One of the first things we added to the procurement system was checkbook functionality, in which
purchase order totals are immediately debited from budgets so that real-time balances can be
calculated. From there, procure-to-pay functionality was a logical next step, automating the purchase

Two cutting-edge technologies combine to make MarketBasket’s purchasing program faster and more

• Optical Character Recognition (OCR), a BancTec technology, reads, captures and converts paper
invoices to data images for storage and processing through MarketBasket, so no data entry is
