2. Configure Talend Runtime instances

The main exercises will involve deployment of ESB services to two different
runtime instances. We need to configure these infrastructure containers up
front.

Copy the ‘container’ folder in your ESB runtime directory e.g.

C:\Talend\Runtime_ESBSE\container.

Name the new container container_2.



5
Talend – Unlock the Power of Data

Delete the ‘data’ directory (if present) within the new container (container_2).
You should end up with a directory structure as follows:

6
Talend – Unlock the Power of Data

Create a folder for shortcuts to key Talend resources on the desktop. Add the
following shortcuts.

- C:\Talend\Studio\TOS_ESB-win-x86_64.exe
(be sure to select the appropriate exe for your platform
e.g. 32/64 bit Windows)
- C:\Talend\Runtime_ESBSE\container\bin\trun.bat
- C:\Talend\Runtime_ESBSE\container_2\bin\trun.bat

7
Talend – Unlock the Power of Data

Start the Talend Runtime in container 2 from your shortcuts

(C:\Talend\Runtime_ESBSE\container_2\bin\trun.bat)

Issue the following command in the Karaf shell to configure the second
container with a default set of ports and configuration data:

source scripts/configureC1.sh

8
Talend – Unlock the Power of Data

Output should look as follows

You might wish to customize the default properties on the Talend Runtime
(trun.bat) shortcuts such that the consoles are easier to differentiate and read
[OPTIONAL]

9

10
Talend – Unlock the Power of Data

Stop the Talend Runtime in container 2 by issuing the following command at

the karaf console:

^D

ie. <CTRL>D

Restart the Talend Runtime in container 2 from the shortcut in your desktop
folder.

11
Talend – Unlock the Power of Data

Start Talend Runtime in container 1 from the shortcut in your desktop folder.
Apply the same changes to the shortcut properties as desired.

Your Talend Runtime infrastructure is now ready for use with the exercises.

The table below outlines the port configuration deployed for containers 1 and
2. The most important port for the purposes of this exercise is the HTTP port.

Note: Talend Runtime instances can be deployed centrally or in a highly

distributed model for full federation capabilities.

User Name: talend-roadshow
Password: odic71[dumpy

Resource Description

DemoCustomer.wsdl WSDL definition of the Customer

service. It contains several (CRUD)
operations but we will be implementing
just one, ‘getCustomer’.

DemoCustomer.wsdl

Customers.csv This is a comma delimited file

representing our Customer
resource. It would typically be a
database or CRM application but to
minimize dependencies and
complexity of the workshop it is
implemented as a standalone file.

Customers.csv

Extract the embedded attachments into C:\Talend\WorkshopResources

About Talend

Talend is one of the largest pure play vendors of open source software,
offering a breadth of middleware solutions that address both data
management and application integration needs.

Since the emergence of data integration and data quality tools in the 1990s,
and the more recent appearance of Master Data Management solutions, the
data management market has been dominated by a small - and quickly
consolidating - number of traditional vendors offering proprietary, closed
solutions, which only the largest and wealthiest organizations can afford. The
situation in the application integration space is quite similar, with significant
consolidation occurring as well. As a result, only a minority of organizations
uses commercial solutions to meet their data management and application
integration needs. Indeed, these solutions not only demand a steep initial
investment, but they also often require significant resources to manage
implementation and ongoing operation.
