Deccan and South India

Chalukyas :
1. It was the most important kingdom after the fall of Satvahanas.
2. The capital of Chalukyas was Vatapi (modern Badami) in
Karnataka.
3. Pulkeshin II was its famous ruler. He was the contemporary of
Harshavardhana and defeated him in a fierce battle.
4. The kings patronized art and architecture.
5. They built many magnificient temples at Aihole, a town of Badami
and Pattadakal. The most famous temples are the Papanatha
Temple and Virupaksha Temple.
 The walls of temples were decorated with scenes from
Ramayana.
 They also built cave shrines and beautiful sculptures.

king Keertivarman and ended the rule of the Chalukyas.
