Chapter: Electricity
Q1. Which is having more resistance: A 100 W bulb or a 60 W bulb if they are connected parallel to
electric main supply?
Q2. State the law that relates current through a conductor and the potential difference between its ends.
Represent the law mathematically. Represent graphically, the variation of current I as a function of
potential difference V. What is the limitation of this law?
Q3. In the circuit diagram shown, the two resistance wires A and B are of same length and same material,
but A is thicker than B. Which ammeter A1 or A2 will indicate higher reading for current? Give
reason.

Q4. Two identical resistors, each of resistance 50 are connected (i) in series (ii) in parallel, in turn; to
a battery of 10 V. Calculate the power consumed in the combination of resistor in the two cases and
ratio of the power consumed in the combination of resistor in the two cases.
Q5. Two resistors of resistance 3 and 6 respectively are connected to a battery of 6V so as to have:
Maximum resistance and maximum current. Suggest the probable method of resistor combination
and the corresponding current that will flow through the circuit.
Q6. Which sort of connection is a preferable in house hold circuit? Give three reasons.
Q7. How many electrons will flow through a wire when the charge of 4C flows for 2 sec? Also find the
current.
Q8. A wire is cut into three equal parts and then connected in parallel with the same source. How will
it’s: (a) Resistance (b) resistivity gets affected?
(c) How would the total current and the current through the parts change?
Q9. A wire of resistance 4 Ohms is bent to form a circle. What is the resistance between two
diametrically opposite ends?
Q10. An electric heater connected to a 220V lines has two resistance coils of 22 Ohms each. Calculate the
current if these coils are used
(a) Separately (b) In series (c) In Parallel
Q11. Calculate the effective resistance between P and Q.

Q12. Three 2 resistors, A, B and C, are connected as shown in Figure. Each of them dissipates energy
and can withstand a maximum power of 18 W without melting. Find the maximum current that flow
through the three resistors.
Q13. (a)How much current will an electric bulb draw a 220V source if the bulb filament is 1200 ?
(b)How much current will an electric heater draw from a 220V source if the resistance of the heater
is 100 ?
Q14. Find out the following in the electric circuit given in Figure.
(a) Effective resistance of two 8 resistors in the combination.
(b) Current flowing through 4 resistors.
(c) Potential difference across 4 resistance.
(d) Power dissipated in 4 resistor.
(e) Difference in ammeter readings, if any.

Q15. V-I graph for two resistors is given. Which of the two has minimum resistance?
