If both the RH side hose and LH side hose are disconnected at the same time, be sure to place
identification marks indicating the position on each side.

INSTALLATION
NOTICE:
Bec aus e the left and right rear flexible hos es are not interc hangeable, verify the part number when
ins talling the flexible hos es .
I f the hos es are to be reus ed, c onnec t them after c hec king the identific ation marks plac ed when
eac h hos e was dis c onnec ted.

Install the clip as far as it will go.
NOTICE:

U s e a torque wrenc h with a fulc rum length of 2 5 0 mm
(9 .8 4 in.).
T his torque value is effec tive when the union nut wrenc h is
parallel to the torque wrenc h.

Install the clip as far as it will go.
(b) U s ing a union nut wrenc h (1 0 mm), c onnec t the brake line
to the rear flexible hos e while holding the rear flexible hos e
with a wrenc h.

6. REMOVE CENTER NO. 1 INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PA NEL A SSEMBLY (for A utomatic
Transaxle)
NOTICE:

(b) Remove the bolt.
HINT:
Insert an offset wrench (14 mm) at the base of the No. 3 parking
brake cable assembly as shown in the illustration to disengage the
clip. Pull out the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear
disc brake cylinder assembly.

13. SEPA RA TE REA R BRA KE FLEXIBLE HOSE
(a) Remove the union bolt and gas ket, and s eparate the rear
brake flexible hos e from the rear dis c brake c ylinder
as s embly.
(a) H old the rear dis c brake s lide pin and remove the 2 bolts
and rear dis c brake c ylinder as s embly.
15. REMOVE REA R DISC BRA KE PA D
(a) Remove the 2 dis c brake pads from the rear dis c brake

c ylinder mounting.
(a) Remove the rear dis c brake pad s upport plate (upper) and
rear dis c brake pad s upport plate (lower) from the dis c
brake c ylinder mounting.
NOTICE:
Each rear disc brake pad support plate has a different shape. Be
sure to put an identification mark on each rear disc brake pad
support plate so that it can be installed to its original
position.
18. REMOVE REA R DISC BRA KE PA D GUIDE PIN
(a) Remove the 2 rear dis c brake pad guide pins from the dis c
brake c ylinder mounting.

(a) Remove the 2 rear dis c brake bus hing dus t boots from the
rear dis c brake c ylinder mounting.
(a) Remove the 2 bolts and the rear dis c brake c ylinder
mounting from the axle beam.

2. REMOVE CYLINDER BOOT
(a) Remove the c ylinder boot from the pis ton.
(a) U s ing a s c rewdriver, remove the pis ton s eal from the rear
dis c brake c ylinder.
NOTICE:
Do not damage the inner surface or piston seal groove of the
cylinder.
HINT:
INSPECTION
1. INSPECT BRA KE CYLINDER A ND PISTON
(a) C hec k the c ylinder bore and pis ton for rus t and s c oring. I f nec es s ary, replac e the dis c brake
c ylinder and pis ton.
(a) U s ing a ruler, meas ure the pad lining thic knes s .

I f the pad lining thic knes s is equal to the minimum or les s ,
replac e the brake pads with a dis c brake pad kit.
HINT:
Be sure to check the wear of the rear disc after replacing the brake
pads with new ones.
I f the dis c thic knes s is les s than the minimum, replac e the
rear dis c .
(a) I ns pec t the rear axle hub bearing loos enes s and axle hub runout .
(b) While holding the dis c us ing SST , tighten the dis c with the
5 hub nuts .

Torque: 103 N·m (1050 kgf ·cm, 76f t·lbf )
NOTICE:
Keep the magnet of the dial indicator away from the axle hub

INSTALLATION
1. INSTA LL REA R DISC
(a) A lign the matc hmarks of the dis c and axle hub and ins tall
the dis c .
NOTICE:
When replacing the disc with a new one, select the installation
position where the rear disc has minimal runout.

2. INSTA LL REA R DISC BRA KE CYLINDER MOUNTING
(a) I ns tall the rear dis c brake c ylinder mounting to the axle
beam with the 2 bolts .
HINT:
Apply at least 0.3 g (0.01 oz.) of lithium soap base glycol grease to
each rear disc brake bushing dust boot.
(b) I ns tall the 2 rear dis c brake bus hing dus t boots to the rear
dis c brake c ylinder mounting.

NOTICE:
When replac ing worn pads , the anti- s queal s hims mus t be replac ed together with the pads .

D is c brake greas e may s eep out s lightly from the areas where the anti- s queal s hims are ins talled.
M ake s ure that dis c brake greas e is not applied onto the lining s urfac e.
(a) I ns tall the 2 rear dis c brake pads to the rear dis c brake
c ylinder mounting.
NOTICE:
There should be no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the
disc brake pads or the rear disc.
(a) T o c ompens ate for pad wear when reus ing the pad, us e
SST to pus h and turn the pis ton (L H s ide:
c ounterc loc kwis e, RH s ide: c loc kwis e) to the pos ition
where the protrus ion on the pad lines up properly with the
pis ton groove.

Place the disc between the 2 brake pads and determine the
piston return value.
(b) H old the rear dis c brake c ylinder s lide pin, and ins tall the
rear dis c brake c ylinder as s embly to the rear dis c brake
c ylinder mounting with the 2 bolts .
(a) C onnec t the flexible hos e to the rear dis c brake c ylinder
as s embly with the union bolt and a new gas ket.
HINT:
Install the flexible hose lock securely into the lock hole in the disc
brake cylinder.
10. CONNECT NO. 3 PA RKING BRA KE CA BLE A SSEMBLY

HINT:
Be sure to engage the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly clip onto
the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH as shown in the illustration.

HINT:
Fully tighten the rear disc brake bleeder plug after bleeding any air left in the system.

the entire c irc umferenc e of a new pis ton s eal.
(b) I ns tall the pis ton s eal to the dis c brake c ylinder as s embly.
NOTICE:
Securely install the piston seal to the groove of the disc brake cylinder.
(b) I ns tall the c ylinder boot to the pis ton as s hown in the illus tration.
NOTICE:
Do not install the cylinder boot after installing the piston into the disc brake cylinder.
(a) I ns tall the s eal portion of the c ylinder boot into the groove
portion of the rear dis c brake c ylinder.
NOTICE:
Securely install the cylinder boot to the groove of the rear disc
brake cylinder.
(b) U s ing SST , s c rew the pis ton to the end by turning it
c loc kwis e as far as pos s ible.

When installing the disc brake cylinder to the disc cylinder mounting,
align the piston groove with the protrusion on the brake pad.

down the brake s hoe lining to fit the drum.
I f the c ontac t between the drum and the brake s hoe lining
is improper, repair it us ing a brake s hoe grinder or replac e
the brake s hoe.
