ONE KofC COUNCIL
Brothers,

June is change over month at the Knights of Columbus. Elections will be held at
the business meeting on Wednesday June 5. After 2 years as your Grand Knight
I will be making way for a newly elected Grand Knight and his team of officers. It
has been my honor to serve St. Jude Council and its Knights. The future is bright
as we move ahead with an exciting schedule for next year. Please greet your
new Grand Knight with enthusiasm and see where you can help.

Let’s take a quick look at what’s been done in 2 years: the Council’s Ladies
Auxiliary was established and grows; we reached the Star Council level; new
records for Charity money raised (1043 C&B / 770 Chapter Charity Books) and
given to our Parishes; tripled the Coats For Kids total; new Membership levels -
St. Jude, Pray for Us 40 new members brought to the Council; hosted more Fraternal meetings and
degrees; and doubled the amount of giving to Catholic causes, while providing
In service monthly Socials and dinners along the way. These are just some of the highlights
of what You the members have accomplished. I have seen our Knights grow
to one. through action and our Officers rise in responsibility.

In service But we have a lot to do in this month. As I mentioned the elections night June 5,
to all. a Blood Drive June 6, a Prayer for Life Day at the Shrine June 8, the Chapter
Charity Ball June 9, A First/Second Degree June 18, Business Meeting June 19,
Honor Our Fathers dinner June 21, a Parish BBQ (St Anthony’s) June 30.

We did very well for St Louis this fall, lets show up and enjoy the day again.

A special thank you to the Officer’s and volunteers who have worked so hard to
make St. Jude’s Council events successful.

Vivat Jesus,

S.K. Eugene A. Johann

The 12 Promises of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

In the Catholic Church, the month of June is dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This great feast in
the Church is always celebrated on the octave day of Corpus Christi, the feast which celebrates the Body and
Blood of Christ. Corpus Christi falls on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday (which itself falls on the Sunday after
Pentecost), which means the feast of the Sacred Heart falls nineteen days after Pentecost Sunday. The
following day is the feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, so these two devotions to the hearts of Jesus and
Mary are side-by-side on the liturgical calendar.
Devotion to Jesus’ Sacred Heart is perhaps the most popular in the Church today, and it had its beginning
in 17th century France. In 1672, Christ appeared to a French Visitation nun, St. Margaret Mary Alacoque. Over
a series of visits, Our Lord revealed to St. Margaret Mary the importance of devotion to His Sacred Heart. He
asked that His heart, wounded on the cross and continually wounded by ingratitude of men for his sacrifice for
them, be venerated and adored as an embodiment of His Divine mercy and love.
Jesus especially asked that all people go to Confession and receive Holy Communion often, especially on
the First Friday of each month, and that reparation be made for sins committed against His Sacred Heart and
the Holy Eucharist. He also requested that the Church observe a feast day specifically for the of this reparation.
In 1856, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart was officially added to the liturgical calendar.
You can have a devotion to the Sacred Heart by doing as Our Lord asked, by receiving Holy Communion
frequently (especially on the first Friday of each month), monthly confession, veneration of an image of
His Sacred Heart, and prayers and sacrifices offered out of love for Him and for the conversion of sinners.
Jesus also gave us, through St. Margaret Mary, special promises for those who keep a loving devotion to
the attribute of His infinite love for mankind as represented in His Most Sacred Heart. Below are the twelve
incredible promises of Jesus to those who have a true devotion to His Sacred Heart:

1. I will give them all the graces necessary in their state of life.
Our Father, Who art in Heaven, 2. I will establish peace in their homes.
hallowed be Thy name; 3. I will comfort them in all their afflictions.
4. I will be their secure refuge during life, and above all, in death.
Thy Kingdom come, 5. I will bestow abundant blessings upon all their undertakings.
Thy will be done on earth 6. Sinners will find in my Heart the source and infinite ocean of mercy.
7. Lukewarm souls shall become fervent.
as it is in Heaven.
8. Fervent souls shall quickly mount to high perfection.
Give us this day our daily bread; 9. I will bless every place in which an image of my Heart is exposed and honored.
and forgive us our trespasses as we 10. I will give to priests the gift of touching the most hardened hearts.
11. Those who shall promote this devotion shall have their names written in my Heart.
forgive those who trespass against us; 12. I promise you in the excessive mercy of my Heart that my all-powerful love will grant to all those who
and lead us not into temptation, receive Holy Communion on the First Fridays in nine consecutive months the grace of final perseverance;
they shall not die in my disgrace, nor without receiving their sacraments. My divine Heart shall be their
but deliver us from evil. Amen. safe refuge in this last moment.

Brothers, District Deputy’s Message

First I would like to express my condolences to GK Gene Johann and his family on the passing of his mother.

Thank you to all who came down for the Marion Hour of Prayer. We gathered to pray for persecuted
Christians. Christians that die for their faith. We must pray for them daily and thank God for our freedoms that
we have and so many take for granted.

We went on the annual Pilgrimage to Our Lady of the Island Shrine on May 19. It was a beautiful day for
mass on the Rock. Thank you to all my Brothers that came down.

Congratulations and welcome to the Knights of Columbus to 6 Brothers that made their
1st Degree on May 21st.

Thank you for being a Knight and God Bless,

William Fontaine, District Deputy NY 3rd

Prayer for the Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney

God, our Father, protector of the poor and

defender of the widow and orphan, you called
your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be
an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the
young to the generous service of their neighbor.
Through the example of his life and virtue may
we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely,
fulfilling his commandment of charity and building
up his Body which is the Church. Let the
inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater
confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the
needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your servant
Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your
holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present
(here make your request). Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be.
