In general, providing a minimum fire-resistance period of 2 hours is considered

enough for steel structures in typical oil and petrochemical industry facilities. For
electric cables, lines of instrumentation signals, actuators of remote valves that
are part of depressurization systems, and blocking or emergency shutdown of
equipment in a facility, this period shall not be less than 20 minutes at a minimum
temperature of 1,000 °C, which may increase depending on the time used to take
the affected equipment to safe operating conditions. In case fire resistant cables
are applied, fire resistant rating shall be 90 min. according to IEC60331 of which
test method is with 750°C.

4. STRUCTURES AND EQUIPMENT TO BE PROTECTED

4.1. Support Structures of Process Equipment

4.1.1. Protection Criteria
Steel structures used as support for process equipment such as towers, vessels,
will be protected with fireproofing according to the provisions of Section 5.2 and
when one of the following conditions exists:
a. Equipment contains more than 2,000 kg (4,400 lb) of flammable or combustible
products.
b. The arrangement consists of two (2) or more equipment, which together
contains more than 2,000 kg (4,400 lb) of flammable or combustible products.
c. The total weight of equipment containing flammable or combustible products,
including contents, is more than 10,000 kg (22,000 lb).
d. Steel elements or structural supports that support non-fire potential equipment
could result substantial damage to nearby fire potential equipment shall be
fireproofed up to a height of 9.0 m (30ft), if the structures are located in FHZ.
e. Equipment is fire potential equipment specified in 3.1.
