LESSON PLAN IN INTRODUCTION TO WORLD RELIGIONS AND BELIEF SYSTEMS


(Grade 11 & 12)
June 3-7, 2019

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates understanding of belief system or worldview*, Religion,
Spirituality, Philosophy of Religion, and Theology.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD: The learner prepares character sketches of a person who is spiritual but not religious
and a person who is religious but not spiritual.
LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
1. Give an example of a belief system or a worldview.

2. Differentiate between religion as humans’ way to God, theology as a study of God’s way to humans
and philosophy as a reflection of humans’ lived experience of God.

3. Prepare character sketches of a person who is spiritual but not religious and a person who is religious
but not spiritual.
(HUMSS_WRB12- I/IIIa-1.4)

I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. provide correctly examples of a belief system or a worldview through think-pair-share
b. differentiate correctly religion as humans’ way to God, theology as a study of God’s way to
humans and philosophy as a reflection of humans’ lived experience of God through group
presentation
c. draw a character sketch of a person who is spiritual but not religious and a person who is
religious but not spiritual through though group collaboration
d. identify the different kinds of belief systems or worldviews through graffiti

Topic: Understanding the Nature of Religion
Origin of World Religions

Reference: Introduction to World Religions & Belief Systems

Resources: Laptop, Manila Paper, paper and pentel pen

1. Activity
June 3, 2019
 The students will be given a time to brainstorm their ideas through think-pair-share about
the question, “Why do we need to study religion?”
This activity will stimulate the ideas of the student to what is/are really the reasons behind
the need to study religion.

June 4, 2019
The students will be grouped into 3. Each of the group has a statement to elaborate.
Gr. 1: Religion as humans’ way to God
Gr. 2: Theology as a study of God’s way to humans
Gr. 3: Philosophy as a reflection of humans’ lived experience of God

June 6, 2019
The students will draw a character sketch of a person who is spiritual but not religious and a
person who is religious but not spiritual through though group collaboration.

June 7, 2019
The students will be given a pen and manila paper. What they’ll going to do is to write or draw
an image/symbol based from the question/statement provided.

2. Analysis
Basic Questions after the activity:

The students will answer the following questions based on the activity.
How did you find the activity?
What were you thinking doing the activity?
What helps you to come up with an answer?
What strategy did you use to succeed in the game?

2. How religion affects cultural influence?
3. How religion affects interdisciplinary learning?

June 4, 2019
The students will read, give examples and explain the different kinds of belief system or world
views.

June 6, 2019
The students will explain their work “character sketch” in class.

June 7, 2019
The students will explain the differences of the different kinds of belief system or world views
through a Venn diagram

3. Abstraction
The students will read and discuss the information about religion. Then, they will differentiate
correctly religion as humans’ way to God, theology as a study of God’s way to humans and
philosophy as a reflection of humans’ lived experience of God through group presentation.

4. Application
Based form your own belied system, list down 5 practices and explain how does it affect you as
a person? Are you walking your belief? Why or why not?

IV. ASSESSMENT
The students will answer the given objective and subjective assessment.

V. ASSIGNMENT
The students will be prepare a presentation about the Origins of Religion. They will discuss the given
topic supported with research information and pictures.
