CORRUPTION PHENOMENON IN INDONESIA

At present, corruption has become common thing in Indonesia. A kind of culture,

corruption has been inherent in various aspects of life. Along with the development of
the times, the culture of corruption is increasing both in quantity and quality.
Quantitatively, it is proven by the large number of corruption cases from various
groups, in both of the lower middle class and the professional class. As for quality, it
has been recorded in history, it is seen that changes in the corruption system are
increasingly modern, to arrive at unexpected ways by the Indonesian people.

Literally, the word corruption comes from Latin, '' corruptio '' or '' corruptus '' which
means; damaging, dishonest, can be bribed. In other words, the act of corruption was
expressly rejected in its existence in human civilization. As godly beings, we should be
able to avoid actions that harm the life of many people.

But back again to our role as economic beings. Sometimes the parameters of fulfilling
our needs for life are very far-reaching. Never felt enough about our needs. Forgetting
our limitations. Perhaps that is the reason why corruptors act corruption.

‘'Corruption is like an infectious disease that spreads slowly but deadly, creating
extensive damage in the community. Corruption undermines democracy and the rule of
law, encourages violations of human rights, distorts the economy, decreases the quality
of life and enables criminal organizations, terrorism and various threats to security to
develop '(Kofi A Annan, former UN Secretary General)

The national goals of the Indonesian people are contained in the Preamble of the 1945
Constitution paragraph 4, namely: 1) protecting the entire Indonesian nation; 2)
promoting public welfare; 3) educate the life of the nation; and 4) participate in carrying
out world order based on lasting peace and social justice. Given the massive impact of
corruption on the life of the state and society, so long as corruption is still rampant, it is
impossible that national goals will be achieved.

Many anti-corruption campaigns have been promoted as an effort to reduce the number
of corruption in this country. However, this will not be meaningful if we ourselves do

not have a strong intention to avoid bad habits that can lead to criminal acts of
corruption. Plus the presence of destructive relationships

Corruption is a national latent danger. One characteristic of developed countries is that

the level of corruption tends to be low. This is different from developing countries,
which do not have a good institutional system so that the level of corruption is usually
relatively high compared to developed countries. Corruption destroys the joint state,
government and society.
