CHEMISTRY

Q1What is observed when a solution of potassium iodide is added to a solution

of lead acetate taken in a test tube ?
[a] What type of reaction is this ?
[b] Write a balanced chemical equation to represent the above reaction.
Q2 Translate the following statements into chemical equations by balancing
them- [a] phosphorus burns in oxygen to give phosphorus pentaoxide
[b]aluminium metal replaces iron from ferric oxide [fe2o3],giving aluminium
oxide and iron.[c] carbon disulphide burns in air to give carbon dioxide
and sulphur oxide. [d] barium chloride reacts with zinc sulphate to give zinc
chloride and barium sulphate.
Q3 Grapes hanging on plant do not ferment but after being plucked cannot
be fermented. Under what conditions do the grapes ferment? Is it aphysi-
cal change or chemical change?
Q4 A magnesium ribbon is burnt in oxygen to give a white compound X
accompanied by emission of light. If the burning ribbon is now placed
in an atmosphere of nitrogen , it continuous to burn and form a compound
Y. [a]Write the chemical formula of X and Y [b]write the balanced chemical
equation when X is dissolved in water.
Q5 Calcium oxide is dissolved in water to produce a compound X. This comp-
-ound X reacts with carbon dioxide to give another compound Y which is
used forwhite washing. Identify X and Y. Also write the chemical reaction
involved.

BIOLOGY

1. Why are villi present in small intestine?

2. Bile juice does not contain any digestive enzymes, yet it is impotant for digestion.
why?

f. enzyme working in basic/ alkaline medium
g. disorder of digestive system
PHYSICS

1. A 100 V battery is connected across a resistor and causes a current of 5 mA to

flow. Determine the resistance of the resistor. If the voltage is now reduced to 25
V, what will be the new value of the current flowing?
2. Resistors of 20Ω, 20Ω, and 30Ω, are connected in parallel. What resistance must be
added in series with the combination to obtain a total resistance of 10 Ω?
3. Resistances of 4Ω and 12Ω are connected in parallel across a 9 V battery. Determine
a) the equivalent circuit resistance, (b) the supply current, and (c) the current in each
resistor.
4. A student boils the water in an electric kettle for 20 minutes after being switched on.
Using the main supply, he wants to reduce the boiling time of water. To do so, should
he increase or decrease the length of the heating element? Justify your answer.
5. Find the equivalent resistance of the following

6. The figure below shows three cylindrical copper conductors along with their face areas and
lengths. Compare the resistance and the resistivity of the three conductors. Justify your
answer.
7. In the circuit diagram shown, the two resistance wires A and B are of same area of cross
section and same material, but A is longer than B. Which ammeter A1 or A2 will indicate
higher reading for current? Give reason.

8. Two students perform experiments on two given resistors R1 and R2 and plot the V
‐ I graphs shown by diagram 1 and 2 If R1> R2, which of two diagrams correctly
represent the situation on the plotted curves? Justify your answer.

9. Given n resistor each of resistance R. How will you combine them to get the (i)
maximum and (ii) minimum effective resistance? What is the ratio of maximum to
minimum resistance?

10. An electric geyser consumes 2.2units of electrical energy per hour of

its use. It is designed to work on the mains voltage of 220V.
a) what is the power rating of this device?
b) What is the current flowing through this device when it is connected
across the mains?
c) What is the resistance of this device?
d) Does the resistance of this device remains constant during its
working?
e) What is the cost of energy consumed if each unit cost rupees 6?
