Learning purpose: To begin writing their introductions using effective persuasive techniques and the
research they have on their chosen social issue.
Introduction:
In and reading for 15 minutes. Ask the class to take out their booklets and have them
17 mins
on their desks for me to check while they are reading.
CHECK HOMEWORK- students were asked to complete the planning page of their
assessment book. Go around during silent reading time.
15 mins
Begin writing the introductions for their speech using the beginnings of their planning
from last lesson.
- Think of effective persuasive techniques to use in an introduction.
- Those who finish early can begin looking at body paragraphs. Write the topic
sentence and dot point their responses for the next lesson.
Lesson conclusion:
5-10 mins
Select some students to read out their introductions.
Lesson Evaluation:
As expected, most students didn’t complete their research at home, however, we moved on with
introductions. They were relatively engaged with their work, and for the most part, with an exception or two
who I moved. It was a good lesson with a balance of talking and written work. Most students have developed
some semblance of an introduction. There was some confusion about what a thesis statement was, so I
clarified it, along with my mentor to ensure their understanding and then at the end of the lesson, I reiterated
them with the class. Students read out their introductions, or what they had produced, and were asked to
