En français, les VERBES DE GOUT sont suivis d’un verbe à l’INFINITIF :
ex : j’aime LIRE – Je déteste FAIRE du vélo - Il préfère
COURIR.
En anglais, les verbes de goût sont suivis du GERONDIF –terminaison ING.

J’aime lire. = I like reading

Ils aiment lire = They enjoy reading
J’aime bien lire. = I ’m fond of reading.
Il adore lire. = He loves reading.
On préfère lire. = We prefer reading.
Mon passe temps préféré c’est lire. = My favourite hobby is reading.
Ils détestent lire. = They hate reading.
Je supporte pas la lecture. = I can’t stand reading.

En Français, les verbes COMMENCER A , CONTINUER A, ARRETER
DE sont suivis de l’INFINITIF.
En anglais, les verbes START, STOP, KEEP, GO ON sont suivis du
GERONDIF – terminaison ING.

Je commence à travailler à 8h. = I start working at 8 o’clock.

Arrête de parler ! = Stop talking!
Ils ont continué à essayer. = They kept trying.
Il a arrêté de fumer. = I gave up smoking.
On a continué à se voir. =We went on seeing each other.

En français, AVANT DE … et APRES sont suivis de l’infinitif

ex : avant d ALLER au lit - après AVOIR mangé
En anglais, BEFORE et AFTER sont suivis du GERONDIF –terminaison ING.

Avant de partir = before leaving

Après avoir fini le repas = after finishing lunch

Si tu es fort en grammaire, la règle la plus simple, c’est qu’en
anglais, toutes les PREPOSITIONS sont suivies du GERONDIF.

OF instead of working
IN I’m interested in reading.
AT He’s good at drawing.
BEFORE before having lunch.
AFTER after running.
WITHOUT without thinking
FOR these boots are made for walking
WITH I’m fed up with waiting.

 Ne pas confondre avec le PRESENT BE+ING
En anglais , il existe le PRESENT BE+ING, le PRETERIT BE+ ING.
Ce sont des TEMPS conjugués avec l’auxilaire BE + un verbe
terminé par ING. Mais ce n’est pas un gérondif.
