Honors Chemistry
Mr. Crano
4/10/19
Objective: The objective of this lab was to see the reactions of single displacement reactions.
- Spot plate
- Distilled water
- Crucible tongs
- 1 M Calcium Nitrate
- 2 M Hydrochloric Acid
Reactions:
Mg(s) + CaNo3(aq) NR: because of the activity series nothing is expected to happen.
Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq)H2(g) + MgCl2(l): a reaction will occur and some gas will be released.
Mg(s) + CuSo4(aq)Cu(s) + MgSo4(l): a reaction will occur and the magnesium can possible
crumble
Zn(s) + CaNO3(aq) (NR): due to ranking of the activity series, nothing is expected to happen
Zn(s) + 2HCl(aq)H2 + ZnCl2(aq): a reaction will occur and a gas may be left over
Fe(s) + CaNO3(aq)NR: due to the ranking of the activity series nothing will happen
Fe(s) + FeCl2(aq) NR: due to the ranking of the activity series nothing will happen
Cu(s) + CaNO3(aq)NR: due to the ranking of the activity series nothing will happen
Cu(s) + FeCl2(aq) NR: due to the ranking of the activity series nothing will happen
Cu(s) + 2HCl(aq) NR: due to the ranking of the activity series nothing will happen
Cu(s) + CuSo4(aq)NR: due to the ranking of the activity series nothing will happen

pieces.
reddish color
much redder.
I was expecting about what happened because before the lab I prepared the reactions and tested if
there would be a reaction or not. I would change the sample size to something much larger if
possible. Overall I think that this lab went well and it was mostly how I had predicted it.
