
late to the class which resulted in the loss of time and information from lecturers. The
casualty that is being borne by the student are great and it is caused by the lack of facilities
by the university.
As stated before, the number of bus fleet in the university is not proportional to the
number of people. The rotation that the university made for the buses were not managed
very well and the drivers of the buses often could not manage the time for their arrival. Often
the number of buses that are being placed in several lanes are not the same and cannot fulfil
the number of people heading to their destination. Buses that are assigned to lane A and B
are in fact greater in number than the buses that are being assigned for lane E, D, and C.
Lane E for example, the final destination for lane E is outside of the campus ground. The
buses that they provide are limited and that became a barrier for people to move around
from inside the campus ground to social studies building. The possibilities for people to
travel from inside of the campus to SOIS building are not high since it is not within the
walking range of most people and also the road does not have a pedestrian friendly path.
This leaves the option for social studies student solely on buses that the university provide or
personal vehicle. The stop for bus E is also limited which is in the front of TM dormitory,
alumni junction, and the social studies building. For students that stay in other dorms, they
have to walk to TM to catch the bus or they can take bus B or A to alumni junction and take
bus E from there onwards. The choices for these students are limited and it consumes their
time.
The third problem that students in UUM are facing is that the fact that bus is not always
available inside of the campus ground as often as it is on the weekdays. On the weekends
when people need to go buy essential things in varsity mall or C-Mart, or when they need to
go to a meeting of their organisations there are not many buses that they can take in order to
get to the places they want. The pause between buses to come are also very seldom and
therefore it makes the student have to wait for a long time for the bus to come.
2. Opportunity and Ideation
With such problems that are happening in this university, we can pull the string of the
opportunity to make it into three different types of chances which are the chance to provide
another mode of transportation, lessen the number of students that takes buses therefore
create a more punctual students that would benefit both the students and the lecturers, and
as a tool to meet students all over the campus.
This business offers a leisure for the students as well as the university because of the
benefits it offers. The advantage that the students would gain are the comfort by a new type
of transportation and as for the lecturers, it would save the time for them to wait for the class
to show up in the lecture and lessen the number of students who would show up late and
bother the lectures. The number of people that take the bus is high and it cannot be denied
that the maximum capacity of the bus has already been abused by the weight of the
students.
The solution that author would like to suggest for this problem is that to turn this
misfortune into a business opportunity. The business prospect that can come from this
problem is the emergence of “Nebengers”. What inspires the author to come up with the
name of “Nebengers” is an Indonesian term “Nebeng” which means sharing a ride with other
people. The core essence of this business is included in the meaning of the word
“Nebengers” itself, a business that is built on the ground of sharing rides with colleagues and
associates. The business that author purposes are to make an application that would
become a bridge to relate the customers which are the students and their drivers which are
students as well. The driver in “Nebengers” are not specified to car drivers only but also to
motorcycle riders. It would offer the chance for all students that have a private vehicle to
participate in this project and gain profit for themselves.
The major objective of this business is to make a mutual symbiosis for students in UUM
and This would also allow the students to meet new people and therefore it would enhance
and expand their social connection all over the university. The benefits of this business, in
general, is to be an answer to an issue which is the exceeded capacity of UUM buses. The
benefits that “Nebengers” offer for the drivers are not only they can make extra money for
themselves and also they can put a good use on their fuel. If in one trip they usually go alone
and waste the fuel for only one person riding the vehicle, with “Nebengers” they can
maximise their fuel utilisation and lessen environmental contamination.
3. Process and Idea Creation
3.1 Business ground
Author wants to open this business based on a common interest of the customers and
the drivers beside that, the author is really concerned about the comfort of every customer,
therefore, author wants to make this opportunity as a manifestation of customers problem
and came up with a solution.
3.2 Market Segmentation
“Nebengers” will segment its market into UUM students and author hopes it can reach
not only the students but also the society nearby. With UUM students as potential market
author hopes the potential customers will felt comfortable to ride with “Nebengers”
3.3 Application System
“Nebengers” will be an application that use mobile device location to pick up customers
and the customers can put their destination on the app. The driver will be given a brief
explanation on how the application work and seminar on how to treat the customer. With the
Islamic culture in society, author felt it would be a great thing if the customers and the drivers
directly put on the same gender.
3.4 Recruitment
The recruitment mechanism of “Nebengers” is that the form to apply as a driver would be
available in every dormitory and for each dorm would get a different day for the interview.
The author wants to make the drivers as a family that would bonding and unite.
3.5 Advertising
“Nebengers” will place an advertisement on social media like newseed on facebook and
advertisement in every board on campus, therefore, students will know the app and
download it
3.6 Profit placement
Every driver who finished to their destination will get paid by customers via cash and the
calculating of the distance is 500M for 1 RM. For every week there will be a meeting to
calculate the allocation of profit that consists of 75% for the driver and 25% for the
administrator.
CONCLUSION

Transportation will always innovate in many ways from time to time. The transportation
itself will be created differently and uniquely with the only reason to satisfied people for
getting into one place to another. As the transportation get change by globalisation people
will realise how important their time to be used efficiently and for every time they have waste
in public transportation they should take it as an enjoyment because the excitement will
always be in the journey, not the destination.
Author feel that “Nebengers” will be successful in UUM and it will give a big impact, not
only on the type of public transportation but in the heart of UUM students that fully contribute
for the successful of “Nebengers”.
