Problem of Segregation

I'm against segregation because it’s a major problem and it affects people I

know, family, and numerous of people. We try and try, yet it comes back. We should

avoid segregation because of numerous problems, problems which can be easy to fix and

some which can be difficult, but we can fix it and try everything we can to not bring it

back.

We have to put a conclusion to segregation. Although de facto segregation may

cause a distinction in ways of life and education, it is a problem that needs to be

addressed in light of the fact that few out of every odd family can bear the cost of a lovely

home or give their youngsters decent instruction dependent on where they live. Since

many articles show that racial separation is on its upsurge, segregation should be

considered a fat issue towards the people who can't pay for good education because

without a good education you're most likely not going to succeed in life and you won't be

treated like the rich. Segregation should only be considered a major issue when it ends

up to the absence of a good education, since everybody ought to be viewed as equivalent

and ought to approach similar training as every other person no matter the race. Since
2

the Civil war, isolation has been an issue in the absence of education dependent on your

race or where you live.

Moreover, hispanics and blacks have a drawback of education. According to

Walter, one of the statistics tracts that about 85 percent of its undergraduates are

African American and Hispanic, and about 86 percent are broke enough to fit for free or

decreased price lunches. “The 400 students have limited creative outlets, and have no

orchestra or band and just two music teachers.” Having your education this poor can

affect you throughout your whole life because it can come down to you not being able to

achieve your dreams possibly not being able to get your dream job and having a job that

doesn't pay well, which can really screw you up if you can't pay for your home and food

to feed your family. Having your education this poor can also lead you to making poor

choices which can affect you throughout your life. “When the National Assesment of

educational Progress began in the early 1970s, there was a 53-point gap in reading

scores between black and white 17-year-olds.” America can put an end to segregation if

they tried. They've tried, but they have failed attempting. At last one of the major

problems in America is that isolation keeps on returning. We try and try to avoid it, but

it keeps coming back. In the article “America Is More Diverse than Ever--but Still

Segregated” William explains, “The separation of different racial and ethnic groups into

separate social worlds means that members of different lived experiences.”

To start, one of many of the greatest issue when we talk about segregation is the

academic and luxury gap. Not having indistinguishable chances and schools from how

white Americans, working class individuals do contrasted with the blacks is a massive
3

gap. To demonstrate the absence of black people in the middle class, “white Americans

are more likely to live in neighborhoods with rising home values (and thus, family

equity) while there middle class black counterparts are more likely to rent, or live in

neighborhoods with stagnant values.” stated the article “America is more Diverse than

Ever-but Still Segregated”. With the non appearance of blacks in the working class

suggests that isolation starts to appear and has practically zero contact with whites.

Another big issue of segregation is discrimination. Discrimination could be a

major problem because it can be possible that you don't get accepted to a job or school

because the way you look whether it be depending on your race or how filthy you look.

They try to fix this discrimination issue in the article “The Trouble With Diversity” it

indicates, “It was saying instead that universities had a legitimate interest in taking race

into account in exactly the same way they had a legitimate interest in taking into

account what part of the country an applicant came from or what his or her non

academic interests were.” I am so glad to be hearing that universities are doing this, but

we must prevent this from ever becoming an issue again for universities. The issue of

inequality has always and will always be a problem that we need to face since it seems to

increase. For example, in the article “The Trouble With Diversity” it states that the

Economists, “have seen a huge increase of inequality in America.” I’m not sure how this

issue can be solved, but we should try and stop this inequality from increasing, but most

of this inequality comes from the rich and the poor. In this same article it indicates that

the rich people are different from the poor people because the rich keeps gaining there

wealth while the poor don’t. The only way I can think of fixing this issue is that the poor
4

start having a rich mindset and have the interest of trying to get money, but the article

“The Trouble With Diversity” makes it sound like this issue can be solved. Look at this

quote of the passage. “The rich are different from you and me, and one of the ways

they’re different is that they’re getting richer and we’re not.”

Mandatory busing was a good policy due to the schools being non-diverse.

Schools tried fixing this issue with mandatory busing to get their schools more diverse.

They needed to be more interracial. A lot of students were involved with the program.

About 12,000 students were involved in this program, but most of the white students

were bused first. There were some bad benefits, but some good. One of the bad benefits

was that white families feared that they were going to receive worse education. On this

article on paragraph 15 it states that, one of the biggest terror of the white families is

that they'll receive worse education from what they normally would get. This was a bad

benefit because it can turn out to make white people go against this program. A good

benefit is that some kids get much better confidence in socializing with diverse groups of

adults. On paragraph 17 it indicates, “kids who attended integrated schools in the 1970s,

80s, 90s report greater confidence in interacting with diverse groups of adults.” It also

shows that the kids show more noteworthy readiness to discuss dubious themes

crosswise over racial lines. I think this is great because it's always great to socialize and

not letting segregation separate them from socializing.

I'm glad seeing that we try to end segregation and avoid it,but it keeps coming

back. We need to somehow put an end to this because we need to be interracial and have

more diversity. Segregation needs to be stopped, if not just think of the lives you can
5

mess up if they cant get good education. We look at the poor and think wow they’re

going to get no where, but that's not true. They can get somewhere and have a great

career. I had a friend that came from a really poor hispanic family, but he was the

smartest in the school thanks to the diversity of our school he got his good education

and took advanced classes. If only every school was like this.
