“It’s not Unthinkable”

-Adam Gwapo

“The art of war teaches us to rely not on the likelihood of the enemy's not coming, but on our own
readiness to receive him; not on the chance of his not attacking, but rather on the fact that we have made
our position unassailable.” – Sun Tzu

China’s 2014 military expansion in the South China Sea and in the East China Sea had recently caused
outcry and conflict with the countries affected by the expansion. Among those countries are Vietnam,
Brunei, Taiwan, Japan and Philippines. The Philippines even reached to the international bodies/court to
intervene in making judgement in the regional dispute, won the case, but China seemed unmoved by the
discretion.

For most in the international community, this is a provocative move of China. Their historical claim posed
a threat to the sovereignty of the countries in the region that had been practiced in many years, and to
international businesses that treat this area as a significant route.

China is currently the world’s second largest economy. Over the years, Chinese improved their country’s
infrastructure, businesses and military, expeditiously. Even in science and technology they’ve proven their
might and power when recently they’ve successfully made the biggest instrument on earth aimed at
detecting possible presence of extraterrestrials, launching a spaceship and satellite, in space.

For Westerners especially US, who’ve been a world master for more than a century, this achievement
posed a serious threat in their reign. Their dominance in the world benefited both their domestic (politics
and economy) and geopolitical affairs.

The NATO is a western organization focusing on both economic and military stability of its member
states, countering terrorist, and advancement of geopolitical enemies.

So while European allies focused on the Russian advance in the Mediterranean, in the Pole and in their
own continental soil, US turned its attention, once again, in the Pacific.

From 2011, Obama successfully surrounded China with 400 military bases from Guam, South Korea,
Japan and in its South East Asian allies. This move by the US resulted to China’s insecurity, a move
hidden by the international/western media.

As we can recall in the past, the US military expansion in the East prompted the Japanese to react, which
brought the outbreak of the Second World War. A war that taught the world destruction and unity,
reconciliation but cold war...

The World truly realized its mistakes in the past and lives the so-called “post war” epoch ensuring each
new generation that the destructive war will never happen again.

But the world turned to its another chapter now.

Following the US election result, is the uncertainty of the future. Brexit, European elections, but at stake
are Iran Nuclear Deal and TPP, among others. Not to overlook the possible relentless growth of each
powerful countries, both in East and in West. That might as well spur the competence of the Middle East.

If in the process the world forgets to elucidate the limits of its interest, it leaves the idea that another world
war is not unthinkable.
