WEEKLY JOURNALS

Week Seven – Filming

PLANNING

What did you learn from your This week I learnt that you should always double check
planning this week? the location you are planning to film in before you
actually film. This is because on the Tuesday the 30th of
April Jordan and I filmed Tyriq’s Interview in the radio
booth. We had been in the studio before to check what
the equipment would look like when filming B –roll and we
thought the space would be enough to fit two cameras
in. On the day we arrived at the studio and started to set
up both our cameras and tripods. What we found was
that with both tripods at the size level with Tyriq they did
not fit properly in the room. So we had to make do and
film it like it was.

What issues did you encounter One problem that I had when filming this week was that
and how did you overcome the footage that we filmed for Tyriq’s interview was not
them? setup in the best conditions. This just meant when we
looked back at the footage we could see some
reflections of ourselves filming in the background. If we
were to do this again I would layout the cameras
differently so that we could not be seen in the
background. Another option we could use is in editing
get rid of it with a lighting tool. Jordan and I are planning
to re shoot this at the same place and time next week.

How did you ensure that you are I ensured that I was prepared for filming by using the vibe
prepared for filming? website to hire the studio. To do this I went online and
filling out the form asking when we would need it and
how long for. I then sent it off a couple of days before we
were planning to film so that it would work as you need to
give the teachers time to see if it is already booked.

How did you ensure that your To ensure that the equipment list was completed to a
equipment lists were completed to high standard Jordan and I went through all the
a high standard? equipment we would need for each interview. We used
the research into the skills we would need for the
production to help as we are using a two camera
interview setup. This showed us all the things we would
need for the setup to work and we added this in with
anything else we thought of.
How have you ensured your actors I have ensured my actor (Tyriq) was available in the time
and crew will be available? we have to film by contacting them and gaining
confirmation. I did this through Email and messaging
them through WhatsApp asking them if they were still on
board with the filming, dates and times. I then got a
response agreeing this was all fine which can be seen in
my pre-production booklet.

How well have you been able to For the location organising I have already said about how
organise locations and transport? I hired the radio studio to film our interview in there. Since
the radio booth is on the collage site we did not have to
organise transport we just got the keys from the classroom
and walked over to it.

Are you on track for the week? If For this week I am completely on track everything that I
not, how far behind are you? have to do is done and I am going to be starting to edit
the footage that we have got.

What work do you need to I don’t need to do any work outside of lesson apart from
complete outside of lessons to stay finishing this weekly blog. Next week we are planning on
on track? recording the narration for the production so I could start
to read through the script to give me more confidence
when it comes to the day of recording.
