Case Study Town;

Service type: HSPA

Event 2D(2F) Threshold Before: RSCP -63 (-65) Ec/No -6 (-8)

Event 2D(2F) Threshold After: RSCP -106 (-109) Ec/No -16 (-18)

Observations after changing the Event 2D and 2F Thresholds;

 There was a step change in the user experience with over 100% increase in DL throughputs from
2.1Mbps to 6.2Mbps
 Increase in the HSPA traffic
 Decrease in the HO attempts from 3G to 2G

Conclusion;

With the previous Event 2D and 2F Thresholds settings for HSPA the UE would always go early into
compressed mode even when in good coverage and quality which will prompt RAN to re-configure the
UEs to Single Carrier impacting DL End User Throughput negatively. The UE would also more often
handover to GSM.

After the changes the UE starts compressed mode only when the Coverage or Quality is very bad hence
being maintained in HSDPA with high throughputs
