2. Coagulum within cut tissues is a source of iron, which reacts with
the hydrogen sulfide gas (rotten egg gas, H2S) produced by anaerobic
bacteria in this septic environment. The reaction yields ferric sulfide,
the harmless yet annoying dark surface stain shown on the right.
This stain can occur to a lesser degree from the natural iron in blood. 1
Additionally, nonsealing provisionals are problematic, as saliva and/or

DENTIST SUPERVISION IS THE BEST WAY TO WHITEN!
Tooth whitening treatments are effective and safe if they are
used appropriately and with the correct materials. This includes a
comprehensive exam, briefing on the chosen whitening process, and

Opalescence® Small Window Cling 1pk Enamelast® After Care Treatment Card 25pk
3ʺ x 6ʺ
Place these in your windows or mirrors so patients will see them and DIRECTIONS FOR ENAMELAST AFTER-CARE TREATMENT
ask for more information about whitening treatments. After the application of Enamelast, a slight coating of varnish will remain on your teeth.
In order to achieve the maximum benefit of treatment, please adhere to the following
recommendations after you leave our office.
• If possible, do not brush your teeth, take fluoride supplements, or use home
fluoride treatments the day of varnish application
• Resume normal oral hygiene the day after Enamelast treatment. Thorough brushing
and flossing easily removes any remaining Enamelast.
• Do not eat hard or chewy foods, or chew gum on treatment day
• Avoid hot drinks and products containing alcohol (i.e., beverages, oral rinses, etc.)
during the treatment period
• Enamelast needs to be reapplied every 3–6 months
