ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS

QUESTION 1
Figure 1.0 below shows the riders jump off the slope at 30°, from a height of 1m. During the
race, it was observed that the rider remained in the air for 1.5 seconds.
a) Determine the speed at which he was traveling off the slope
b) Determine the horizontal distance he travels before striking the ground
c) Determine the maximum height the rider attains
Neglect the size of the bike and rider.
(10 marks)

QUESTION 2
Figure 2.0 below shows the v-t graph of a traveling car.
a) Plot/draft the a-t graph
b) Determine the average speed
c) Determine the distance traveled for 30 second
(10 marks)
QUESTION 3
Figure 3.0 below shows a dependent motion of the pulley system with block A has a speed of 18
m/s upslope.
a) By sketching the Free Body Diagram (FBD) of displacement and direction of velocity,
determine the speed of block B and also its direction (downslope or upslope?)
b) Sketch the velocity triangle diagram that consists of velocity B (VB), velocity A (VA) and
relative velocity A with respect to B (VA/B)
c) Determine the relative velocity A with respect to B (VA/B) in term of vector, magnitude and
also its direction (θ).

QUESTION 4
Figure 4.0 below shows a car travels along the curve having a radius of 300 m. If its speed is
uniformly increased from 15 m/s to 27 m/s in 3 seconds.
 Determine the magnitude of its acceleration at the instant its speed is 20 m/s

QUESTION 5
Figure 5.0 below shows at this instant the water sprinkler is rotating with an angular speed of 𝜃̇ =
2 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 and also the angular acceleration 𝜃̈ = 3 𝑟𝑎𝑑/𝑠 2. If the nozzle lies in the vertical plane water
is flowing through it at a constant speed rate of 𝑟̇ = 3 𝑚/𝑠.
a) Determine the magnitudes of the velocity of a water particle as it exits, the open end,
r=0.2m
b) Determine the magnitudes of the acceleration of a water particle as it exits, the open end,
r=0.2 m
