Duties Towards a newborn baby.

1. It is an act of Sunnah to utter the Azan in the right ear and the Iqama in the left ear of a
newborn baby.

2. It is recommended to place anything sweet on the tongue of the newborn. However, it is


highly recommended as Sunnah smearing a softly chewed piece of date

3. Reciting the following Dua for the sake of parents.


(‫ورزقت بره)األذكار للنووي‬, ‫ وبلغ أشده‬,‫بارك هلل لك في الموھوب لك وشكرك الواھب‬

04. Parents May Respond to the Dua as Following


‫لك هلل بارك‬,‫ علیك وبارك‬,‫ھذا ونحو ثوابك أوأجزك مثلھ ورزقك خیرا هلل جزاك او‬

Duties towards a newborn baby on the 7th day after the it’s birth

05. Naming the child with a beautiful name. Also following instructions are to be taken into
consideration when naming the child.

01. It is desirable to name the newborn after 7 days of its birth

02. The child should be given a name with a pleasant meaning.

It is reported that Allah’s Messenger said: “On the Day of Qiyama you will be summoned by
your own names and by the names of your fathers. Therefore keep pleasant names” (Abu
Dawood)

04. It is not permissible to name the child after notorious persons who disbelieved

03. Among the best names are Abdullah and Abdhur Rahman

Allah’s Messenger (Sal) Said: “Truly the most loved of the names by Allah are Abd-Allah and
Abd-Rahamn” (Abu Dawood, Nasaii)

06. It is Permissible to call a person with a nick name (‫ )لقب‬provided it has a good meaning .
Prophet (Sal) nick named Usman (Rali) as Zun Nurain (The owner of two lights)

08. If the child dies before being named then it is best to name the child prior to its burial.
07. It is permissible for a person to be nick named by his child’s name. For instance if the
Child’s name is Muhammadh then the father may be called Abu Muhammedh (Muhammedh’s
Father)

05. It is undesirable to give a name that has a bad meaning. It is recommenced and a Sunnah to
change such a name already given.

09. If a fetus miscarriages in four months the soul (Rooh) would have been blown in to it. If so, it
is Sunnah to name the fetus prior to burial. If identifying the gender of the fetus is difficult, then
it is preferable to give a common name that does not specify a gender such as Nasreen, Farhath
etc.

06. Shaving the child’s head:

*It is recommended as Sunnah to shave the head of the child on the seventh day of birth

*It is Sunnah to weight the shaved hair and give away gold or silver Equivalent to the weight as
Sadaka.

07. Circumcision.

*It is obligatory on both male and female to circumcise.

*It is desirable to perform circumcision on the seventh day after the child’s birth. If the child is
physically unfit then the circumcision could be postponed until the child becomes fit enough.

*The compulsory removing the foreskin of the penis of a male child and removing the minimal
part of the clit of female genital.

*The Shari'a to be followed when performing circumcision: Circumcision of a male or a female


protects him/her from diseases and also prevents the accumulation and solidification of filth.

Allah Says in the Holy Quran:

“Indeed Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify
themselves’ (Surah Al Baqarah:222)

08. Performing Aqeeqah.

1. Importance of Aqeeqah

Aqeeqah is an important deed on parents towards their children. Moreover ‘it is a Sunnah that
Islam stresses onto fulfill:

Prophet (Sal) said: Every child is mortgaged by its Aqeeqah and it should be slaughtered for him
/ her on it’s seventh day and Child’s hair should be shaved and the child should be named”
“Child Mortgaged by its Aqeeqah” the Ulamas have interpreted this statement as following:

If the parent had failed to give Aqeeqah for any of their children then that Particular child will
not intercede on behalf of them on the Day of Judgment.

*It is an important Sunnah

3. Benefits of Aqeeqah

*Will be rewarded for accomplishing a Sunnah of the Prophet (Sal)


*It is an opportunity to treat and feed the poor and relatives
*Rewarded for giving charity for the sake of Almighty Allah
*Opportunity to strengthen family and social ties

4. Best days for Aqeeqah

*It is a Sunnah to perform Aqeeqah on the 7th day after the child’s birth and it is also acceptable
if given on the 14th day or 21st day after the child birth it is acceptable even if it is performed in
later day if it could not be given for financial strains etc.

*It is not permissible to perform Aqeeqah before the birth of the child

*It is desirable if the Aqeeqah is not delayed till the child reaches the age of maturity if it could
be helped.

5. Determining the 7th day of birth

*If Aqeeqah is to be given on the 7th day after child’s birth then that day should be taken into
account.

*if goats or oxen are to be slaughtered for Aqeeqah then the oxen must be older then 2 years and
goat/ sheep must be at least one year old.

* In the case of camel it should be more then five years

Note: An ox is equal to 7 goats according to Shari’a and so if Aqeeqah is to be performed with


an ox then it could given for children that are due for Aqeeqah by calculating at the rate of one
goat for a female child and two goats for a male child.

Eg: If the parents have two sons and 3 daughters for whom Aqeeqah is due, then one oxen could
be slaughtered in the place of 7 goats/sheep
Seven rules and regulation to perform Aqeeqah

*the cattle that are to be slaughtered for Aqeeqah should be free from any physical blemishes
such as being blind, cripple or deformed or sick and should not be skinny or malnourished

* Aqeeqah still could be given even if the child born dies within 7 days

*It is compulsory Sunnah on the father to give Aqeeqah to his child regardless the child being
physically fit or unfit or even mentally or physically disable

*In case of the person has more time to pay off his outstanding debt then he can perform the
Aqeeqah nevertheless.

*It is not permissible to give Aqeeqah along with Uldhiya. (?????)

If the parents have failed to give Aqeeqah, it is permissible for the child to give his /her own
Aqeeqah when he / she grows up. In the case of a female for whom Aqeeqah is due, her husband
may perform it if he wishes so.

*If a fetus is born at the state of its soul breathed into it then it is Sunnah to give Aqeeqah for it.

Allah’s Messenger (Sal) said that a human being is put together in the womb of the mother in 40
days and then becomes a clot of thick blood for a similar span of time. Then Allah sends an angel
to blow the soul into him/her. As the soul is breathed into a fetus at 4 months it is compulsory to
perform Aqeeqah for a fetus born at four months even if it is a still birth. However, if the fetus is
born before 4 month then it is not compulsory to perform Aqeeqah for it.

*If the person who obligated with an Aqeeqah is in debt then it is compulsory on him to pay off
his debt before performing the Aqeeqah

Note: Two goats should slaughtered for a boy and one goat for a girl. And it is not permissible to
intend for Ulhiyyah at the same time

*It is not permissible to give Aqeeqah along with Udhiyya. It is not acceptable to slaughter for
Aqeeqah and Udhiyyah together.

Be offered as Ulhiyyah and 2 portion can be offered as Aqeeqa in case of an ox being sacrificed
then 6 portion of it can be offered as ulhiyyah and 1 portion of it can be offered as Aqeeqah. if it
is a girl. If it is a boy then 5 portion can

8. Sunnah while performing Aqeeqah

*Slaughtering the cattle intended for Aqeeqah by pronouncing ‘Bismillah’ followed by the name
of the child for whom the aqeeqah is being performed (If the child’s name is Muhammedh)
then slaughtering the animals by saying
‫ محمد عقیقة وإلیك لك اللھم‬is desirable. It is best to perform Aqeeqah at dawn.
*It is preferred to cook the aqeeqah meat without breaking
its bones into fragments.

*It is acceptable to give Aqeeqah even after 7 days of the


Child’s birth but is desirable not to delay it till the child reaches the age of maturity, if it could be
helped.

*It is desirable to cook the Aqeeqah meat in sweet tang.
