Teaching Activities

In this activity, the teacher buried the bones he prepared, leaving several footprints in the classroom. After
drawing attention to the children, he reads the book about the subject and waits for the children to dig up the
bones that he buried in the garden. It supports small muscle development of children through the game.

Summary

Before the children come to the class, the teacher prepares dinosaur footprints from
class to the garden (starting at the bottom of the rug in the classroom, dinosaur footprints are
adhered to the floor.) Before children come to class, the teacher prepares chairs in semi-circle.
After they enter the class, the teacher signs a song “the song of Dinosaur”. Then, after they sits
down, (the teacher has asked the parents to watch a documentary and prepare a card with the
children previous day.) The questions about documentary are asked to the children. Also,
children are asked to explain the cards they have prepared with their parents. Each child's
conservation is provided. Then, the book “Ektiğim Tohumdam Dinazor Çıktı” is shown and
read.

Before the children come to the garden, the teacher prepares bones which made of clay. S/he
puts flour, salt and water in a bowl mix well until the dough. In particular, the salt is put to
allow the dough to harden. S/he determines border to bury the bones in the garden. The teacher
starts to wander around like so curious and makes children to find dinosaur footprints. Children
attention is increased the footprints. Then, they are provided to explore them. All class follow
the footprints where placed in specific area from class to the garden. When they are moved to
the garden, teacher and children find the bones.

Then, children try to find and collect them in middle of the garden. After, all bones are found
and collected, children are asked to group them in terms of the bone’s size. Children are asked
to create dinosaur’s skeletal system which is placed on the ground and give a name for it. After
they finish, the teacher can take photos or notes. They describe its characteristics such as,
heights, wings and color. The teacher says “you worked hard to gather the bones, so now we
together sit on grass. The teacher starts assessment part by sitting in front of them. In this
section, the teacher asks the assessment questions that s/he has already identified and notes the
answer to children.

Measurement & Evaluation

Descriptive: What was the book about? What would you do if you were Baybars? What did
you do after you collect the bones?

Objectives: What did you think when you saw footprints in class? How did you group the
bones you found?

Daily life: Have you ever been dinosaur in TV or book? How?

Sensual: How would you feel if you were in Baybars? How did you feel when you collect the
bones and create skeletal system?

Homework

The teacher asks parents to watch a documentary about dinosaurs or to examine an


encyclopedia. S/he wants them to prepare the information card about the dinosaur what they
are watching and bring it to class until Friday.
