PROJECT FIVE

Nord Vest Company

Stage One.
DESIGN OPPORTUNITY.
A | What is your idea?
My idea is to create a townhome that would be 100% sustainable, and a branch of the Nord Vest Company.
B | What learning outcomes do you expect to achieve?
Some learning outcomes I expect to learn is how to make 3D modelling more detailed and learn the program a bit more. I want to create an investors
booklet showcasing my model.
C | Why is it important to you?
I want to expand my skills to other programs, like google sketchup. This project is important because I want to put it into my Architecture Portfolio to
allow my designs to be seen by architecture schools.
D | What is your part in the idea?
My part in the idea would be to create a 100% sustainable shipping container row home and then use that to create an investor booklet so the
product could be launched and talked about.
Stage One.
IDENTIFY POTENTIAL USERS.
A | Who would use your idea or who is your project intended for?
The idea will allow people to order row homes targeted towards developers. This project will allow for affordable homes to come into expensive real
estate markets.

B | What is it intended to do? What’s the purpose?

The purpose of my project is to create a shipping container home, the purpose being to create a sustainable/affordable home for an everyday
consumer.

C | What are some possible negative consequences of your idea? Who could possibly be affected by this negatively?
Some possible negative consequences about the idea is that some people may not like the design of the product, or doesn’t like the shipping
container.

D | How will competing social, ethical, and sustainability considerations impact your idea?
This company is based on sustainability, therefore, the homes would be zero waste. Social aspect is that some people would love them, and
hopefully tell their friends about it, Ethically, I see nothing wrong, this is a business, therefore, making money is a big goal.
Stage One.
PREMISES AND BOUNDARIES.
A | What will you need to carry out your idea?
Some things that I will need to carry my idea is photoshop, google sketch up, sketch up renders, and illustrator, oh and pdf!

B | What boundaries could prevent you from succeeding in creating your idea?
Some boundaries that could prevent me from succeeding in creating the idea is that I may not finish the project or not getting the design right and
spend hours on something small.

C | What is your plan to overcome these obstacles?

My plan is to compromise and go with the flow and not to change things.
Stage One.

RISKS.
A | How are you taking a creative risk? How does this project make you a better digital artist or graphic designer?
I’m taking a creative risk, because no one has ever thought to make a shipping container row home that helps people in many ways. When it comes
to the booklet, I’m taking a risk because it’s not a conventional booklet.
PLAN.
A | What programs do you intend to use?
I intend to use Photoshop, Google Sketch Up, and Illustrator.

B | What exercises/new skills/prototyping will you do to prepare for your final piece?
I will try out google sketch, and learn on the go, since this works better for me.
Stage Two.

PROTOTYPING & TESTING.

When it came to prototyping this project, I decided to
jump right in since I find prototyping not that useful. I
tested my product by showcasing many people who
gave helpful feedback for the product. Overall, many
people were quite impressed with this product and
the booklet.
Stage Three.
EVALUATING & DEVELOPING.
My peer that helped me on this project was actually my friend in Alberta. She is a huge advocate for sustainable anything, so I showcased her this
product. She told me she liked it, but wanted me to research where the materials would come from, and told me to maybe add more colour options
would take place in this project.

Stage Three.
TECHNICAL REFLECTION.

1 | Discuss your strengths and challenges of this piece.

When it came to this project, I would say that my challenge was learning google sketchup, and bit more of photoshop. With me having photoshop,
it’s completely different in a way since it’s the 2019 model of it. Another challenge was compromising my ideas, since I really did like them. My
strength was coming up with designs for the project.

2 | What worked? What do you like? What was your favourite part?
This project in a worked out really well. I loved the process of creating the product and then putting it into a booklet. It was a huge
accomplishment and I love the design I did for it. My favourite part was seeing it all come together.

3 | What would you do differently next time? What do you wish you could change?
Next time, I wouldn’t change anything. I was quite happy with the end results. I think I would make the book even bigger with more information
when it comes to actually producing this product.
Stage Three.
TECHNICAL REFLECTION.

4 | Did in fact meet all goals in your timeline?

Yes, I worked on this project over Spring Break, and completed it quite fast. This written part I procrastinate till now to work on it.

5 | Did you achieve all learning outcomes of your project? If not, why?
Yes I did achieve everything for this project because it turned out really well at the end.
6 | What will you improve on for your next project?
For my next project, I really want to create a bigger booklet and also get my written done as fast as possible!
