A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Physics

Prepared by: Arvic L. Baltar
Bachelor in Secondary Education Major in General Science

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:

a. define work scientifically;

b. cite an example shows work done in daily life; and
c. calculate the work applied in the given problems.

b. Motivation: “TRABAHULA”
The teacher prepare an activity (picture) entitled “TRABAHULA”. The
students will identify the pictures that are posted on the board. After naming
all the pictures, the students will discover the lesson for the day and what is
it about.

Answer: WORK
B. EXPLORE
Directions: Tell whether the situations shown below represent examples of work.
Identify the one doing the work and on which object the work is done.

WORK DONE NO WORK DONE

C. EXPLAIN
 WORK – is defined as the product of the applied force and the distance through
which the object is moved.

 Two factors to be considered in work:

1. The Force (F) required causing an object to move.
2. The distance (d) through which the object is moved.

 Units:
Work= Joule (J) or N.m or kg. m2/s2
Force= N or kg. m/s2
Distance= m

Formula: Work can be measured or expressed as;

 If work is unknown:
W= F x d

 If Force is unknown:
F= W/d

 If distance is unknown:
d= W/F
W

F d
 Sample problem:
1. Fred exerted a 120 N force in pushing a wheelbarrow located with garden soil. If he
pushes it 50 m, what is his work?

 Given: F= 120 N
d= 50 m
 Required: W?
 Equation: W= Fd
 Solution:
W= Fd
W= (120 N)(50 m)

Answer: W= 6,000J

2. Boy pushes wooden cart with a force of 25 N through a distance of 12 m. Find the work
done by the boy?

 Given: F= 25 N
d= 12 m
 Required: W?
 Equation: W=Fd
 Solution:
W= Fd
W= (25 N)(12m)

Answer: W= 300J

3. Suppose a woman is pushing a grocery cart with a 500 N force along the 7 m aisle, how
much work is done in pushing the cart from one end of the aisle to the other?

 Given: F= 500 N
d= 7 m
 Required: W?
 Equation: W Fd
 Solution:
W= Fd
W= (500 N)(7m)

Answer: W= 3500J
