Artistic Statement
My artwork is about stray animals in my city. In my
artwork there are pictures of stray cats that are being fed
leftover food as a symbol of hunger problems in the world.
The elements are the shape and form of the environment
the cats are living in. The color of the cats also vary and
the texture of their fur. The Principles in my images are
the pattern of their fur, the portion/scale of the cats, and
the emphasis on the object, being the cats.
My artwork was created by taking random photos
of the cats in interesting moments. I used a Cannon
camera provided by my photography class to take these
images. The tools I used were food chunks and the
techniques I used were that I tried to take close-up shots
and rule of thirds to focus on the emphasis of my artwork.
The big idea behind my artwork is that stray
animals are a serious problem. My artwork was inspired
by previous experiences of feeding starving animals and
treating a pregnant cat, as well as nurturing its kittens My
artwork expresses a personal issue because it is
devastating to see an unattended animal slowly dying of
starvation, disease, or disgustingly filthy. The emotions I
am attempting to convey are empathetic sadness because
I want people to be aware of the disastrous problem in our
community.
The goals I have for this artwork is to be able to
persuade to take action. My goals as an artist are to help
people comprehend the reality of an underrated unsolved
dilemma in our society. My piece helped me reach my
goals because I became more aware and concerned
about my topic.

My overall thoughts on my artwork are that I did a great
job at capturing the cat images while they were hungry.
This really helped me get my point across and express
my true emotions toward the really and sadness of stray
animals. Something I learned was that it is easier to be a
homeless than a stray animal because there is no way to
buy warm special food. As a future journalist, I will work
on fixing problems like these.

Biography
Arlette Paola Mares Bustos was born
on May 18, 2002 in the city of Lynwood
California at St. Francis Hospital. Her first
experience in Photography was when she
visited Europe in the summer of July 2017.
Arlette has an interest in Photography
because she believes that just like
Journalism, there is a variety of methods to
capture the audience's attention and become
aware of the environment we live in.
The topic of her choice is Stray
Animals, the reason why this topic was
chosen is because there is a problem in the
City of Maywood California with unwanted
animals wandering in neighborhoods. Most
of these strays were abandoned, abused or
escaped their homes.
As a photographer Arlette has learned
that human nature has positive and negative
aspects in life that can be be captured in
certain moments that can express a topic.
