On the first play of the Viking drive, Joshua Dawe broke one for 19 yards and a
Viking 1st down. Viking QB Tyler Creasman kept the ball on the next play and
ran to the Bulldogs 30. Joshua Dawe got the call again and ran up the middle
to the Bulldogs 18 yard line. The Vikings were moving the ball well against a
stubborn Bulldog defense. Creasman then gave the Vikings 1 st and goal with a
QB sneak right over center. The Bulldogs put up a valiant goal line stand, but
in the end, the Vikings Neil Smith punched the ball into the endzone for the first
Viking TD of the afternoon. Smith again got the call and added the 2-point
conversion, making the score Vikings 8, Bulldogs 0.

The Bulldogs were forced to punt the ball away again, and the Vikings took over
on their own 36 yard line. The men in White continued to advance the ball on
several runs by Creasman, Dawes, and fullback Chris Hampton. Hampton piled
Advertisement his way down to the Bulldog 3 yard line, and the Vikings were threatening.
However, a fumble recovered by Andrew Roberts ended the threat, and the
Bulldogs took over with their backs to their goal line.

The Bulldogs running attack stalled, but Andrew Roberts went to the air to find
his brother, John Roberts up at the Vikings 49 yard line. This completed pass
play yielded over 30 yards and a Bulldogs 1 st down. Gabrielle Malaki did his
part and ran the ball up the middle for a gain of 8 yards. On a QB keeper,
Andrew Roberts gave the Bulldogs a 1st down on the Vikings 30 yard line. But,
the Bulldogs would go no further and elected to punt the ball away. The punt
snap when high and the ball was handed over to the Vikings on the Bulldogs 32
yard line.

The Vikings wasted no time in moving towards the Bulldogs goal line. Joshua
Dawe carried for almost 30 yards down to the 5 yard line. Dawe completed the
task and captured the touchdown for the Vikings. The 2-point conversion was
good, and the score because Vikings 16, Bulldogs 0.

The Bulldogs received the kickoff from the Vikings, and Nate Harris gave the
Bulldogs a nice runback. However, that was all the Bulldogs could muster, and
again, punted the ball away. The Vikings started their drive on the Bulldog 46.
Deep into the 2nd Quarter, the Vikings QB Tyler Creasman hit his receiver,
Julian Byrns, which took the ball down near the Bulldogs goal line. But, the
Bulldogs were determined to stop any further scoring, and put up a fierce goal
line stand. At the end of the 1st half of play, the score remained Vikings 16,
Bulldogs 0.
The 2nd half began with the Bulldogs kicking off to the Vikings. Richard Vargo
made a nice return up to midfield, giving the Vikings good field position.
Joshua Dawe continued to please Vikings fans with an 11 yard run and Viking
1st down. Then the tide turned, however, and Ty Rhodes of the Bulldogs picked
off a Viking pass and ran it back to the Bulldogs 47 yard line.

Again, Viking defense held, and the Bulldogs were forced to yield the ball.
Creighton Little boomed a punt for the Bulldogs, and Vikings Richard Vargo
returned the ball back to the Bulldogs 41 yard line. Viking ball, 1 st and 10.
Joshua Dawe carried for the Vikings, but had the ball taken away by Bulldogs
Andrew Roberts, who sprinted down the sidelines before being stopped on the
Bulldogs 42.

The ball returned to the Vikings who began to drive on their own 42. The
combination of QB Creasman and Running Backs Dawe and Hampton went to
work closing in on the Bulldogs goal line. Richard Vargo also helped by
sweeping the ball down to the Men-In-Black‟s 20 yard line, but the play was
called back. This signaled the end of the 3 rd Quarter. The Vikings cold not
make the needed 1st down, despite a nice run by Neil Smith. The ball went
over to the Bulldogs on downs.

The Vikings defense again forced the Bulldogs to punt the ball, and they took
over on the Bulldogs 40 yard line. Creasman then went to the air and hit
Robert Williamson on a long pass to the 12 yard line. On a broken play, Joshua
Dawe fumbled the ball near the Bulldogs goal line, and David Shum fell on it in
the endzone for the 3rd Viking touchdown. Tyler Creasman passed to David
Shum for the 2-pt conversion, making the score Vikings 24, Bulldogs 0.

Although the ball changed hands several more times, the score remained the
same. At the final horn, it was Vikings 24, Bulldogs 0.

Oilers 50 – Steelers 0

The Second contest of the World League Week #2 featured the Steelers and the
Oilers. First Quarter action began with the Oilers kicking off to Jeff Smith of the
Steelers, who ran the ball back to the Steelers 40 yard line. There was a
Steelers penalty on the play, so the Steelers started their drive deep in their
own territory. After a Steelers first down, Oilers Robert Morris penetrated the
Steelers line and caused a fumble. Corey Burkett of the Oilers recovered the
fumble, and it was 1st and 10 Oilers on the Steelers 19 yard line.
The Oilers pounded towards the Steelers goal line on several runs by Jake
Walker and Robert Morris. The 1st Oilers TD came on a sweep around the right
side by Jake Walker. Walker added two more on a successful conversion,
making the score Oilers 8, Steelers 0.

The next Steelers drive resulted in a punt, and the Oilers took over on the
Steelers 28 yard line. Robert Morris of the Oilers made a 15 yard run to the
Steelers 13 yard line, but then a combination of penalties and ball mis-handling
pushed the Oilers back to the Steelers 31 yard line. As the 1 st down marker
began to shrink in the distance, Oiler QB Trent Fish connected on a 20 yard pass
to Corey Burkett, giving the Oilers a 1 st down.
On the very next play from scrimmage, Jake Walker carried the ball 11 yards
into the endzone for the second Oilers score of the day. Robert Morris ran the
ball off right tackle for the 2-point conversion, and the score became 16-0,
Oilers.

On the ensuing kickoff, Jeffry Smith of the Steelers made a nice return up to
midfield, but a holding penalty brought the ball back to their own 24 yard line.
The 1st quarter ended with the Steelers continuing their drive up-field. This
drive continued at the start of the 2nd Quarter, but was short-lived. The Oilers
put up a strong defensive showing, and the Steelers were forced to punt.
Jeremy Lincoln of the Oilers pressured the punter, resulting in the ball being
downed deep in Steelers territory.

On the 1st play of the Oilers next drive, Robert Morris bulldozed his way from
the Steelers 32 yard line down to the 21. Jake Walker continued to advance
the ball towards the Steelers goal line, and eventually crossed the line for his
3rd TD of the day. Robert Morris tacked on another 2 points, and the score
widened to Oilers 24, Steelers 0.

On the Steelers next possession, deep in their own territory, Oilers Alex
Dibiagio penetrated the Steel Curtain and stole the ball from the Steelers
running back. Dibiagio plunged towards the end zone and was down at the
Steelers 1 yard line. Two plays later, Robert Morris scored his 1 st touchdown by
punching the ball into the end zone. The 2-point conversion was no good, and
the score was 30-0, Oilers.

Late in the 2nd Quarter, Jeffry Smith of the Steelers made a couple of strong
runs up the middle for a Steelers 1st down. But this drive went no further, and
the Steelers were once again forced to punt. The Oilers defense continued to
dominate, and the Steelers punt was blocked by Corbin Weber and Augusta
Soeryadjaya. The ball turned over to the Oilers on the Steelers 36 yard line.

On the 1st play of the Oilers drive, Jake Walker wove through a sea of yellow
jerseys for a 36 yard touchdown run. In a Wildcat Formation (no quarterback),
Jake Walker of the Oilers handed off to Trent Fish who dashed around the right
side for the 2-point conversion. The score increased to 38-0, Oilers. The 1st
half of play ended with this score on the board.

The 2nd half of play began with the Steelers kicking off to the Oilers. The Oilers
marched the ball upfield on a good run by Jake Walker, and then a Trent Fish to
Corey Burkett pass down to the Steelers 14 yard line. After a penalty negated
a long run by Walker, QB Trent Fish again passed, this time connecting with
Sam Wright, who took the ball down to the Steelers 7 yard line. Jake Walker
ran the ball to the 1, and then Trent Fish took a hand-off from Walker to finish
the job and score the next Oilers TD. The points after TD attempt failed, and
the score was Oilers 44, Steelers 0.
On the 1st play of the Steelers next possession, the ball was fumbled and
Augusta Soeryadjaya of the Oilers came up with it on the Steelers 28 yard line.
Again in the Wildcat Formation, Robert Morris received the snap and handed
the ball to Sam Wright, who ran it down to the 3 yard line of the Steelers. But
this time, the Oilers drive came to a screeching halt on a mis-snap which
resulted in a fumble. M.C. Wade of the Steelers came up with the ball.

The Steelers moved the ball well on several runs, including a 12 yard dash by
Kevin Hurh. But, the Oilers defensive line again stood firm and forced the
Steelers back further into their own territory. The ball returned to the Oilers on
downs, at the 38 yard line of the Steelers. After one offensive play, the 3 rd
quarter came to a close with the score, Oilers 44, Steelers 0.

On the 1st play of the 4th Quarter, the Oilers coughed up the ball, which was
recovered by the Steeler‟s Brandon Meehan. Although the Steelers gained
position, they went 4 and out, and the Oilers took over on the Steelers 42 yard
line. Alex Dibiagio took the ball all the way down to the Steelers 25 yard line
on a run to the right side. A combination of runs by Dibiagio and Corey Burkett
took the ball to the Steelers 11 yard line. Then, Alex Dibiagio ran the ball in for
a score, resulting in a final score of Oilers 50, Steelers 0.

Game Highlights – National League

Raiders 12 – Chargers 16

The Chargers „ Jack Devins started off the game by sending a long kick into
Raiders territory where the Raiders started out boldly with a pass on first
down that drew a 20 yard n interference call.. Unfortunately the Raiders
could not convert on 4th down and now it was the Chargers‟ turn to light up
the night. Quarterback Bas Sock showed a lovely touch with a 15 yard pass
in the right flat to receiver Ryan Pond who made a beautiful cross-field
cutback and outran the defenders for a 47 yard catch and run score.

The 2 point conversion was good and early on the Chargers were up 8-0
over the Raiders.

On the Raiders second possession Jack Albanese took a pitch left and banged
his way 10 yards for a first down. Then it was Daniel Brundage‟s turn,
slashing 7 yards on a well executed inside reverse. Jack Albanese then
picked up the 3rd down with a 4 yard burst on 3rd and 3. Two plays later
Albanese churned and spun for 28 yards over the left side of his offensive
line down to the Chargers‟ 5 yard line. Left Guard Teaguen Stanczak and Left
Tackle Michael Albanese again clearing the way for the Raiders‟ running
backs.

The drive stalled there however with a fumbled pitch and another run
producing negative yardage and ending with Charger Amos Chi‟s QB
pressure forcing an incomplete pass on 4th and 11. The Raider offense was
without the services of speed merchant Eliot Sperling who was sidelined with
a pulled hamstring. Eventually Eliot‟s teammates would need to make the
adjustment.

The Chargers took over on their own 16 yard line and after a great 1x1
tackle on QB Bas Sock by Raider Daniel McConaghy, teammate Henry
Manachi‟s 4th down stop on the Chargers‟ 19 put the Raiders offense in
great shape. Raider Daniel Brundage wasted no time sweeping 19 yards over
the left side for the score. On the two-point conversion, Bas Sock tackled
Jack Albanese in the backfield to secure the Chargers‟ lead at 8-6 and that‟s
how the First Half ended.

The Second Half opened with the Raiders stopping the Chargers on 4th and
14 on their own 45 yard line. On second down for the Raiders Jack Albanese
is stripped of the ball and the Chargers recover on their own 46 yard line.
The Chargers looked to capitalize on the momentum change but Jack
Albanese stepped in front of a Bas Sock pass and darted 55 yards down the
left sideline to make the score 12-8 Raiders. Pressure up front led by Daniel
Brundage forced a rare Bas Sock miscue. On the 2-point conversion the
Chargers defense once again came up big to thwart Raiders charge. 8:11 left
to play and Raiders 12-8 over Chargers.

The Chargers took over on the Raiders 43 yard line where Bas Sock fires a
beautiful 18 yard pass to Ryan Pond who makes an equally impressive catch
and run down to the 25 yard line. A Face Mask Penalty takes the ball to the
12 yard line. After some great Raider defense pushes the ball back to the 24
yard line, Bas Sock converts on 4th and 22 with an improbable 24 yard
Touchdown pass to his favorite receiver Ryan Pond. Bas Sock scores the 2-
point conversion on the QB keeper to push the score to Chargers 16-12 over
the Raiders with 6:23 to go.

On the Raiders‟ next possession Jack Albanese clipped off several impressive
runs behind the blocking of Stanczak and his brother Michael and it looked
like the Raiders were heading to paydirt.
Yet on 4th and inches - and maybe the play of the game - nosetackle Bas
Sock and the rest of the Chargers‟ defensive front stopped the QB sneak to
send the ball back over to the Chargers with 3:54 to go in the game.
Cameron Creasman picks up a key First Down on 2nd and 8 to keep the
clock and the chains moving for the Chargers. With just 1:10 to go on the
clock the Raiders get the ball back on the Chargers‟ 40 yard line but on 2nd
and 10 the HB option pass was intercepted by Chargers‟ Jack Devins to seal
the win for the Chargers.

This was a hard fought, well-played game between 2 evenly matched

teams….a real treat for SAFL fans. Final score - Raiders 12 – Chargers 16.

Chargers 16 – Cougars 16

After a long Blackout delay the faithful fans that braved the night‟s
uncertainties were treated to a whale of a ballgame.

The Cougars‟ Cole Derksen set the tone with an inspired 25 yard kickoff
return. On 1st and 10, Brett Bertamini rambled 14 yards to the Charger 35
yard line. Facing 3rd and 7, Bertamini raced off right guard down to the 9
yard line with a Jack Devins tackle saving the Touchdown for the Chargers.
On the next play however QB Cole Derksen settled matters with a 9 yard run
to put the Cougars on the board 6-0. Big #99 Brett Bertamini‟s successful 2-
point conversion ran the score to 8-0 Cougars with 8:22 left in the First Half.

The Chargers came out swinging with Bas Sock‟s well-executed play action
pass to Ryan Pond who ran a precision 20 yard flag pattern and hauled in
Sock‟s spiral. With 15 yards tacked on after the play the Chargers were in
business at the 40 yard line of the Cougars. After a 5 yard bust up the
middle by Cameron Creasman, the Cougar defense stiffened. Brett Bertamini
stopped the next ball-carrier for no gain and then dropped the ever
dangerous Ryan Pond for a 4 yard loss. On 4th and 9 Bas Sock‟s pass to
Andrew Taylor fell incomplete. Cougars take over on downs.

On the Cougar‟s 2nd down play, #81 Nick Holl scampered around left end for
23 yards down to the Chargers‟ 35 yard line. Cole Derksen runs 10 yards on
a QB keeper but some Cougar errors and timely defense by the Chargers
ended the Cougars drive.

On the Chargers first play however the Cougars went back to offense thanks
to a brilliant interception by #20 Logan Chaudhry who ran the ball back to
midfield. From there Cole Derksen weaved 15 yards down to the Chargers
35 yard line. Facing 3rd and 10, Derksen handed off to big #99 Brett
Bertamini who raced around left end and outran the defenders to the
endzone. Cole Derksen swept around right end for the 2 point conversion to
make the score Cougars 16 Chargers 0 which is how the first Half ended.

After an inspired Cougar defense – led by Stephen Faris – stopped the

Chargers running attack on 4th and 4 the Cougars took over on the Chargers
45 yard line. After a penalty by the Chargers brought the ball down to the 30
yard line it looked like the Cougars might put this one away. Yet the
Chargers defense had other thoughts. Andrew Taylor‟s fine pass defense on
first down was followed by Bas Sock dropping the Cougar ballcarrier for a
loss on second down and then Stephen Faris and Bas Sock teaming up to
dump Cole Derksen for no gain. Facing 4th and 11, Brett Bertamini gets the
call and is swamped by what seems like half the Chargers defense but
manages to keep his legs moving and wills himself down to the 9 yard line
for a First and Goal for the Cougars. After a 5 yard False Start penalty
against the Cougars the Chargers defense same alive again. Stuart Baker
made 2 big-time plays taking down Bertamini on a solo tackle on 2nd down
and then on 4th and Goal tackles Cole Derksen in the backfield to end the
Cougar threat. Stuart Baker the Difference Maker.

Bas Sock and Ryan Pond knew what to do next…connecting on a 30 yard

pass play to midfield. On the next play Bas Sock evades a heavy Cougar
rush and manages to find #85 Andrew Taylor in the right flat who makes a
few dance fever moves, eluding several tacklers before one of the Cougars
finally takes him down at the 12 yard line. On 2nd and Goal it seemed only
fitting that Taylor finish things off with a nice run around left end for the
score. Bas Sock‟s QB keeper brings the score to Cougars 16 Chargers 8 with
2:22 left to play.

Cougars‟ Chris Ragsdale recovers the onside kick at their own 49 yard line.
This is where the Chargers defense again asserted themselves. Stuart Baker
tackles big #99 Bertamini for a loss and Andrew Taylor and Bas Sock swarm
over the elusive Cole Derksen for an 8 yard loss and on 4th down the same
duo of Taylor and Sock combine to stop Brett Bertamini to give the Chargers‟
offense one last chance.

That‟s all they needed. On 4th and 10 the Chargers‟ clutch tandem of Bas
Sock and Ryan Pond combine for a first down with Pond outleaping Cole
Derksen for Sock‟s pass and then rambling for extra yards. 2 Bas Sock runs
produced another first down. This set the stage for Andrew Taylor‟s fancy
footwork around left end where he was hemmed in by a pursuing Cougar
defense but then darted back inside at the 5 yard line and into the endzone
to put the Chargers in striking distance 16-14. Now they needed the 2 point
conversion to tie the game. Bas Sock, behind a determined Charger
offensive line, bulled his way up the middle for 2 point conversion and a 16-
16 tie. 22 seconds later the game ended that way, all square at 16. Thank
you to the players and coaches on both teams. This was a special game.
Final score: Chargers 16– Cougars 16.
Cougars 0 – Raiders 38

The Raiders opened this much-delayed game by kicking off out of bounds to
earn a penalty. It would not be the last penalty for either team as the game
wound into the very late evening due to a lengthy Blackout Delay.

Sleep deprivation contributed mightily to the bad snaps, dropped passes and
fumbles that punctuated the play of these 2 otherwise well-drilled teams.

After the teams traded a series of fumbles, Cougar QB Cole Derksen was
tackled for a loss by Michael Albanese forcing a punt, which brother Jack
Albanese almost returned for a touchdown before the punter Nick Holl
tackled him out of bounds at around the 15 yard line. On the very next play
running back Daniel Brundage rumbled around right end for the score. Jack
Albanese‟s 2 point run was good putting the Raiders up 8-0 with 3:56 left to
go in the First half.

On the Cougars next series Southpaw QB Chris Jackson hooked up with

receiver Logan Chaudhry on a beautiful 30 yard pass play but a penalty
negated the play. Raider linebacker Daniel McConaghy looked like he was in
the Cougar huddle on the next play when he intercepted the ball in the
Cougar backfield and loped 60 yards for another score. Daniel Brundage‟s
run around right end was good to put the Raiders up 16-0 with 2:51 left in
the First Half.

On a marvelously placed onside kick that squibbed past the first row of
blockers, Raider Jack Albanese recovered on the Cougar 35 yard line and
then on the next play padded his stats by chugging 35 yards over the left
side of his offensive line to boost the Raider margin to 22-0 with 2:38 to
play. After stopping the Cougars, the Raiders fumbled the ball away again
and the First half came mercifully to a close.

Cougar QB Cole Derksen threw a couple of nifty passes on the next series
but his teammates couldn‟t come down with the ball.

Raider Daniel Brundage ran very effectively up the middle of his offensive
line before stutter-stepping around right end to the 10 yard line where #99
Brett Bertamini tackled him to save the TD. Jack Albanese took over from
there however, sweeping 10 yards over the left side for the score and adding
the 2 point conversion on the very same play for a 30-0 Raider lead with
8:04 to go in the game.

Cougars came back firing with QB Chris Jackson connecting with receiver
Stephen Faris on a well-timed 20 yard pass play. Raider defenders Demetri
Greco and Ethan Wade met in the Cougar backfield to dump Chris Jackson
for a loss on the next play. Undeterred, Jackson connected twice with #86
Justin Hunt for pickups of 20 and 12 yards to move the chains for the
Cougars. On the very next play however Raider defensive back Sean Mouton
stepped in front of a Chris Jackson pass and raced 65 yards for an apparent
touchdown. An illegal block only delayed the score change as Daniel
Brundage powered 15 yards on the next play and added the 2 point
conversion to make the score 38-0 in favor of the Raiders.

Yet the Cougars had no quit in them. After an impressive 35 yard kickoff
return from Cougar Nick Holl, QB Chris Jackson lofted a tight spiral to #46
Stephen Faris for a 35 yard score. Wait…flag on the play. Illegal formation
call . This latest penalty seemed to open the miscue floodgates and it was
time to go home. Final Score Raiders 38 Cougars 0.

Week 2 Game Highlights :

Gators 22 – Longhorns 0

The first game of the American League this week pitted the Gators kicking
off to the Longhorns. The Gators twelve-yard kick-off was quickly pounced
on by Jonathan Picard of the Longhorns around midfield. Bradley Park
started off the Longhorns‟ offensive drive with a five yard run up the middle
to bring them into Gator territory.

Daelen Dennenberg then ran the ball on the next two plays and nearly
scored a touchdown by slipping past 3 defenders on the left side but he was
brought down by Finn Sykes on the 10 yard line. A few plays later, the
Longhorns fans held their breath as the ball was fumbled, but, to their relief,
it was recovered by Jacob Vore on the 12 yard line for a 4th down and goal.
The Longhorns tried scoring with a pass but it was incomplete, ending their
first drive of the game without any points.
The Gators then got the ball on their own 18-yard line. Finn Sykes ran the
ball down the left side for a first down. He was tackled by Miller Williams
and Daelen Dennenberg on the Gators‟ 32 yard line.

A little later and the Gators fumbled the ball, but the Thomas Samuels
immediately scooped up the ball, and after some hesitation, ran 35 yards for
a touchdown. Kyle Froemke finished the job by converting the 2 points, and
the score was Gators 8, Longhorns 0.

The Longhorns started their next drive on their own 20-yard line but could
not advance the ball past their 30-yard line against a tough Gators defense.
The Longhorns punted the ball away and Gavin Hall ran the ball back to the
Longhorns 30 yard line with 6 minutes left in the game. On the next play,
Gavin Hall hiked the ball and ran down the sideline, narrowly evading a
couple of tackles to score a touchdown. Score Gators 14, Longhorns 0.

The Longhorns‟ Harri Starr received the ensuing kick-off and had a nice 15-
yard run to the Gators‟ 38-yard line evading a number of tackles. After a
loss of yardage due to offensive holding, the Longhorns went for a pass play.
Bradley Park connected with Jacob Vore for a great catch on the left side for
a 12 yards gain but the next two plays couldn‟t get the Longhorns a first
down, by inches, so the Gators got the ball back on their 36 yard line.

A couple of attempted trick plays later and it was 3rd and 18 on the Gators
30-yard line. Then, Kyle Fromke dropped back 2 steps and unleashed a
beautiful pass down the left sideline which was caught perfectly by William
Dibiagio, who hustled 30 more yards for a touchdown. After the conversion,
the score widened to 22-0.

The Longhorns struggled with a couple of loose balls on their next drive and
couldn‟t get a first down despite coming within inches. The Longhorns
managed to hold the Gators on their next drive and the game ended 22-0.

Gators 18 - Rams 6

The second game of the American League this week started with the Rams
kicking-off to the Gators. The kick by the Rams was to the Gators‟ 22-yard
line. On the first play, Kyle Fromke connected with William Dibiagio on a
pass down the left side, but this time he was tackled by Garrett Jenkins on
the 34-yard line.

A few plays later and Kyle Fromke passed again, this time to Carter Ware
down the middle for a first down on the Rams‟ 32-yard line. A few runs later
and Fromke ran a quarter back sneak along the left side for a 5-yard
touchdown. Gators 6, Rams 0.
The Rams started their drive on the 25-yard line after the kick-off. Jay You
ran the ball for 5 yards over a couple of plays to set up a quarterback sneak
by Nick Cione for a first down. Robert Moritz then took the ball another 5
yards and the Rams were in Gator territory on the 36-yard line.

After being sacked on the previous play by Kyle Fromke, Nick Cione recovers
on the next play to run the ball but falls short of the first down. The ball
reverted to the Gators on their 35-yard line.

On the Gators‟ first play of the drive, Jack Teerlinck sacked Gavin Hall for a
5-yard loss. A few runs later and it was 4th and 6 for the Gators on the 40-
yard line. Finn Sykes then ran for 30 yards down the sideline but was
stopped short of a touchdown by Robert Moritz.
The Gators were held there by a tough Rams defense, which then got the
ball back on their 10-yard line. Then, after a few plays, the Rams fumbled
and the ball was recovered by Matthew Meehan for the Gators. Kyle Froemke
then snuck around the left side for 5 yards and the touchdown. Gators 12,
Rams 0.

Jay You returned the kick-off to the Rams‟ 34-yard line. On the first play of
the drive, Nick Cione has a great run down the right side of the field, plowing
through a number of tackles to the Gators‟ 28-yard line. But this is just an
appetizer of Nick‟s next run, which sees him break four tackles for a 28-yard
touchdown. Gators 12, Rams 6.
The next Gator drive was punctuated by a near interception by the Rams‟
Collin Pond, a fingertip catch by William Dibiagio down the middle, a sack by
Nils Berggren, a nice pass reception by Carter Ware and, last but not least, a
touchdown run by Carter Ware. The extra point kick by Finn Sykes was as
close as it gets but no cigar. Gators 18, Rams 6.

Longhorns 24 – Rams 0

The third game this week in the American League started with a kick-off by
Bradley Park of the Longhorns to Robert Moritz of the Rams, who ran the ball
for 10 yards to the Rams‟ 35-yard line. Joe Brick then ran the ball 7 yards to
get just into Longhorn territory a couple of plays later. But the ball shortly
went to the Longhorns when the Rams were unable to convert the 4th down.
The Longhorns‟ Bradley Park then ran up the middle for 20 yards to the
Rams‟ 20 and was tackled by Robert Moritz. Daelen Dennenberg then went
up the right side for the score. The two-point conversion was good and the
score became Longhorns 8, Rams 0.

The Rams started their next drive on their 28 yard line but never managed
to get through the tough Longhorn defense, thus, after a fumble and a sack
by Jonathan Picard, the Rams decided to punt. The punt return was
fumbled by the Longhorns and was recovered by Jay You. The Rams
seemed back in business. However, on the next play, the Rams fumbled
and Jacob Vore recovered the ball on the Rams‟17 yard line. The Longhorns
drive was punctuated by some nice yardage picked up by Bradley Park and
Daelen Dennenberg on the run and by Jacob Vore in the air, who was
stopped just short of the goal line. Then, as the Longhorns prepared to
score again, there was a fumble, and Jack Teerlinck of the Rams recovered it
on their own 2-yard line. Unfortunately for the Rams, two plays later and it
was a safety. Longhorns 10, Rams 0.

The Rams kick-off is picked up by Nate Bernard, who is taken down by a nice
tackle by Callaghan Crowley. On the next play from scrimmage, Daelen
Dennenberg ran 38 yards zigzagging through the crowd for a touchdown.
The 2-point conversion was good by Harri Starr. Longhorns 18, 0.

The next drive by the Rams took them from their 35 yard line to the
Longhorns 20 helped by a couple of nice runs by Joe Brick. But on fourth
down and 5, the Rams fumbled and Kevin Busse recovered the ball. The
Longhorns had the ball on their 35-yard line. A couple of plays later and
Bradley Park went up the left side and made a nice move to the outside for a
38-yard touchdown. Longhorns 24, Rams 0.

The Longhorns kick-off was deflected and then recovered around midfield by
Wesley Dimond. In their next drive, the Rams were unable to break the
Longhorn defense and ended up losing yards on a couple of fumbles. The
Longhorns started their next drive on the Rams‟ 27-yard line but were
unable to score again. The final score was 24 to 0, Longhorns over the
Rams.

Football is a big commitment. In the SAFL, we emphasize Student Athletes -

not the other way around. As the school year and the season get truly
underway, some of your young men may struggle to manage time. He - and
his parents - may question the commitment to football. How is it affecting
grades? Some may think they should quit football. In a few (very few)
cases, this may be the right decision. For most players, quitting is not a
good decision. Not only does a lack of players impact the team and the
league negatively, quitting may impact your son negatively. Peer pressure is
an important part of every young person's life. Being labeled a 'quitter' is
hardly good for his self-image.

One of our main objectives is to teach life lessons in a competitive

environment. Coaches and parents should continue to emphasize to their
Student Athletes that school performance is primary. Work with him to
understand his time is limited; that he may have to forego some TV or video
game time to study during the available hours. These are the types of
choices we all must make as we mature. Making them successfully will lead
to a stronger self-image, and a more mature young man. I have known a
number of parents whose sons have had better grades during football
season than afterwards, simply because he had to make good choices, and
use his time wisely.

Football is a big commitment, but it's a very short season. Support from
parents and coaches during this intense time will go a long way to ensure
success at home, at school, and on the field.

Thank you very much for all you do!

Tomo’s Tips: How to take care of Injury

During the football game, one of the players goes down

after getting tackled. He gets up immediately, limps for
a while and continues playing. After the game, his ankle
is sore and may be even painful with some swelling.
Taking care of it properly makes a difference in how the ankle feels the next
day and how fast it recovers.

Remember basic management of sports injuries (R.I.C.E.) and you will be

ahead of other players!

Rest: Yes, you need to rest to let the body heel

itself. Not allowing enough rest will prolong the
inflammation and increase the healing time required thus delaying the
recovery. Playing on injury will create another injury somewhere else!

Ice: Apply ice for 20min followed by 1 hour off. It will control the pain,
slow down inflammation, and decrease the metabolism which
minimizes cell death.

Compression: Apply bandage/wrap around the

injured body, starting at the part furthest from the
heart with tightness decreasing as you wrap toward
the hear.

Elevation: When sitting/sleeping, elevate the injured

body above the heart. It will help to eliminate
swelling through gravity.
