3/12/2019 Career Goals - Google Drive

As a child, Law and Order: SVU was something I came home looking forward to watch. I
aspired to be like Olivia Benson, one of the lead detectives. Her firm authority set her
apart from her colleagues and I admired this trait.

Criminal Justice offers so many job opportunities and allows growth within its field. It is
my goal to receive a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and become a juvenile
probation officer. As a probation officer, my job would be to motivate and guide juveniles
to make the right choices. I would love to be able to help someone who is at a low point;
I would be able to influence their future greatly. Working with teens, would give me the
chance to show them where they went wrong before they become an adult, where crime
is more punishable.
Since the day I walked in through the doors of New London High School, my future
career weighed heavily on my mind. I knew the next four years would be a chapter that
would have a beginning and an end, just like everything else. I want to pursue my
education. I want to become independent with a steady job. I want to be the first in my
family to attend college.
Once I was set on my choice of major, it was time to narrow down a job within the field.
For a while, becoming a cop was the only job I was familiar with and it was constantly on
my mind. After researching the requirements and training of the job, I lost interest. I
looked into the office work of an arrest. I became hooked. The adrenaline rush just from
reviewing cold cases left my body with chills and mind with wonder.
In order for my goals to be achieved, I have to go to college. Just like anything else,
money is needed to further education . By receiving this scholarship I will be able to take
the necessary steps in order to build myself in the career I firmly believe in. While both
my parents are employed, they do not earn enough money to cover my college
expenses. This scholarship would benefit, not only me, but my parents and would be
greatly appreciated. If accepted this will become a major jumpstart to a life I intend to be
very successful in.
