INTRODUUCTION

Background of the study

Social network sites (SNS) have become an interesting part of student life as a result of their
features and medium of usage. Students engage each other, friends and peers on various issues and
topics as will share interesting things about their lives and their surroundings.

Internet as a source of information plays an important role in developing one’s mind and life
experience by creating productive works in school, offices and even at home. The fact that people live in
on informative lifestyle where everything is updated internet became one of the necessities of human
being regardless of age of sex in today’s society. Social media networks accessed this tools for their
personal benefits. The study by Apeanti and Danso (2014), found that students accessed social media
using laptop/personal computers, smart phones, internet cafes, campus computers, and tablets with a
few indicating that they did not access social media.

Social networks have become an integral part of student social life (Tavares, 2013). These
networks have become important as they serve as platforms for users to interact and relate with their
peers. Social networks are now been seen as learning platforms or communities that could be utilizes to
enhance student engagement and performance.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to determine the “The POSITIVE EFFECT Of SOCIAL MEDIA In The ACADEMIC
PERPORMANCE Of SENIOR HIGHSCHOOLAs PERCIEVED By The STUDENTS In SAN RAFAEL NATIONAL
HIGH SCHOOL”.

Specifically, if will see the following question.

1. What are the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of,:

a. Age
b. Genders
c. Grade level

2. What are the positive effect of social media in the academic performance of Senior High
student in san Rafael National High School?
3. How social media affect the academic performance of the Senior High School students?

OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY

1. To determine the demographic profile of the respondents in San Rafael National High School.
Barangay San Rafael, Puerto Princesa City.

2. Determining how to spend their time in social media could explain their attraction to the
social media.

3. To determine what are effect of social media to them.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 The researcher believe that this study is beneficial to the following:

Student – this study would help them understand all about advantages and dis advantages of
social media in the academic performance of the student.

Future researcher – the finding of this study will be serving as a good source and useful
information to them.

Parent – this study would help them to guide their children about social media.

Teachers – this study would help them to guide also the students about how to use social media
site in the right way.

HYPOTHESIS

1. There is no significant relationship between the demographic profiles of the respondent

in determining the positive of the social media in San Rafael National High School.

2. There is significant relationship between friends and people connection and student
academic performance.

3. There is significant relationship between nature of usage and student’s academic

performance.

4. There is significant relationship between health addiction and student’s academic

performance.

Scope and delimitation

 This study focused on “The POSITIVE EFFECT Of SOCIAL MEDIA In The ACADEMIC
PERFORMANCE Of SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLAs PERCIEVED By The STUDENTS In SAN RAFAEL NATIONAL
SCHOOL HIGH”

Aims to asses the High School Student about SOCIAL MEDIA. This study measuring the
knowledge about the social media of the High School Student in San Rafael National High School,
Barangay San Rafael Puerto Princesa City.

DEFINATION OF TERMS

For the people and better understanding of the study. The following are defined
operationally.

EFFECT – refers to the change that is result of engagement in Social Media of the respondent.

SOCIAL MEDIA – It is used by the million people such as facebook, twitter, email, and many other.

ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE- refers to the over all performance of the respondents during the first
quarter.

INTERNET-it is a source of information.

 CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter present the research design, respondent of the study, instrumentation, data
collection, and treatment of data.

Locale of the study

This study was conducted in San Rafael National High School. Barangay San Rafael, purok Bagong
Silang. This place is 63 kilometers away from norther of Puerto princesa city. More over, this is found
between barangay Babuyan and Baranagay Tanabag.

Research design

This study will use exploratory qualitative design. This study is exploratory because the
researchers would like to know the Positive effect of Social media to the academic performance of the
respondents.

Respondent of the study

The respondent of the study are the selected students of San Rafael National High School.
Sampling procedure

Purposive sampling will be employed in this study. A total of population in San Rafael National
High School was taken from San Rafael National School office and was used as basic of the study.

Research Instrumentation

Structured questionnaire will be use in this study.

Data Collection Procedure

the researcher will be asking permission from the School Principal to distributed the instrument.
After obtaining a written consent to conduct the study, an initial request for respondents to follow which
will serve as an invitation from them to participate in the study. The survey questionnaire will be
administered by the researcher themselves among the student San Rafael National High School.
