Install the flexible hose lock securely into the lock hole in the disc

(a) U s ing a brake drum gauge or an equivalent tool, meas ure

the ins ide diameter of the drum.

(a) U s ing a ruler, meas ure the thic knes s of the s hoe lining.

M inimum thic knes s :
1 .0 mm (0 .0 3 9 4 in.)

I f the lining thic knes s is les s than the minimum, or if there

is s evere or uneven wear, replac e the brake s hoe.

NOTICE:
Always replace both the right and left drum brake shoes
together.

4. INSPECT BRA KE DRUM A ND DRUM BRA KE SHOE LINING FOR PROPER CONTA CT

(a) A pply c halk to the ins ide s urfac e of the drum, then grind
down the brake s hoe lining to fit the drum.

I f the c ontac t between the drum and the brake s hoe lining
is improper, repair it us ing a brake s hoe grinder or replac e
the brake s hoe.

U s e a torque wrenc h with a fulc rum length of 2 5 0 mm
(9 .8 4 in.).
T his torque value is effec tive when the union nut wrenc h is
parallel to the torque wrenc h.

HINT:

Fully tighten the rear drum brake bleeder plug after bleeding any air left in the system.

of the brake s hoes . C hec k that the differenc e between the
diameters is equal to the s pec ified s hoe c learanc e.

0 .6 mm (0 .0 2 3 6 in.)

10. INSTA LL REA R BRA KE DRUM

(a) I ns tall the rear brake drum.

11. A DJUST REA R DRUM BRA KE SHOE CLEA RA NCE

(a) T emporarily ins tall the 2 wheel nuts .

 (b) Remove the s hoe adjus ting hole plug, and turn the adjus ter to expand the s hoe until the drum
loc ks .

(c ) H old the automatic adjus t lever away from the adjus ter,
and c ontrac t the brake s hoe by turning the adjus t bolt
us ing another s c rewdriver until the drum c an rotate
