How Can Technology Affect You? 

    Technology is slowly taking over people’s thoughts, lives, and actions. This generation 

is growing up with devices, meaning kids already see screens at a young age, making them want 

it more. This leads to addiction to technology. This causes there to be devices around one 

everywhere. This way of communication, education, and entertainment can be addictive, but it is 

also one of the most useful things that man has created. 

    Many teens and kids enjoy playing video games and watching videos, these videos can 

affect the way one behaves and acts. Many games and ways of entertainment can cause 

addiction, this leads to many emotions over losing a game or something happening in Tv­shows, 

such as anger or sadness. This causes people to break and destroy things. For example, their 

furniture, gaming consoles or maybe even their TV.  

Thus, one would replace the broken item, for this reason, money gets spent over and over, 

this might lead to bankruptcy. Another reason for bankruptcy could also be that a lot of people 

spend too much money on buying games or apps. According to EPIC games, 68.8% of Fortnite 

players have spent money on in­app­purchases of skins. The average amount of money spent on 

the worldwide famous game, Fortnite is $84 per person. 

In addition to bankruptcy, one’s behavior can change when their entertainment includes 

swearing, violence, or guns. This makes people think it is okay to act like that. According to the 

news channel NBC Los Angeles, in 2016, a girl was caught speeding around in a car in Los 

Angeles, thinking that she was playing the world famous game, Grand Theft Auto 5. She tried to

get her friends to join and escape school but got arrested shortly after. This shows that people can 

actually think they are in a game or that they can act like they are in a game. 

Furthermore, as a result of social media, there are so many people online every day, of 

which some people are able to text one another. These strangers tend to persuade people to do 

bad things, they can blackmail, or send threats, resulting in people’s bad actions. This can cause 

forced addiction, ruined relationships, losing a lot of money, or doing something illegal. For 

example, in 2004, a girl got a friend request on Facebook from a stranger. She accepted the 

request and the next thing she knew, the stranger was asking her for inappropriate pictures, so 

she sent them. The stranger later started blackmailing her for more pictures or he would leak all 

of the pictures. He also did this to another one of the girl’s friend. 

Since one can communicate over text or calls, many people prefer not to talk face to face. 

As a result, people can lack in social skills, face to face. This can cause an obsession with their 

phones because they are yet again mostly on their phone. Most people like to socialize, and if 

one prefers it over the phone, there is a bigger chance of them being on their phones more than a 

person that prefers a conversation face to face.  

Now the last cause and effect is that if one isn’t with someone one can still communicate. 

If one wants to catch up with somebody else and they are in different locations one still can 

Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp and many more. One can use these apps to communicate, this is 

great to keep in touch with somebody. 

 In conclusion, technology has affected our lives in both good and bad ways. In 

entertainment and communication, it has had the greatest influence. In the future, as the

technology gets more advanced, the bad and good influence of communication and entertainment 

will undergo even more progressive changes.
