EXPERIMENT NO. 1
1.0 Title:
To know and understand the Electrical Machine Laboratory.
2.0 Prior Concepts:
• The curriculum of the subject.
• Basic fundamentals of Electrical Engineering.
3.0 New Concepts:
Proposition 1: Laboratory Experiment
Laboratory Experiments are expected to develop intellectual skills, motor skills, positive attitude in
the students and make them apply the theoretical concept of the subject on the laboratory floor.
Concept Structure :

Proposition 2: Logical thinking

It is developed in students through systems approach, content analysis and sequential planning
of laboratory work.
Concept Structure :

Proposition 3: Electrical Machine Laboratory

It is the laboratory, which has different Machines, equipments / instruments and other
accessories with the help of which the concepts and principles learned in theory can be verified.

7.0 Stepwise Procedure:

• Observe and prepare a list of machines / apparatus in the laboratory.
• Classify the machines and apparatus.
• Observe the machines of different categories under the guidance of teacher and note down the
detailed specifications in the observation table.

Laboratory Instructions/ Precautions:

• Do not touch the live terminals.
• Understand the equipment to be used from the users point of view before working with the
equipment.
• Do not use wires with poor insulation.
• Get the connection checked by your teacher/ instructor and switch ON the supply only after
his / her approval.
• Never exceed the permissible values of current, voltage, speed or any other equipment.
• Switch OFF the main switch on the table after the experiment is over.
• In case of short circuit or overload which may cause fire switch OFF the main supply.
• Do not throw water on live electrical equipment in case of fire, it is dangerous.
• All portable apparatus should be switched OFF before moving to other position.
