b. Give some advantages in using technology.
c. Give some disadvantages in using technology.

C. Presenting Examples/instances of new lesson

 showing video clips about input devices

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #1

Guide questions about the video:

a. What is an input device?
b. How does an input device work?
c. Give examples of input devices.

E. Analysis/Discussion

Input Devices – accepts data and instructions from the user or from another computer
system.
- are devices that provide information and data to the computer.

Two (2) Types of Input Devices

1. Keyboard Entry – data is inputted to the computer through a keyboard.

Example:
Keyboard – it is used for typing letters, numbers and numbers along with some special
characters.

2. Direct Entry – a form of input that does not require data to be keyed by someone sitting at a
keyboard.

Three Categories of Direct Entry Devices

1. Pointing Devices – an input device used to move the pointer on screen.
 Mouse – allows the user to position the cursor, draw and execute program functions by clicking.
 Touch screen – a display screen that is sensitive to the touch of a finger of stylus.
 Light pen – is used to draw any figure directly on the computer screen.
 Digitizer tablet - also called as a “graphics tablet”, is a tool used to convert hand-drawn images
into a format suitable for computer processing. Images are usually drawn onto a flat surface
with a stylus and then appear on a computer monitor or screen.

2. Scanning Devices – a device can read text or an illustration printed on paper and translates the
information into a form the computer can use.
 Image scanner
 Barcode reader
 Biometric devices
 Magnetic Ink Character Reader (MICR)
 Optical Mark Reader (OMR)

3. Voice – input Devices – audio input devices also known as speech or voice recognition systems
that allow a user to send audio signals to a computer for processing, recording, or carrying out
commands.
 Microphone
F. Developing Mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment)

 Power Point Presentation (ICT integration)

 Game – like (the class is divided into 8 groups) presenting, the students will identify the
different input devices.
 Each group will choose one (1) representative to answer.
 Each correct answer will get one (1) point.

G. Finding Practical Applications of concepts and skills

 Cooperative Learning
 The students are group into 8. Each group should choose at least two (2)
representatives.
 The teacher will select an input device where the student connects it to the port of
the system unit.
 Every group are only given 10 seconds to connect.
 Every correct connection will get one (1) point.

H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

Guide questions:
 What is an input device?
 How many Categories of Direct Entry Devices?
 Can you enumerate them?
 Give at least 3 input devices.
 What are the functions of the different input devices?

I. Evaluating Learning

Identify the following devices according to its category:

Automated Teller Machine Microphone Digital Camera Fax Machine

Biometric Device Light Pen Keyboard Magnetic Ink Character Reader
Bar Code Reader Mouse Fax Machine Web Camera
Digitizer Tablet Image Scanner Track Ball Optical Mark Reader
Joystick

Pointing Devices Scanning Devices Voice-Input Devices

J. Additional Activities for Application or Remediation

 What is an output device?
 Give at least 5 examples of it.
