ABORTION
Introduction
Abortion reigns as one of the most hotly debated issues in our society. Like all human
problems, it must be described in meticulous details if a solution is to be established. Abortion
is emphatically undesirable in a human society that has a developed moral sense. It is nothing
for our society to feel proud of nor it is a sign of progress yet preventing it should be a shared
task that rises above the debates on the morality of abortion.

What is ABORTION?
It means the expulsion of a living fetus from the mother’s womb before it is viable “in
medical parlance” according to Dr. Andre E. Hellegers, “abortion is defined as the termination
of pregnancy, spontaneously or by induction, prior to viability. Thereafter, termination of
pregnancy is called delivery.

Types of Abortion
 Natural abortion
-The expulsion of the fetus through natural or accidental causes.
 Direct or Intentional abortion-
-Deliberately induce expulsion of a living fetus before it has become viable.
 Therapeutic abortion
-The deliberately induced expulsion of a living fetus in order to save the mother
from the danger of death brought by pregnancy.
 Eugenic abortion
-Done is a cause where certain defects are discovered in the developing fetus.
 Indirect abortion
-Remove of the fetus occurs as a secondary effect of a legitimate or licit action,
which is the direct and primary object of the intention.

The advantages of ABORTION are.

It safeguards the mother from a pregnancy that would threaten her life. It protects the
reputation of the woman in causes of pregnancy due to rape and incest. Women’s decision
should be respected. The pro- choice position helps provide an adaptation to a world which no
longer needs nor can afford unlimited childbearing. It alleviates economics, sociological or
demographic problems. It anticipates the social costs involved in the case, support and
education of a severely handicapped individual during his/her lifetime. It checks overpopulation
and reduces unwanted pregnancies.

The disadvantages of ABORTION are.

Abortion destroy life and violates right of life. As such it is morally evil and it should not be in
any way legalized and liberally permitted in laws and constitution. The Church regards it as a mortal sin.

Moral Lesson
Human life is scared and so it must be respected and protected absolutely from the
moment of conception. From the first moment of his/her existence a human being must be
recognized as having the right of a person among which is the inviolable right of every innocent
being to life. This inalienable right must be recognized and respected by civil society political
authority.

Conclusion
Human life is scared because from the beginning it involved the creative action of God
and it remains forever in a special relationship with Creator. So when we encounter human life
either in ourselves or in others we meet something filled with majesty and dignity; something
which call forth a fitting response from us. We way saying g “Yes “to human life in all its forms,.
Such a response of “Yes” to life is an echo of the “Yes “which God makes to human life.
