Children Receiving Specific Focus Today: 1. Miguel-Art 2. Cora-Small Focus 3. Raleigh-Manipulatives 4. Drake-Outdoor 5. Griffin-Small Focus
Preassessment and Findings: The children in our lab have shown a lot of interest in movement and it has been fun to see them exploring how different parts of their bodies work. The main question that I asked the children while doing my preassessment was, “how does your body move?” or “what is inside of you that helps you move?” I received many answers from the children. Raleigh told me that our bones are what help us move. After really prying, Skylar told me that your bones and muscles help you to move. Paisley gave me and interesting answer and told me that bones and your blood are what help you to move around. Peter’s answer was great and he told me that our skeletons are what moves us. I had a great conversation with Drake and he told me that your bones are what help you move, and your bones all connect together, and that is what makes your skeleton. There were several answers that I got that told me that the children aren’t exactly sure how our bodies move. Griffin told me that food is what helps us to move. Hunter reported that he gets better and better every day and that is what helps him to move his body. When I asked Hawkins, he just told me that he didn’t know what made his body move. My gathering time will be focused on teaching the children that there are muscles in our body, and that is what helps us move. I will also teach them that joints are where our bodies bend and how we move our arms and legs. Our developmental focus will be gross motor skills so that the children can work on balance and learn how to use their bodies to move.
Ideas to be Emphasized and Overall Developmental Focus: 1. Our muscles and bones help us move our bodies. 2. We have joints that help our bones and our muscles do things every day. 3. Today’s developmental focus will be gross motor skills.
