Dear Hiring Manager,

I'm Doris Lin Nelson, I'm 30 years-old and a local to Duvall. In early June of 2019, I will be receiving my
Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Washington- Seattle Integrated Social Sciences program.
Over the past six years, I have been a full-time stay-at-home mother and part-time student. Now that
I’m about to graduate, I'm eager and ready to re-enter the workforce.

Although I don’t have hands-on job experience as District Support Specialist, I have years of experience
as an Assistant Supervisor in the Processing Department at a private medical laboratory. My duties as a
Processing Assistant Supervisor are like that of a District Support Specialist. For instance, I helped assist
with the maintenance of timesheets through ADP and employee scheduling using Microsoft Excel.

My experience as an IT Support Specialist for UW Libraries and training at the Computer Training
Academy made it easier to learn and become proficient in LabDAQ, an advanced laboratory information
system (LIS). I oversaw updates to the LIS, I was the “go-to” individual to troubleshoot program issues
when they arose, and I helped establish new tests into the LIS when new tests were ordered.

As the Processing Assistant Supervisor, I made sure that the Processing Department adhered to the
standards set by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) so that patient reports
remain confidential whenever patient reports were sent electronically, by fax, or phone and only to
authorized individuals.

Furthermore, as an expertise in my field, I was responsible for establishing a training program and
training new personnel in the use of various ordering systems and resources in addition to collaborating
with department managers to suggest and make improvements to issues addressed in our monthly
quality improvement meetings.

I have always excelled in anything I’ve set my mind to and I am sure that if I’m selected for the job, I will
be a valuable employee to RSD. My ability to be resilient, persistent, honest, and friendly are, I believe,
my best assets. In addition, I possess several important skills necessary to a District Support Specialist
such as the ability to communicate effectively to both individuals and groups of people, prioritizing
tasks, time-management and problem-solving. Even though I’ve been out of the formal workforce for 5
years, my time spent on my higher education has been invaluable because it has prepared me for my
next chapter in life and a career like the one you are offering as District Support Specialist.

Thank you for taking the time to read my cover letter. I hope to be able to meet with you in person and
discuss why I would be a good fit in your team.

Respectfully,

Doris Nelson
