Physical contact with CR, CR Smoke, or CR vapors will result in extreme irritation. EXTINGUISHING MEDI, : Water, water fog, foam, C02, dry chemical FIRE/EXPLOSION HAZARDS: None Known. SECTION V - HEALTH HAZARD DATA EXPOSURE LEVEL (REL): The suggested recommended exposure limit 0.005 mg/m3 Ceiling (C), which should not be exceeded even instancancously. To date, however, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has’ not promulgatld a Permissible Exposure Level (PEL) for CR, per se, nor has this value been officially adopted as part of a DA Special Occupational Safety and Health Standard for CR developed IAW DODI 6055.1 EFFECTS OF OVEREXPOSURE: CR is a highly potent peripheral sensory irritant affecting the eyes, respiratory tract, and exposed skin. Lethal effects from CR are vare. The no-effect level in man within 1 minute of start of exposure is given by: TeS0 (eyes) 0.004 mg/m3 ‘rcso (inhalation) 0.002 mg/m3 This incapacitating level is man (within 1 minute of start exposure) is given by 1C50 (inhalation) = 0.7 mg/m3 (UK) +15 (USA) 2 can be considered moderately toxic: Oral LDS0 (guinea pig) = 629 mg/kg oval LDS0 (rabbit) = 1760 mg/kg Oval LDsO (rat) = 7500 mg/kg ACUIE EFFECTS: Local effects are more severe with solutions of CR than with its airborne aerosol; however, individuals are more sensitive to aerosol exposure. Such severity increases with solution concentration and in an atmosphere of high temperature and humidity. Eyes: Eye pain or discomfort, blepharospasms (muscle spasms of the eyelid muscles), and lacrimation (excessive tearing), persisting for 15-30 minutes, accompained also by a transient rise in intra-ocular pressure and sometimes photophobia (painful sensitiveness to strong light). Respiratory tract: Nasal irritation, sporadic breath holding, coughing, sneezing, and rhinorrhea (runny nose), lasting for 5-10 minutes. Exposure to high concentration of Ck in confined spaces may be life- threatening by asphyxiation or other respiratory causes. Skin: inging or burning sensations (for 15-30 minutes) often accompanied by erythema (abnormal redness of the skin) (lasting 1-2 hours) Such effects are more severe on moist skin, e.g., tongue and palate Other related effects: Temporary increase in blood pressure, possible hypertension and sometimes nausea, retching and vomiting. CHRONIC EFFEC Long-term/chronic exposure to CR may produce possible contact dermatitis or a hypersensitvity reaction. CR was found to be neither teratogenic nor embryo-lethal in animals. EMERGENCY AND FIRST AID PROCEDURES: Do not use bleach or bleach containing detergents to decontaminate agent CR. Inhalation: Don protective mask. Remove victim for agent atmosphere. Seek medical attention. ye Contact: Don protective mask. Remove victim from agent atmos- phere. Do no! rub eyes. Flush eyes with copious amounts of water for a c nile holding eyelids open. Seek medical attention. Skin Contact: | Remove victim from agent atmosphere. Gently wash area with soap and water or use deluge shower if avail- edical attention. Remove victim from agent atmosphere. Do not induce victim lots of water or milk to drink. Seek medical iiately - REACTIVITY DATA SECTION VI ble in aqueous, heated acidic and strong alkali solutions. Thermally stabl INCOMPATIBILITY: Never mix CR with organic or inorganic bleaches or
