working principle – Example drives
retrofit box

▪ Retrofit Box collects data on a machine, for example

acceleration (x,y,z), temperature, magnetic field, ….
▪ The date is transferred to a Gateway using endiio wireless Gateway Shark
protocol. Data is collected analysed and forwarded to a
central IIoT condition monitoring portal using Ethernet,
GSM or LORA
▪ All data can be analysed or processed using the cloud
condition monitoring portal or existing CM Systems
(Modbus TCP, OPC OA)
▪ A alternative local software endiio shark can access data
within the local LAN without the need of connection over
Cloud
the internet

broadcasting or defined duty cycles

26/04/2019 endiio GmbH - Markus Dorn 23

Wake Up
Building up a secure communication for sensor networks
Standard Communication endiio wake-up with fingerprint
Broadcast

random

Threat – Broadcast information ▪ No broadcasting of information

▪ No defined or regular cycles
Cycle ▪ Communication triggered by wake-
up including high encryption
▪ Random wake-up periods provides
t communication signature and is
hard to imitate

Threat – known cycles

26/04/2019 endiio GmbH - Markus Dorn 24
endiio Wake-Up
Building an adaptable sensor network - Problems

▪ Configuration of sensor networks should be adaptable

▪ Low Power Sensor networks cant be changed individually in
real-time
▪ Long lifetime equals to long cycles, therefore not usable for
real-time critical applications
