Home Economics – Cookery

I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
1. Identify the materials of kitchen utensils and tools commonly found in the kitchen.
2. Value the uses and importance of the kitchen utensils.
3. Demonstrate the proper use of kitchen utensils.

II. Subject Matter:

Content Standards: The learners demonstrate an understanding the use and

maintenance of equipment in cookery.
Performance Standards: The learners independently use and maintain tools,
equipment, and
materials in cookery according to standard operating

Materials: Slide Deck Presentation, multimedia equipment, manila
paper, scotch tape, pentel pen

III. Procedure:

A. Classroom Routine
1. Opening prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance

B. Motivation
Are you familiar with the different materials of kitchen utensils commonly found in the
kitchen? Show a picture of kitchen tools. Ask: What can you say about the pictures?
C. Presentation

On your notebook list down all the utensils you can find in your kitchen. Identify the
materials of your kitchen tools. Follow format below.



After 5 minutes, group the class into 4. Each group will get a task card from the teacher
which contain questions pertaining to the materials of kitchen utensils and equipment commonly
found in the kitchen.

Group 1 Aluminum and Stainless Steel

Group2 Glass and Cast Iron
Group 3 Ceramic and heat proof glass and Teflon
Group 4 Plastic and Hard rubber

The four groups are tasked to answer the following questions:
1. Identify the different materials of kitchen utensils? 
2. Can you give the definitions of those materials?
3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of each material of kitchen

1. What have you learned?
2. For you as a student how is it important to know the Different materials of kitchen
utensils and tools in your daily life?
3. If you were given a chance to create a new tools and equipment what would it be?
How will people use it?
The class will be divided into 3 groups. Each group will prepare a short skit demonstrate
the proper use of kitchen utensils for 3 minutes.

IV. Assessment:
On the third column draw a star if the statement/s in column A match with column B and if not
write the correct word/s that best describe the statement/s .

1. It is the most popular material used for
tools and equipment, but is more Aluminum
2. It is a greatly durable and cheap material
of kitchen utensils but may not last long. Glass
3. It is a special coating applied inside
aluminum or steel pots and pans and Teflon
prevents food from sticking to the pan.
4. Good for baking but not practical on top Plastic and hard rubber
or surface cooking. Great care is needed to
make sure for long shelf life.
5. It is sturdy but must be kept seasoned to Cast iron
avoid rust.

V. Assignment:
1. Research additional kitchen utensils that commonly found in the kitchen.
2. Bring at least 10 pictures of different equipment found in the kitchen.
