1 Scope
This Standard regulates the technical content of the planning release (P-release).
The general requirements for the performance of component development contracts are set forth in
Volkswagen Standard VW 99000.
Verify that you have the latest issue of the Standard before relying on it.
This electronically generated Standard is authentic and valid without signature. Page 1 of 3
The English translation is believed to be accurate. In case of discrepancies, the German version is alone authoritative and controlling.
Numerical notation acc. to ISO convention.
2 Definitions
The following definitions are used for the application of this Standard:

3 Planning release
Upon issuance of the planning release, the planning, tool layout work, engineering work, and com‐
putation work must be initiated up to the preparation of a workshop-ready production equipment
drawing.
The design work is to be performed on the basis of the preliminary draft designs and the 3D CAD
surface data. The objective of the design work is to develop in detail each individual element of the
component in question.
A planning release pertains to a specific component or a specific assembly and a specific intended
use, and is based on a target date arrived at by subtracting the time required for design and pro‐
curement from the stock-in-plant date (TBT).
Planning release cannot be issued until the following prerequisites have been met:
– 3-D surface model or volume model rounded in accordance with the order
– Complete layout drawings (ASSY drawings, if applicable) and skeleton plans
– State-of-the-art virtual testing in accordance with the order and based on the 3-D surface or
volume models
– Complete bills of materials
– Data for part model (self-manufactured parts and vendor parts), fully checked and with the re‐
quired documentation, e.g. drawing with information on RPS, weld spots, tolerances, functional
dimensions etc., as well as SKD sheets
– Implementation of the SKD sheets in the design status
– Product FMEA (system, design) prepared and agreed with the purchaser, and all production-
relevant product characteristics defined and agreed with the purchaser.
– Groundwork laid for a testing concept for critical scopes
– Creation of the documents for the spare parts program
– Consideration of variants and optional equipment, specification of process technology and man‐
ufacturing concepts by the FT/SE team
– Weight specification
– Statistical tolerance analysis according to VW 01057, documented according to the rules for
tolerance analysis (see B2B supplier platform under the caption F&E services > tolerance anal‐
ysis)

To qualify for release, the released design data must contain the following:
– Installed position in coordinate system with all relevant connecting parts
– Number of sections sufficient for model construction
– First specification of functional dimensions with tolerances
– Draft angles
– Joining elements
– Processing direction
– Specification of materials
– Test specifications
