OJT Narrative Report

On-The-Job Trainee SHAIRA L. TAMANG

It was a great experienced working in one of the sector of the government, I was
assigned to the Local Government Unit, the sector which render various services to the
citizens of Tuguegaro City, as I am designated to the Office of the Secretary to the
Sanggunian, which tracks and promulgates the ordinances that govern the City of
Tuguegarao. The Office of the Secretary to the Sanggunian is the office that keeps
records of ordinances that was passed and approved by the legislative body, it is
responsible in informing the people and keeping track of records that ordinances are
followed by its citizens.

The Office of the Secretary to the Sanggunian have a system that stores all the
passed ordinances and orders by the legislative body, it is filed safely in its database
using Microsoft Office and Excel, which navigating thru the system is time efficient and
lesser effort in providing information to target clientele.

As an Information Technology student I am assigned in the Tracking System of the

agency’s records, which I am able to work with Microsoft systems, when a client comes
in and an employee needs a certain record I am able to assist them in obtaining thru
the computer system.

I start my shift from 8 am to 5 pm. Since clients don’t usually come to the office at
that time, I devote my time in familiarizing myself to their system, on how to navigate
easily using codes and keywords in their excel and office interface. As well I dwell in
organizing their hard copies for references of past inquiries in order for me to recognize
the usefulness of other resources. My shift ends at 5 pm but sometimes since the queue
is long I tend to extend my time in the unit to help my workmates finish faster.

As a newly oriented on the job trainee, I am aware I faced some difficulties while
on training, specially the unfamiliarity of resources needed for the services, although I
had an orientation about the unit and its function, I am still aware that I needed time to
adjust in some circumstances. As I remembered on my 2nd and 3rd week, I can say that I
am now adjusting to the work atmosphere of the unit, but rendering services to multiple
clientele having different inquiries gave me some difficulties, since we are outnumbered
by clients, I can say that was one of the issues that made my experience challenging
and focus demanding.

My job experience with the Office of the Secretary to the Sanggunian was
remarkable, I was trained to navigate systems that helps people about information they
need, this successes was not only rendered to them but as well to me, being a trainee I
was exposed to real life applications of how computer systems helps real concerns of
people, the efficiency of having of having a system in an office is very useful this days
since I am able to interact with both sides, the work force and the clients.

The first one is fast typing in encoding so that it will lessen your time to work. The
second one is being Independent because when the boss sees you work
independently that will impressed him/her. The third one is being Humble, nobody likes
someone who boasts or brags about their accomplishments. The more preferred
candidate for a future employee is someone who would prove their value through their
hard and commendable work rather than through words, whether they are true or
exaggerated. A productive workplace should not have arrogant employees.

Learning thru experience is the best way to learn. Rendering services using a
computer system is time efficiency, lesser effort in goal achieving.

When we are in our department the employees are there to cheer us. They
talked to us and comfort us when we’re feeling down. Sometimes they offer us lunch
and snacks in the afternoon.

My most Memorable moment during my internship was every lunch time our Boss
treat us food and we’re like “barkadas” chatting funny moments that happened in our
lives.

1. I would like to recommend giving sample of handouts before orientation for

the trainees to anticipate what will they expect in working with that unit. 2. Orientation
as well must be done for a longer period before the OJT.

I am advising this to the future trainees, that they need to be more vigilant and
diligent in taking this training seriously, it is a great help and experience for the reason
that they will be using this skills in the future for their career.
