Calibration of Pepperl±Fuchs UB4000-F42-U-V15

1. Set parameter for output signal and beaming width.

2. Calibration of range.
3. Set parameters in the computer system.
4. Set parameters in an instrument.

Before calibrating the sensor, make sure it is unplugged.

1. Set parameter for output signal

To get into the menu for setting these parameters, hold A1-button while plugging in the
sensor. You are then inside the menu where you can change from 3 different operating
modes. Push A2-button to change between modes and A1-button to save and move to the
next parameter.

Set parameter for beaming width.

You change in the same matter as width previous parameter.

When you are finished with setting these parameters and you can click and hold A1-button in
2 seconds to save and quit the parameter-menus.

2. Calibrating range. A1 and A2.

To calibrate A1-range, hold A1-button for 2 seconds after the cable has been plugged in. The
sensor has a function where it will blink in different colours out of what it is capable to
read/measure in calibration-mode.
If the sensor blinks yellow, it means that it reads the object and you can simply push A1 to
save this range.
If the sensor blinks red, it means that it does not manage to measure the object and you
would have to straight up the object or find another object to measure from.
The same procedure is needed to calibrate the A2-range, but in this case only use the A2-
button.
PS: You have only 5 minutes to calibrate the sensor after you have plugged in the cable.
The maximum range needs to be calibrated above 1450mm to make sure it can read the
maximum height of the foam. A1 and A2 range are basically two reading points. One of them
are maximum and one is minimum, to set these ranges it is not needed to determine which is
what.

When you are finished to set the parameters and calibrated the sensor you can continue to
step 3 or 4, depending on which system you are using.

3. Set parameters in the computer system.

If the conveyor is empty and the DV value is showing 4095, this means that the sensor is
giving maximum value (10v) from the sensor and is the zero-point and the minimum value
(0v) is the maximum point of reading (40~50DV).

Do the following:
Make sure the conveyor is empty and no objects are inside the reading beam. Put in the
«Analog In» value (DV) which the PLC-program is reading, under Test Minimum -X1: ANA. IN.
Then put in 0mm in Y1:INDICATION. Set an object under the sensor which is approximately or
higher than 1200mm and put in the currently reading «Analog In» value (DV) into Test
Maximum – X2: ANA. IN and write in the height on the object(s) into Y2: INDICATION.

Change Maximum Pos. In between 1400 and 1450mm and put in a tolerance between 10 and
50mm. These values are for giving warnings if the foam is above or under the range you are
trying to produce and above the maximum height of production.

4. Set parameters in an Instrument.

To put in parameters in an Instrument can variate between the different instruments
available to use. The sensor has only one possible output value, 0 – 10v.
0v is the smallest value from the sensor and 10v is the highest. If you have the highest value
when it reads directly onto the conveyor, you would have to put in this value at the Min.
Input parameter and the smallest value reading from the sensor to the Max. Input
parameter.

Example:
Value directly from sensor: 7.85 volts = Real measurement on the conveyor 0mm
Value directly from sensor: 1,23 volts = Real measurement on the conveyor 1375mm
7,85 volts = 0mm = Min. Input values on instrument (Lo.D/Lo/Lo.E)
1,23 volts = 1375mm = Max. Input values on instrument (Hi.D/Hi/Hi.E)

You would obviously have to do the opposite if you have the smallest value from the sensor
when it reads directly onto the conveyor.

In relations to setting the parameter in a digital instrument you would have to follow the
instructions and manual for these.
