This socratic seminar bene ted me by showing me a few
differences in opinion. Though I am still strong in my belief
that it was the fault of Lord Capulet and Lady Capulet, I can
easily see where other people are coming from with their
ideas.
Rylie Causey: Re ection
The socratic seminar that we did today helped me because I
took in more information from my peers than I did when
actually watched the play. I am pretty con dent now that I
know who is to blame.
Lord Capulet- Hannah Wellons
This was bene cial because it helped me open up to new
partners and I was able to work quickly.
Amelia Blackman - Re ection
I believe that doing a Socratic Seminar was good to
experience. I think that the discussion between all of us was a
good experience for us as students because it teaches us how
to have a discussion amongst ourselves. Being able to see all of
the different points of views on the subject was very good for
us to be able to understand and see the different viewpoints.
Sara Castello- re ection
The bene ts of the Socratic Seminar were that I was able to
learn other people's opinions and how to have a statement to
react to it. It also gave me more detailed analysis of the story,
which would allow me to think through a different point of
view.
Linda Huang: Re ection
The Socratic Seminar bene ted me because it gave me
opposing ideas that I did not think about and let me have a
bigger mind in who was to blame.
Hannah Moore- Re ection
the bene t of having this sacratic semenar was that it allowed
all of us to have a discussion about the topic without yelling or
anything chaotic. we also were able to potentially change the
minds of our peers. being able to prepare and have this
controlled was very helpful
Socratic Seminar- Lily
This helped me make the correct decision on who is to blame.
And changed my mind about who is to blame and why. It
helped me make key points about why they are to blame.
John Anderson- Re ection
The socratic sminar changed my whole outlook on who's fault
it was for the death of Romeo and Juliet. Before the debate, I
thought it was Friar Laurence's fault but after listening to my
peers, I changed my mind and my opinion. I believe it is Lord
Capulet's fault because of his cruelty to Juliet about who she
loves.
Hannah Moore- lord capulet
i say this because lord capulet was so aginst juliet marrying
romeo and this caused her to have no one to turn to , not even
her family. so she turned the the option most would and tried
to handle it without them by going to lawrence and getting
the potion to stage a big dramatic death and bring her and
romeo together, however clearly this didnt workout in the
end.
JarQ- Juliet
I beliveve that juliet is to blame for both of theur deaths
because she decided to fake her own death and ¨die¨ knowing
that Romeo cared about her so much and wanted to be with
hr no matter if they were dead or alive, he wanted to be with
her. If Juliet would have asured that the message go to romeo
before she did that crazy thing of hers their little scheme
would have had a higher precentage of working and allowing
them to follow through.
Will Hardee- The Capulets
I believe that the Capulets are to blame because they forced
their daughter Juliet to marry someone that she was not in
love with, therefore she went to Lawrence to get some kind of
juice to make her look dead. The juice back red and then
Romeo killed himself as a result of the death of Juliet. This
Seminar was very helpful because I got to hear the opinions of
my class mates.

My mind changed very drastically because of the points that
were made about lord capulet. One being that he insisted that
juliet marry Paris. One being his strong temper towards Juliet.
Lord Capulet-John Anderson
At rst, my opinion was that it was Friar Laurence to blame
but that changed after this debate. Lord Capulet made Juliet
marry Paris so she tried to pull a stunt by asking for the potion
that would make her go to sleep and wake up after many
hours. If Lord Capulet would not have forced Juliet to do this,
knowing how much she loved Romeo, this would have never
happened.
Lord Capulet- Hannah Wellons
I believe that it was Lord Capulet because he went behind
Juliet's back to throw a party so that Juliet could marry Paris.
When he told her about the marriage proposal and she said no
he was consistent and forceful in the marriage. At one point
her even got abusive and yelled at her that he was pretty
much disowning her. This pushed Juliet away from her family
and made her feel like she had nowhere to turn except
towards romeo. It also made her make irrational decisions and
when she realized Romeo was dead she felt like she had
nothing else to live for anymore because even her family didn't
accept her, so she in turn ended her own life to be with him. I
didn't change my mind, the whole time i just got new
information that better supported my argument.
Jada Wick - Tybalt
I believe that it is Tybalt's fault due to him picking a ght with
Romeo and his friend, even after Capulet defended Romeo.
Romeo did not wish to kill Tybalt, and offered peace, yet
Tybalt kept on, and eventually killed Romeo's friend/family.
When you lose someone close to you, you begin to have a
want for revenge, and you grieve, which I think one of my
classmates did a good job of pointing out. Romeo was just
defending himself. The start of this ght led to a spiral of
crazy events, then to the two lover's doom. I stuck with my
original thought throughout the argument, though my
perspective was widely broadened and I now have a more
open mind when seeing other views.
Tinley Reynolds- Tybalt
Nothing changed my mind but good points were made fo the
others but if Tybalt had just let Romeo and Juliet be then none
of the family members would die as well as con ict being
resolved. Also if Tybalt had not killed the montague then
Romeo would not have wanted revenge on Tybalt. But also
lord capulet was okay with having Romeo he believed he was a
professional and athletic ghter and person of the Montague
family. 
Re ection- The bene ts of the SS were to give me good
counter claims against different characters as well as present
challenging ideas to others that open up my mind. The SS
taught me to open my mind in different perspectives instead
of thinking just one person
Bradley Alford - Romeo
I believe that Romeo is to blame because throughout the
entire story he is immature and sel sh. For example, when he
goes to the party, he does not regard the consequences that
may play out showing immaturity, as well as he stays as the
party far longer that he was supposed to. He also pushes his
and Juliet's relationship far too quickly. He kisses her for the
rst time when they only spoke for the rst time 14 lines back.
I bene ted from this Socratic Seminar because it helped me
see the evidence for many others points of view. I see that
almost everyone is the story is somewhat responsible through
everyone talking.
TytiAnna Dozier-The Hostile Families
The reason I say that it was both the Capulets and Montague
family because at the ending of Romeo and Juliet it was said
that they sacri ced their selves because of the hate the
families have toward each other and without this enmity their
deaths could have been avoided and also tensions got higher
when Tybalt and Mercutio were ghting each other because
Tybalt killed Mercutio and that caused Romeo to get in an
emotional state driving him to kill Mercutio. Which was all
caused because of the families tension toward each other. This
SS kinda helped my point out a little more by giving me more
evidence.
 
Amelia Blackman - Tybalt
I believe that Tybalt is the one to blame because he was the
one that made the decision to be stubborn. Through many
lines of the story, Romeo never wanted to kill Tybalt. After
marrying Juliet, he never wanted to kill Tybalt because Tybalt
was his family, yet Tybalt ended up killing Mercutio. This
would give Romeo a reason to ght back due to the fact that
someone of his family was murdered. Tybalt was the one that
was being immensely stubborn. My mind stayed the same
throughout most of the discussion, though I did consider
some times that Lord Capulet may have been to blame.
John Floyd-The Entire Group of Capulet
I believe it is all of Capulet that is to blame. Lord Capulet did
indeed push Juliet to the point of wanting to kill herself and
make a plan to run away but Lady Capulet did the same. She
even asked Juliet if she wanted to marry and Juliet said no. She
ignored this and kept pushing it on her and also stressed her
out to the point of wanting to just run away. In the end
Capulet learned that he was being to hard on Julietand even
made up with the Montague group after seeing what the
arguing could cause.
Honestly this seminar was stressful at times for me but I feel
like i could write two essays. It helps you see others evidence
for the same idea you have and allows you to get an even
deeper thinking of the topic. It also allows us to kind of share
our separate ideas and really show what thought process we
have to other people.  knew the consequences of killing Tybalt because he was part
Callie Prince- Tybalt
My opinion did not change because Romeo did not want to kill
Tybalt but Tybalt killed Mercutio which is why Romeo killed
Tybalt. Romeo killing Tybalt for killing Mercutio is the reason
as to why Romeo was exiled. This wouldn't have been the
families fault because they were raised to hate each other they
didn't know any better. R&J wouldn't have been Friar
Lawrence's fault because all he did was try to help his son
gure be happy with the girl he loved. This wouldn't have been
Romeo and Juliet's fault because all they did was follow their
feelings. The Socratic Seminar was bene cial because it gave
me other people's viewpoints and allowed me to
understand why they believed as they did.
Sara castello - Romeo is to blame
Romeo was to fault because he is the one who kept the ght
going and killed Tybalt. This would fo then caused him to get
exiled and be away from Juliet. Juliet would then go on to
drink the poison and fake her death. Romeo would then not
get the message and kill himself, leading to Juliet's death.
Another reason would be that Romeo was pushing their
relationship because he is the one who wanted to marry Juliet
quickly, which caused people in the two houses to have an
unexpected reaction, Since the two did not know how to act
with love, they followed the wrong paths and both died as a
result.
Madelyn-Tybalt
After reading the play and watching Romeo and Juliet, I
believe Tybalt is to blame for the tragedies that occured
because he continued to ignite a ame within the feuding
families. Tybalt even challenged romeo to a battle just for
going to the masquerade and spending a small amount of time
with juliet. Tybalt knew when challenging romeo that he
himself had never lost a ght and truly believed he would kill
romeo in the end. He even told his friends and family to not
interfere with the ght. If tybalt wouldn't have struck when he
knew mercutio was defenseless both tybalt and mercutio
would be alive. As well as Romeo wouldn't have been exiled
giving romeo and juliet a better chance at love.
Linda Huang: Romeo
I believe Romeo is to blame because after Tybalt killed
Mercutio, after Mercutio drew his sword rst, Romeo seeked
revenge, he did not have to go out and kill Tybalt after he
of a rival family. Romeo also was quite forceful when wanted
Juliet because Juliet did not catch sight of him, then Romeo
came up and made his effort and made his effort in kissing her
and marrying her.
Tessa Hatchell - Tybalt
I believe it is Tybalt's fault because at the beginning in Act 1,
Scene 5, Lines 52-90, the Capulet argues with Tybalt about
how he should calm down and leave Romeo alone. Tybalt
believes that Romeo came to the party to make fun of them,
not knowing the real reason behind him being there. This
causes Tybalt to be increasingly mad, and the Capulet has to
calm him down. After a few lines of bickering between the
two, Tybalt states that he will restrain himself ,but, he is
shaking in anger. This is the beginning of the hatred towards
Romeo and the initial "start" of a potential ght which does
proceed to happen in the next act(s). This does not help the
tension between the Montague's and Capulet's. While some
may state that it was the Lord Capulet's (Juliet's father) fault
for in uencing Juliet's mind about whom she should marry, it's
best to nd the underlying cause of everything at the start of
the playwright, which traces back to Tybalt and Capulet's
arguement. To re ect on the Socratic Seminar, my viewpoints
have been broadend and it has told me that there is potential
for other characters to be at fault, such as the parents, Romeo,
and Juliet. My classmates provided detailed evidence of their
viewpoints and now I'm more open to those ideas.
Bree- Juliet's Parents
I think it was Juliet's parents are to blame for the death of
Romeo and Juliet. It can easily be seen that the Capulet family
are making a huge deal about Juliet's marriage. They believe
that she should be honored that her parents have found her
such a wonderful man to marry- as he is also of Royal blood.
However, since Juliet does not want to marry paris, because
she loves Romeo, her father thinks she is being ungreatful. He
gets very angry and heated with her, even telling her to go
hang or die in the streets. He makes it easily known that she
will be disowned if she does not marry paris. This puts Juliet in
a con ict of having to choose between the man she loves and
the family who's raised her, which is obviously not an easy
choice. Because of how angry and upset she sees her father
getting with her, she decides that she has to nd a way out of
this situation. Then, she goes to Friar Lawrence and requests a
potion that will assist her in faking her death. Ultimately, Juliet
was stuck in the space between a rock and a hard place
already, then, when her father got so heated with her, it raised
the tension and intensity of the situation.
Romeo thought that the only option for him was to die, but all
of the confusion branched from the argument that Lord
Capulet started, so therefore, Lord Capulet is to blame.
Abby VanDeusen - Juliet's Parents
I believe that Juliet's parents are solely to blame for the death
of their daughter. I say this because throughout the whole
conversation, pretty much every idea came back to the way
her parents acted and how harsh they were on her at all times.
She was so young and had never thought about marriage until
her mother brought it up, so therefore she wouldn't have ever
even began thinking about it if her mother wouldn't have been
so pushy towards it.
Catherine
I believe Juliet is to blame because even though Friar
Lawrence was the one to suggest the potion she was the one
who decided to drink it. If Juliet would not have drunk the
potion then Romeo would not be informed that she had "died"
and when he came to see her he drank the potion to actually
die.
Elijah Baxter- Tybalt is to Blame
After watching the lm and reading the play of Romeo and
Juliet, I think Tybalt is the one to blame. Tybalt is the one to
blame because when the family feud between the Capulets
and the Montagues occured it caused the rage and hatred for
Tybalt towards Romeo. When Tybalt gained all his anger for
Romeo which caused him to kill Mercutio. When Tybalt killed
Mercutio, Romeo tried to prevent this occurrence which could
have kept Tybalt and Mercutio alive. If Tybalt didn't have so
much hatred it would prevent the grief of both families and
would leave Romeo and Juliet alive.

Bentley Cribb - Tybalt

Rylie Causey: Lord Capulet I believe that Tybalt is to blame because he is the one who
started the battle between Romeo and himself because of
I believe that Lord Capulet is to blame because, even though
Romeo's love for Juliet. If Tybalt wouldn't have started the

and Romeo is because, if the argument did not happen, Juliet
Lawrence gave to her to get Romeo back, and then Romeo
would not have to choose between her family and Romeo.

Friar Laurence- Mary Mitchell Dingle
Friar Laurence is the person to blame because he gave Juliet
the vial, if he did not even bring up the vial Juliet would live,
but she would live with Paris as his wife. When Juliet drank the
vial everyone thought she was dead so they set her in the
tomb with her dead cousin, Tabalt, when Romeo came and
saw his lover on the pedestal he took out the poison that he
got from the apothecary and drank it but not before giving his
lover one last kiss, the kiss woke her up, Juliet had to watch
her lover die in front of her. After Romeo died Juliet took
Romeo's dagger from his belt and stabbed herself, killing
herself.  of her parent's reaction if she refused to marry paris and they
Tybalt
Tybalt is to blame because if Tybalt didn't kill Mercuito,
Romeo wouldn't have to avenge Mercuito's death and Romeo
wouldn't have to leave Verona and leave Juliet alone and
worried.

My'Angel Johnson ~ Lady Capulet
Lady Capulet is partially to blame for Romeo and Juliet's death
because she pushed marriage on Juliet at an early age when
the thought had not even crossed her mind. She also
requested that juliet marry a man that she barely knew and in
such short notice.

The parents are to blame because of how harsh they are on
Juliet and the feud caused the parents make sure she marries
a capulet and not a montague. Friar laurence is some to blame
because he prompted Juliet to take this potion and if he didn't
do this them this wouldn't of happened.

Romeo angered tybalt by falling in love with Juliet and when
tybalt killed mercutio Romeo let his rage and anger overtake
him and avenged mercutio by killing tybalt when he could
have left it to the prince to execute tyballt and romeo wouldn't
have been exiled and him and juliet could be together all the

Capulet and Lady Capulet are to blame because they were
very strict on Juliet. They were forcing her into marriage with
Paris. When Juliet tried to confront her father he got angry
and slapped her this scared Juliet and let her to do anything
and everything to prevent the marriage with Paris.

If Juliets family weren't forcing her to do things and using
intimidation then Juliet might have had the con dence to run
away with Romeo but instead she took the potion out of fear

Because he gave Juliet the idea and he did not tell her about
the risks of going through with the plan.
The Prince - Campbell
The Prince is to blame because the feud between the Capulets
and Montagues causes all the anger. Tybalt would have never
been angry and cause a ght leading to two deaths. Romeo
would have never had to leave Vorana. The Prince does
nothing about all this anger and he lets it build up and explode
leading to the deaths of many people.  My mind changed from
believing that Tybalt was the cause but now I see that it is the
Princes fault. My mind changed because he was the man in
charge of Vorana and therefore the peoples feud.
Romeo!- P Brown
Romeo is de nitely the person to blame, as he is the one who
crashed the ball and started the drama in the rst place. 
Juliet ( Isla Kirton)
Juliet is to blame because if she did not drink the vile Romeo
would not have drunk the potion. It was Juliet's choice to
drink the potion. Though Friar Lawrence in uenced her to
drink the potion she could have said no and none of this would
have happened. It all falls back onto Juliet and her drinking
what was n the vile.
Anna Grace Hunter-The Capulets
I think that the Capulets are to blame because they were the
ones who were in the fued, not the children. Along with that, if
the Capulet parents would not have arranged the marrige and
forced Juliet into the marrige, she would not have drank the
vile to make her appear dead, which lead to the deaths of both
Romeo and Juliet

would never of had an arranged marriage and she wouldn't
have to fake her death, ending with her and Romeo's death

I would say its the prince's fault because if he had simply but
down the feud between the Montagues and Capulets then
there would be no ghts between any characters, and if
Romeo and Juliet aren't in separate houses then maybe they
could get married

I believe Lady Capulet is to blame because she suggested

marriage at the very beginning, before that thought was ever
in Juliet's mind. If this suggestion was never made, Juliet
