CREATIVE WRITING
Detailed Lesson Plan

CONTENT STANDARD
The learners have understanding of imagery, diction, figures of speech and
other variations on language.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner shall be able to produce short paragraphs or vignettes using
imagery, diction, figures of speech and specific experiences.

LEARNING COMPETENCY
Write a short poem applying the various elements, techniques and other
literary device. (HUMSS_CW/MP11/12c-f-10)

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. identify poems and verses with enjambments;
2. analyze the technique used in enjambments; and
3. produce a short, well-crafted poem with enjambments.

III. PROCEDURE:
A. ACTIVITY (LET’S GET LOUD)
The class reads the poem by T.S. Eliot entitled “The Waste Land”
1 April is the cruellest month, breeding
2 Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
3 Memory and desire, stirring
4 Dull roots with spring rain.
5 Winter kept us warm, covering
6 Earth in forgetful snow, feeding
7 A little life with dried tubers

B. ANALYSIS

1. Looking at the first and second lines, how should they be read considering
proper phrasing of ideas?
2. Observe the endings and beginnings of each line. How does each line end
and start?
3. What do you think is the unique way
the author used in writing the poem?
4. Does anyone here know what literary technique is used by the author?

C. ABSTRACTION

Enjambment
 Words or phrases are cut.
 Readers’ eye are forced to read the next line.
 There is a sense of urgency to finish and properly
continue and complete the idea of the text
D. APPLICATION
STOP AND GO

• Using your meta cards, identify which text use enjambments.


• Raise your GREEN meta card if it contains enjambments and RED meta card
if otherwise.

Directions:
• Each group shall be provided with an envelope that contains a photo.
• Each group shall use their assigned photo as the topic in writing a poem with
enjambments. (20 minutes)
WATCH-CRAFT!

Directions:
A video will be shown. Afterwards, each group shall single out a line from the
video that strikes them the most. They will write a well-crafted poem using
enjambments.

ASSESSMENT:

ASSIGNMENT

Write a quatrain using enjambments as a response to the outcry of humanity


in the present time.
